CHURCH OF THE FOUR CORNERS

This book belongs to:

When we first launched Church of the Four Corners on September 8th, 2013, we had no
idea the journey that God had placed before us. In just a few short years, we have seen
God do tremendous things through the work of this church. There have been hundreds
saved, countless baptisms, marriages restored, lives changed, and hope renewed.

As your pastor, I am grateful for the opportunity to be involved in such a life-giving, unique,
and sacrificial community of people. As much as we celebrate the stories of the past, our
hearts are filled with anticipation as we begin to dream for the future.

For the next three years, we are entering into an initiative we

are calling Build This House. As a church, we are drawing a line in
the sand and refusing to live with offensively small faith. We are
believing by faith that God is going to Build This House in our
Hearts, Community, City and our World!

My challenge is for us to prayerfully consider how God might call us to participate in

doing our part to see God Build This House! Psalm 127:1 tells us, Unless God builds
the house, the builders labor in vain. I believe that the next three years will serve as one
of the greatest spiritual seasons of our church as people rise up to the challenge to live
with audacious faith!

I pray you would join us as we take next steps

together to see God Build This House!

Craig Kackley, Lead Pastor

HISTORY
God planted Church of the Four Corners in an Independence living room, in March
of 2013. A group of friends found themselves overwhelmed with the burden of
reaching those who have given up on the idea of church. They began to dream
together what supernatural acts God could accomplish through their sacrificial
obedience. God continues to do the unthinkable through the work of COTFC.

BUILD THIS HOUSE
EXPLAINED
Goal $2.2 Million // Three Years
Build This House is a three-year effort to boldly fund the four initiatives to which God
has called Church of the Four Corners. We will be utilizing a one-fund approach that
resources all ministry, because everything we do in ministry matters. The Build This
House generosity goal is the projected budget for everything we are currently doing
plus what we need to be doing over the next three years.

Build This House is our opportunity to put supernatural faith into action by giving to
one fund that will accelerate our current ministries, solidify a permanent home, and
fund both a domestic and international church plant. To fund this initiative, our goal is
to raise $2.2 million in giving over the next three years. The goal is broken down, and
key details given on how we will Build This House for the glory of God!

6
BUILD THIS HOUSE IN OUR HEARTS // $1.2 M
What God has accomplished through COTFC in the first three years is nothing short of a
miracle. But we think Hes not done. We are believing together to reach an additional 1,000
people in the next three years of our church. In order to effectively minister to this new wave
of families, we need to increase our giving to build our staff and fund additional ministries.

BUILD THIS HOUSE IN OUR COMMUNITY // $780,000

We believe the effectiveness of our ministry will be greatly impacted by relocating into a
permanent home. A building allows us to drive a stake into the ground of our community.
It will also greatly increase the quality of ministry we are able to offer our kids, students and
groups. Additionally, we are excited about opportunities to leverage our building for the
benefit of our community.

BUILD THIS HOUSE IN OUR CITY // $176,000

Since the inception of our church, we have believed that Kansas City will be transformed
through an exponential movement of church plants and radical generosity. We believe God
is calling us to reproduce and plant another autonomous church or campus in the next three
years. We will also continue pouring resources into our city and strengthen like-minded
organizations making a positive difference.

BUILD THIS HOUSE IN OUR WORLD // $44,000

God has given our church a burden for the people of the impoverished nation of Moldova.
We have already begun the w ork of planting our first church with great success. Through
the Build This House initiative, we will complete and fully fund our first church plant in
Cania and begin work on a second.

buildthishouse.church
$1.2 M
Why are we believing for an additional 1,000 people reached
with the gospel? Simply put, because the Great Commission
never gets old! We recognize the hard truth that our communities
are filled with scores of people who dont personally know Jesus
as their Lord and Savior. This truth keeps us up at night, and we
believe that we are Gods Plan A to do something about it! To
effectively steward this upcoming growth, over the next three
years we would need to:

Increase the capacity of our current staff

(move volunteers to part-time, move part-time staff to full-time)
Add additional staff
Increase ministry funding
Add additional ministries

8
9
$780,000
Why do we feel that God is leading us to purchase a building in
our community? The reason is two-fold. First, through our own
facility, we believe we can actually reach more people for Christ!
Culturally, a large percentage of our community will never step
foot into a portable location. James, the brother of Jesus, says in
Acts 15:19 (NIV), It is my judgement, therefore, that we should
not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.
We believe we need to eliminate any distraction that would
keep us reaching our maximum impact as a church. Secondly,
we believe a permanent home would allow us to increase the
overall effectiveness of our ministries by:

