visited Abi Samra site located in Tripoli- Lebanon, to check the safety of an existing site.
Site surveillance
First of all we should mention that the site is
ancient back to 1993 more or less.
The site is formed from a shelter where Mtc
equipments are installed, the shelter is supported on a steel structure that is connected to the structural system of the building body at the roof top, and some Antennas that are fixed directly to roof without any concrete foundation.
Apparently at the top of the roof a number of water
tanks and solar system is installed recently.
Also, we should mention that generators are located at
the ground floor level. Reason of the visit
Mainly, we visited the site because some
complains from the residents in the building, from the generator vibration, and some water leakage.
Overview of the site and solutions
Once we arrived to the building, we have seen
the following :
1- the building didn't get any maintenance since ever
2-the building is full of cracks all over its faade
specially on the balconies caused by the sea wind (steel rust)
3-the roof is subjected to water leakage
4-the equipments of MTC also didnt get any
maintenance where the neoprene pads seems to be very old.
5-Some equipments are installed directly and
randomly on the roof
Solutions
1-the faade should be treated against corrosion with
anti-rust materials. 2-the protection of the roof with water-proofing materials to avoid leakage.
3-the neoprene pads should be replaced by new ones
to avoid the transmission of the vibration.
4-remove the equipments of MTC that are installed
randomly, and place it on concrete foundation supported by existing columns or walls
Finally, we should mention that the structure of
the building not threatened ,and no matter of insecurity appears to be, since the equipments loads are subjected directly to the vertical concrete members, and they are not supported directly on the roof top. Ground level of the building Faade of building Water tanks Mtc Equipments need new neoprene pads Equipments installed Randomly The building needs maintenance
