Act Two, Scene One Tyler Schubert

This scene starts with Mr. Brown, The Reverend of the church, getting ready for a prayer

meeting. While getting ready, the people participating in the prayer meeting had decided to keep

the banner up, which Drummond had said to have taken down. Then, Mr. Brown starts the

meeting on time. The crowd, all cheering along with Mr. Browns rant, start singing along while

Rachel, remains at the fringes of the crowd. Mr. Brown points towards the jail, where Bert Cates

is currently being held. Next, Mr. Brown says Do we curse the man who denies the word?

(Lawrence and Lee 53). The crowd replies, while raising their voices, They all get super rallied

up. They all agree to cast out Bert Cates, so Rachel rushes in front to stop her father from

damming him. Because she had tried to stop him, Mr. Brown dammed her as well. The people

who had come to the meeting were then, dismissed.