Providing better, safer and more structured environments

for our kids and youth
Increasing the quality and consistency of our Creative &
Worship Arts
Leveraging our facility to forge new partnerships in the city
Raising the quality of our hospitality and first-time guest
experiences

10
11
$176,000
Why should Church of the Four Corners take seriously the call
to plant other churches? Mostly, because the American Church
is dying. In America alone, upwards of 7,000 churches will
close their doors this year. Currently, there are approximately
156 million unchurched people living in the United States.
However, we believe there is hope! Heres why:

New churches baptize twice the amount annually as

established ones
Churches that plant, grow three times faster
Church planting is the most effective way to reach the lost
Church planting is the New Testament model

12
13
$44,000
Why plant internationally? We believe God has the same desire
for our neighbor down the street as he does for the widow and
orphan living in the war-torn country of Moldova. The great
commission extends beyond the borders of the Unites States.
Jesus says in Matthew 28:19 - Therefore go and make disciples
of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of
the Son and of the Holy Spirit The resources we will send to
Moldova will help accomplish the following:

Finish the first church plant in the village of Cania

Continue annual coal and food distribution to local widows
Begin work on a second plant

3 WAYS
TO RESPOND
Pray
This vision is Gods vision and we know that without Him we will never be able to
accomplish something so big. Over the next three years, were going to pray. Were
going to ask God to stay with us from the beginning to the end as we step out in faith
and believe that He would help reach the Greater Kansas City area and the world!

Believe
Its one thing to pray its something else entirely to pray with BIG faith believing that
the same God who created the universe longs to move on our behalf! Throughout this
initiative, we refuse to live with offensively small faith. We choose to actually believe the
words of Paul in Ephesians 3:20 where he writes that God is able to do more than we
could ask or imagine according to His power at work within us.

Give
Take a few moments and locate where you
are on the giving pathway. Consider taking
the next step to increase your impact.
Whether youre brand new or have been
giving to COTFC for a long time, were
asking you to prayerfully consider taking
the next step forward.

16
GIVING
PATHWAY
Take the next step or perhaps skip a step or
two to get to the place that the Lord wants EXTRAVAGANT
you to be on this pathway. I/we faithfully give more
than 10% of my/our income.

PROPORTIONAL
I/we faithfully give
10% of my/our income.

CONSISTENT
I/we give on a regular basis but its
less than 10% of my/our income.

SOMETIMES
I/we give to Church of the
Four Corners occasionally.

FIRST TIME
I/we are new or have not yet given to
Church of the Four Corners before now.

17
COMMITMENT CARD
Heres how well get to $2.2 M. Every
single gift will contribute to our overall
vision. Meeting the challenge of Build
This House will require all of us to
practice sacrificial generosity.

As we focus on the Build This House

initiative this spring, we will all have the
opportunity to fill out a commitment card
(sample to the right). This card is designed
to help you arrive at the total amount that
you believe the Lord is calling you to give
to COTFC over the next three years.

We see filling out the commitment card

as an important discipleship moment.
We want everyone at COTFC to grow in
generosity and this card is designed to
help you do that.

What does sacrificial generosity look like?

Start with a number that seems doable

a number that you can make work.

Nowpick a number that is truly

generous a number that would
require sacrifice, significant lifestyle
change, and dependence upon
God alone.

We want to challenge you to pick that

number. Lets walk together in faith to see
our lives transformed and our community
impacted for Christs Kingdom!

FUNDING THE HOUSE
Build This House is a one-fund initiative, meaning that every contribution to Gods
work through Church of the Four Corners between April 2017 and April 2020 is a
contribution to Build This House. Every aspect of our ministry vision will be funded
through the Build This House initiative; there will not be separate funds. On April 9,
we will ask everyone to participate in a Big Give offering, contributing as much as
possible toward their Build This House commitments.

FAQs
What are you asking me to do?
Everyone who calls Church of the Four Corners home is being asked to make a
three-year commitment. We serve a great God and trust Him to exceed our greatest
expectations - to do more than we could ever hope or imagine through our collective
Build This House commitments.

What if I cant afford to give right now?

Even in times of scarcity, God wants our hearts. The widow who gave her last coin did
not make a very large financial contribution, but Jesus said that she gave the largest
gift of all. Build This House is about all of us coming together, giving generously, and
trusting God to do the rest.

What if Im in debt right now? Am I still supposed to give?

