Narrative Analysis

Burning is the common practice of eliminating solid wastes because of absence of public
trash cans, compost pit, and without proper of throwing garbage this may result that waste might
scattered in the surroundings. In the Brgy. Bacongbacong all of the houses burn their trashes.
Burning will totally eliminate the trashes, but burning solid wastes especially plastics & rubbers
contributes a great damage in the environment. That is why we are experiencing frequent
flooding. Going back a decade ago there is great production of water melon and palay in the
barangay. The barangay is popular with the watermelon. Every summer there are many
watermelon stand beside the road. Almost 20 watermelon fruit stand are there. The quality of
watermelon is good because the sweetness is there also the pure red is present. There is a big
difference in the production of watermelon today. The number of retailer is reduced, the taste of
sweetness is not good, and also the number of watermelon to be harvest is decreased. The flood
in the rice field damages the crops. Other reason why there is a frequent flooding is because of
cutting the trees that contributes erosion of soil when there is a heavy rain. The eroded soil is
going down on the lower part of the houses which also damages some crops.
The area and location of school is one of the reason why there is a pending in
construction of elementary school in the barangay. The location is in Ilaya which is far from the
national road. The area of school is small were four classrooms can be built. The school is also
beside the mountain where that mountain is no trees to hold the soil because of kaingin. This will
make some risks to the students and residents near there the soil may erode.
Pending the construction of elementary school in the barangay can also increase the no.
of school youth, at the early age. They must go to the other barangay to study but what if they
dont avail the daily expenses for the schooling because of the decreases of the production of
crops this will also tends to stop some youths to study.
The increase in number of school youth in the barangay is alarming the effect of
stopping in entering the school will be the lack of knowledge in academic and skills that makes
some people hopeless. Some residents are contented on walking, chatting, playing and hanging
out with their friends they cannot find a worthy job. The out of school youth have no permanent
work. Some is contented to a job which can sustain their 3 times of meal a day. The common job
of the residents are fishing and farming some owned a sari-sari store for their daily lives need.
Due to the lack of knowledge and no permanent work. Some resident are encourage for
gambling. Those who dont have a permanent work they take some risk to test their luck in
gambling. One thing I observe in our barangay is even though that some of the residents dont
have a job, still they have a time for gambling and one thing I observed they make gambling as a
job.
Through this gambling many bad effects are we can get which malnourish, conflicts
with neighbors and problems in the family. In our barangay, children are like a street children
because of their look. They play and play while their mother/father is gambling. Some children
are malnourish because they prioritize the money than their children, even if they want 1 peso.
They think that it was a bad luck if a child will have some coins to them. Conflicts with
neighbors, some gambling are noisy that can be irritating to the neighbor. Some conflicts occur
when there is an unagreement between the two that sometimes turn into a fight. Like physical
contact and verbal. Problems in the family, gambling makes the family unbond, instead of taking
care the house, making preparation for food for the family, guiding the children to their problems
and assignments and etc. in short, instead of family first it becomes money first to those who are
gambling. Sometimes if they lost they put their anger in their children or in their husband/ wife.
Malnourish, having a conflicts with neighbors and problems in family can slow the
improvement of barangay. It is ugly to see that in a barangay most of the residents are
malnourish. They cannot be productive. Conflicts with neighbors how we can gain the
improvement if there is a bad contact with each neighbor. There must be a good neighbor. Last is
the family it all start in the home if there are a good relationship between the families there will
be a good out come in the barangay.
Aside from the slow improvement effect of being malnourish there will be a great
demand of health care. Problems in family will also cause conflicts with their member. This will
lead to some juvenile deliquent.
