BEYOND-THE-BASIC PRODUCTIVITY TOOLS

Name: Brooke Morgan

Grade Level: 6th

Content Area: Mathematics

Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tool Used: http://timeglider.com/ Timeline

Standards Addressed: MGSE6.NS.5 Understand that positive and negative

numbers are used together to describe quantities having opposite directions or
values (e.g., temperature above/below zero, elevation above/below sea level,
debits/credits, positive/negative electric charge); use positive and negative numbers
to represent quantities in real-world contexts, explaining the meaning of 0 in each
situation.

Blooms Level of Critical Thinking:

*Remembering *Understanding *Applying *Analyzing
*Evaluating *Creating

Description of how to implement in the class: Students will be creating number

lines to understand how negative and positive numbers are values that go in opposite
directions. A timeline is a great way to represent this information by plotting negative
and positive numbers. After the lesson is taught that negative numbers are below
zero and go to the left and positive numbers are greater than zero and go to the right
on a number line I will let students have the opportunity to make their own number
lines. This visual representation can help students vividly see how negative and
positive numbers work. This concept is one of the most important in mathematics
because students will be implementing their understanding of how negative and
positive numbers work throughout the rest of their schooling when taking math.

Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): Levels 3 and 4 are being used which
are infusion and integration. Students start off on the infusion level because the
lesson is teacher centered, but the students are using higher order thinking skills
such as application, analysis, synthesis, and evaluation. By the end of the lesson
students will be on level 4 of integration. At this point students will be working on
their own timelines using different numbers. The teaching is becoming student
centered and students can apply the information about their timelines to real world
situations.

Description of the sample BBPT file provided *: Students will see an example
timeline that will have values less than and greater than zero. This file will allow
students to visually see how negative and positive numbers work. Students will see
an example timeline then they will be given negative and positive numbers that they
must plot on a number line in the correct order.