Its important for generosity to be a part of our life at every point. If you are in the
process of paying off debt, we commend you, and you should continue to do so.
But the Bible does not teach that we withhold giving until we are debt-free. When
we honor God first with our giving, He promises to be involved with every other
aspect of our finances. If you are need of assistance to become debt-free, consider
attending one of our I Was Broke Now Im Not small groups.

What if Im a college student?

God has blessed Church of the Four Corners by allowing us to invest in the lives of
college students. Although college students are notorious for living on tight budgets,
the college years are an ideal time to develop a Kingdom-focused plan in the areas of
personal budgeting and generous giving.

What if Im new or have never given to COTFC before?

If you have never given financially to Church of the Four Corners, Build This House
is for you! This is a one-fund generosity initiative. It is different from a traditional
capital campaign where you are asked to give an extra gift above and beyond
your regular giving. Rather, Build This House recognizes that everyone in the
church is called to give generously and sacrificially. This initiative is not merely
for super-givers; it is for all of us.

20
Why do churches talk about money, finances, and
giving so much?
Churches talk about money a lot because the Bible talks about money a lot.
Jesus himself made money particularly our desire for it and our use of it
a major piece of our following Him as His disciples. For many, our affluence
and desire for wealth stand in the way of the kind of selfless and sacrificial
life Jesus calls us to, and the desire for money easily becomes an obstacle
to seeking our eternal satisfaction in God.

How long will my commitment be to Build This House?

We are asking for financial commitments to the Build This House initiative
including both general giving and what we need to fully pursue our vision
for a three-year period beginning in April 2017. Our commitment Sunday
will be March 19, 2017, and we will all begin giving toward those
commitments on April 9, 2017.

What forms of contributions will be accepted?

Contributions can be made via cash, check, and online transactions.
Additional forms of contribution can include the transference of title
to marketable stocks, bonds, real estate, ETFs, etc. Let us know if you
are interested in contributing in one of these additional ways.

Can I update my commitment after commitment

Sunday if my circumstances change?
Yes. You may update your commitment pledge at any time.

Do I have to be an owner or regular attender at

COTFC to participate?
No. Anyone is welcome to give to the Build This House initiative and
share in what God is doing here at COTFC!

Is my commitment confidential?
Yes. Only our small financial team has knowledge of pledges and
giving records.

SMALL
GROUPS

Introduction
At Church of the Four Corners, we believe our church must
grow larger and smaller at the same time. We grow larger
to reach as many people as possible with the life-giving
message of Jesus. We gather in Small Groups to build
community and care for people.

For us, Small Groups have one, simple purpose - to bring

people together! We believe God created us to live in
community with others and only then can we experience
the full life He intends for us.

22
Thats why we are offering Small Group study opportunities so you can connect
with others during this exciting season in the life of our church. Heres how to
get involved:

Believing life change happens best in the context of relationships, all of our
small groups, with the exception of Christian Essentials and I Was Broke Now
Im Not, will partner with the church-wide Build This House series as part of
the 2017 Winter semester.

Message notes and a small group study guide has been provided for the Build
This House series. Both will complement our Sunday worship services as we come
together to learn from one another and what it means to Build This House in our
Hearts, Community, City, and our World!

If you are not currently in a Small Group we will help you find the best group for
you. A list of open groups is available at www.cotfc.com/groups. Questions about
joining a Small Group can be directed to Jonathan Hughes at jonathanh@cotfc.com.

Are you new to Church of the Four Corners?

If you are relatively new to COTFC, we believe God has always had it in His heart to
take people on a four-step spiritual journey. The Church of the Four Corners Growth
Track guides you to discover your redemptive purpose and live the life God has created
for you. The Growth Track is made up of four steps that equip you to follow Jesus,
connect to the church, discover your purpose, and serve others. More information
about the Growth Track can be found at www.cotfc.com/growth-track.

The following pages will serve as a study and discussion guide as we

progress through the message series and pray together to see God
Build This House!

SMALL GROUP // WEEK 1

God is the First and Most Generous Giver

Key Verse: 1 John 4:19: We love because he first loved us.

Generosity is not about what God wants from us, its about what He wants for
us. Gods plan for us is that we develop a lifestyle of serving others and gener-
ously give to meet needs. In doing so, we imitate the generosity that He shows
to us on a daily basis.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

1. Have you ever done anything crazy because of your love for another person?
As crazy as it sounds, the Bible indicates that we get this sense of passion from God.
Read 1 John 4:19 - We love because He first loved us.
While this verse is not simply talking about the passionate feelings of love, it is true
that we understand genuine, selfless love because God first demonstrated it toward us.

