Introduction
I am doing this project because it is a form of learning how to use the
scientific method to make an experiment and we chose the one of
comparing by way of investigation the abilities of different indigestion
remedies to neutralise excess stomach acid. Pedro and I thought that was a
good idea to perform this concrete experiment because we could see an
obvious change in the process to realize if we were doing it well or bad.
To star with the project, we have looked at remedies in Internet remedies
that can neutralize the excess of stomach acid. Weve found four of them:
milk of magnesia, camomile, baking soda and Bisodol. We havent found one
of the products so instead of milk of magnesia we are just going to use
normal milk.
My hypothesis in this project is that if we put the same amount of acid in
four petri dishes and we put one remedy in each one until the acid is
neutralised the Bisodol is going to work better than any other because is the
only one that is a real medicine.

Control and Variables

The independent variable are the different remedies that used to
neutralize the acid.
The dependent variable are the millilitres of the remedies that we
used for each mixture.
The controls are the amount of acid in each mixture, the temperature
that we had when we did it, the light that we had inside the classroom
the day of the experiment and the time we had to see if it worked.
Safety
We worked with acid so we needed googles and gloves to get the recipients
that contained that product. I also used a coat to keep save my clothes and
we had to treat the acid very carefully. That acid is very dangerous because
your skin and whatever it touches in your body can be burned.

List of Equipment
Remedies & Acid: camomile, Bisodol, milk, baking soda and
hydrochloric acid.
Laboratorys tools: pipette, cardboard glass, beaker, conical flask,
tweezers, petri dish and PH testing paper.
Annotating tools: pen, notebook, mobile phone.

Procedure
First we started getting all the equipment to make the experiment. Later we
heated water to put the camomile and we put the camomile in 100ml of
water. Then we put in a beaker 100ml of milk and we started mixing them in
the acid when the water mixed with the camomile had a strong yellow tone.
When we started we put 1ml of acid and a PH testing paper in a petri dish
and later we add 10ml of milk millilitre per millilitre but it didnt work, the
same thing happened with the camomile. After this class the results werent
good at all.
In the second class we tried to do the same but with baking soda and
Bisodol and although it worked we saw that we didnt put enough of each
because it worked very late and in the prospect said that we had to put
more Bisodol pills and baking soda spoons.
In the third class we tried the experiment again with baking soda and with
Bisodol but with the correct amount of each, so we mixed 1ml of acid with
6ml of baking soda and in another petri dish with 7ml of Bisodol. Both
remedies were drop millilitre by millilitre until the PH testing paper became
blue.
1. Get the following equipment: camomile, Bisodol, milk, baking soda,
hydrochloric acid, pipette, cardboard glass, beaker, conical flask,
tweezers, petri dish and PH testing paper.
2. Heat water and mix 100mls of water with the camomile in a beaker or
conical flask. Then put in 3 different recipients 3 spoons of baking
soda mixed with 100mls of water, 100mls of milk and 6 pills of Bisodol
mixed with 100mls of water.
3. Get 4 petri dishes and put 1 ml of acid and a PH testing paper in
each.
4. When the PH testing paper has a shine red colour put one remedy ml
by ml in the petri dish until it turns blue. If it doesnt turn blue stop
when 10mls of remedy are drop in the petri dish.
5. Annotate every step and the millilitres of each product in each
mixture.

Result
Remedy Acid Result
Milk 10mls 1ml Doesnt work
Camomile 10mls 1ml Doesnt work
Baking Soda 6mls 1ml Works
Bisodol 7mls 1ml Works

Conclusion
The remedies that neutralized the acid were the Bisodol and the bread soda
because they work well as bases and the camomile and the milk dont.
I thought at first that the Bisodol was going to be the better remedy to
neutralize the stomach acid because it was the only remedy that was a
medicine but the baking soda is better.

Discussion
The things that I would change of my project are:

The amount of Bisodol pills because in the real life you wouldnt have
6 pills of Bisodol if you feel bad, you would have only 4 pills.
The limit of remedy millilitres because maybe if we continued putting
camomile and milk it would work.
