DEFORSTATION: CAUSES AND PREVENTION

Introduction
The relation of man and environment is a old as man himself. Today there is a
ground water than ever concern for increasing for promoting qualities of earth and
its environment. Environmental degradation, depletion of natural resources,
deforestation. Disturbances in the ozone layer, uncertainly and change in climate
have caused serious pollution and proving risk for man and animals. Consciousness
about environment is a crucial factor for all the people illiterate or educated.
Natural resources are limited and these need to be used sparingly. Deforestation is
a major environmental concern these days as these are of vital importance for the
existence of human race.

Deforestation is the result of an imbalance between natural resource and the need
of the population. It is a major environmental concern as forest as of vital
importance for the existence of human race. Human cannot survive without them.

Methodology
Methodology refers to the way of the study has to be conducted. It deals with the
precise description of methods adopted for the study.

The method adopted for this study is survey method. It is difficult to get first hand
information so I collect relevant data from internet and other sources like books,
journals etc.

Results
Officially, India has an area of around 637293 sq km, notified as forest which is
19.39 percent of the total geographical area. Indian forest are thick and dense;
forest vegetation also considerable differs. According to the forest survey of India
1991, dense forest cover for the country as a whole is merely 11.71 percent. About
4 percent of Indias land area is protected under the bill of national park and wild
life sanctuaries.
Discussion
Merely 19.47 percent of the area is under forest cover and that to has been
exploited for a number of reasons. The Indian institute of forest management has
estimated that wood smuggler steal over 235 million cubic meters fuel wood from
forest every year. The exact figure may be higher.

Due to massive chopping down of trees for fuel, rampant forest fire cleaning the
forest for mining and industrial activities, forest land have shrub alarming and are
posing a great threat to environment. So there is an urgent need to protect the
forests.

Conclusion
Despite the importance of forest for human race, the area under forest cover is
decreasing at an alarming rate. Excessive felling of trees for timber, overgrazing,
drought, storms and clearance of forest for land and cultivation purpose, forest fire
etc .are causing damage to forests.

To save the nation and our future generation from the effect of deforestation, it is
essential to educate students and make them conscious of the devastating impact
of deforestation. They should have the knowledge, skills, attitude, motivations and
commitment to work individually and collectively towards solution to
environmental problems and prevention of new ones.