2. In what ways could you say that God has demonstrated His love for you?
Read John 3:16 - For God so loved the world that He gave
God not only loves us, but He shows us His love in tangible ways through radical
acts of generosity.

3. Do you think it is possible to be a disciple of Jesus (someone who learns from His
teaching and follows His ways) and NOT give generously?

MOVE TO ACTION // Moving Toward Transformation

Look through the God Gives handout. Share one or two of the statements
of Gods generosity that initially strikes or has significant meaning for you.
Watch the video clip Life is a Gift.

NEXT STEPS
1. Think specifically about your life and situationWhat would a radical flood of
generosity look like in your life?

2. What if our church was flooded with generosity?

PRAYER Celebrate the generous nature of God. Pray that God would build and shape a
generous spirit in us.

Generosity is the Antidote of Materialism

Key Verse: Matthew 6: 19-21: Do not store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where
moths and vermin destroy, and where thieves break in and steal. But store up for yourselves
treasures in heaven, where moths and vermin do not destroy, and where thieves do not
break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Worry, fear, greed and loss are just a few hurdles we face in trying to follow Jesus
today. Our lives are sometimes lived in a constant quest for more stuff, the latest
gadget, a larger house, a newer car, a better job, etc. When we fall into this trap,
our freedom to live a joyful and generous life is robbed. Thankfully, there is an
antidote that provides freedom from our possessions and leads us to a greater
dependence on God.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

1. What role do you think materialism and consumerism play in the culture around us? In other
words, how much do materialism and consumerism affect our lives?
Watch the video clip Keeping Up with the Joneses

2. Have you bought anything in the last monthor the last weekthat you didnt really need?
Have you bought anything to keep in step with your neighbors out of compulsion or just
because it was something that caught your eye?
God doesnt want us to sell everything we have and live in poverty but Jesus makes it clear
that it is easy for us to fall in love with - and quickly accumulate - earthly treasures.
Read Matthew 6: 19-21.

MOVE TO ACTION // Moving Toward Freedom

In Luke 16, Jesus talks extensively about money and generosity. One of the more memorable
stories from this chapter is the story of the rich man and Lazarus. Read Luke 16:19-31.
Do you think it is possible to live in a society like ours and truly follow Jesuss teachings on
radical generosity? How?

NEXT STEPS
1. Spend some time as a group discussing the possibility of a serve or generosity project for
the group. Are there people in your circle of friends or family who are hurting in some way?

2. How can you begin to be aware and engage generosity on a daily basis?

PRAYER Pray that God would help us be generous in the simplest of ways. Pray that God would
help us in our struggles with materialism and give us the ability to live radically generous lives that
honor God.

Great Blessings Accompany the Generous Life

Key Verse: Acts 20:35: In everything I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work
we must help the weak, remember the words the Lord Jesus said: It is more blessed to
give than to receive.

Many Christians have a hard time accepting rewards from God. All throughout the
Bible, God continuously rewards the faithful. When we begin to practice generosity,
God is faithful in giving us a great reward: deeper intimacy with the Father.

Watch the video clip Miracle in Franklin

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

1. When you think of the most joyful moments in yourt life, what events come to mind?
Although we dont always make the connection, many of our most joy-filled moments come
as we are giving.
Read 1 Kings 17: 7-16. One thing that should grab our attention is that there was not a lot
of joy in this story until the widow decided to be generous. But, a second aspect of the story
this is notable is the widow received an immediate reward for her generous act of faith.

2. Have you ever received an expected, but immediate reward for an act of faith or generosity?
There are times in our lives where God does not make us wait to experience the rewards of
our faith. But, as we all know, there are also times when God challenges us to follow Him
even when we see no rewards or benefits in sight.

MOVE TO ACTION // Moving Toward Trust

Read Matthew 25:31-46 (The Parable of the Sheep and Goats). As Jesus spoke about this
important end time event, why do you think He placed so much emphasis on generosity?
In an instant gratification society, how difficult is it for you to store up treasures in heaven
rather than having an immediate return for your kindness?

Watch the video clip Miracle in Franklin - The Rest of the Story

NEXT STEPS
1. From the video, what did you think about the gift that was given? Would you consider giving
that type of gift if God prompted you to do it?

2. What do you need to do right now to experience a life full of overflowing joy?

PRAYER Pray that God would lead us into a generous lifestyle so that we can live a blessed life
and gain a deeper intimacy in our relationship with Jesus.

Everyone Can Excel in the Grace of Giving

Key Verse: Matthew 5:38-43: You have heard that it was said, Eye for eye, and tooth for
tooth. But I tell you, do not resist an evil person. If anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn
to them the other cheek also. And if anyone wants to sue you and take your shirt, hand over
your coat as well. If anyone forces you to go one mile, go with them two miles. Give to the
one who asks you, and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.
Many of us think that only the rich and wealthy can excel at giving. True, there are great
humanitarians who have distributed vast sums of money to people and institutions wor-
thy of their gift. But great giving is not determined by dollar amounts but by the amount
of sacrifice. And once that standard is used, the playing field becomes level between the
rich and the poor. In other words, one does not have to be rich to be a generous giver.

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

1. Share a story of generosity from a child or from others who seemingly could not afford to be generous.
Read Luke 10:25-37. Jesus used a Samaritan in this parable because the Jews despised the
Samaritans as a result of their racial heritage. Therefore, Jesus placed a Samaritan at the center
of this story to show that anyone can live generously, despite your family heritage or how people
look at you.

2. As you think through the story of the Good Samaritan, what generous actions stand out to you
and why did it make an impression on you?
The Samaritan was never presumed to be rich. He was just an everyday guy who truly loved
and blessed his enemies.

3. Read Mark 12:41-44. Are you challenged by this widow or intimidated by her? In other words,
do you really believe that it is possible for anyone - regardless of race, gender or social status - to
imitate the generosity of God?

MOVE TO ACTION // Moving Toward Life

Being generous requires more than just having the best of intentions, saying the right things, or
even starting the right things. God wants us to step out in front of personal barriers and give
generously to those around us.
What obstacles in your life stand in the way of the giving God is calling you to do? What is
the next thing you can do to overcome these obstacles?
NEXT STEPS
Great giving is not determined by dollar amounts but by the amount of sacrifice. As we move into
the final week of our study, what is God calling you to do?

PRAYER Pray that God would help us to understand that everyone can excel in the grace of giving.
Pray that God would help us to develop a plan and make decisions to live a more generous life.

Living with Audacious Faith

Key Verse: 2 Samuel 24:24: I will not offer burnt offerings to the Lord my God which
cost me nothing.
So far in our study we have learned that God is the first and most generous giver. From the moment
He imparted life to mankind to the climactic gift of salvation through the death of His Son, Jesus
Christ, God has set the supreme example of a radical, sacrificial gift for His followers.

Next, we learned that generosity is the antidote for materialism. Practicing a life of generosity
helps free us from the dangers of money and moves us into the freedom that comes with the true,
generous life.

In week 3, we learned that great blessings accompany the generous life. All throughout the Bible,
God rewards the faithful. When we begin to practice generosity, God is faithful in giving us a great
reward: deeper intimacy with the Father.

Last week, we learned how everyone can excel in the grace of giving. Great giving is not deter-
mined by dollar amounts but by the amount of sacrifice. And once that standard is used, the playing
field becomes level between the rich and the poor.

Psalm 127:1 tells us, Unless God builds the house, the builders labor in vain. In our final discus-
sion, we will challenge the group to live with audacious faith and prayerfully consider how God
might call us to participate in doing our part to see God Build This House!

QUESTIONS FOR DISCUSSION

1. How has the Lord been working in your heart as you contemplate what generosity looks like for
you? What are you going to do about it?
2. Read 2 Corinthians 8:11-12. In this passage, Paul mentions twice, Give in proportion to what
you have. He never established a standard for giving, only a standard of giving. How do these
verses encourage you to start the discipline of giving?
MOVE TO ACTION // Living with Audacious Faith
Read 2 Samuel 24:24. Where there is true, strong love to Jesus it will cost us something. David
knew that it would not be a gift nor a sacrifice unto the Lord if it did not cost him something. He
didnt look for the cheapest way possible to please God.
What would your life look like if giving decisions governed your spending? What needs to
happen in your life for this shift to take place?
NEXT STEPS
Read 2 Corinthians 9:7. Giving begins with the settled conviction that what I have earned or what
has been given to me is not mine but Gods.
What is the step that requires sacrifice for you to commit to giving?
PRAYER Pray that no matter what your situation, God would use your resources to advance His
kingdom. Pray that God would reveal a plan for you to give generously. Pray for grace to follow
through on His commands, and trust Him to provide all that you need.
