Instructional Strategies and Learning Tasks (Procedures & Timelines)


Time Instructional Strategies/Learning Tasks
Purpose
1. Warm Up: Eb Major Scale and Chorale, Dynamics

5 minutes Students perform various warm ups in the key of Eb major, including scale patterns and
simple chorales. Teacher engages students in musicality exercises by showing different
dynamics, articulations, and styles in conducting.
2. Diagram Amazing Grace, By Section
a. Teacher reviews objectives of worksheet
i. Students receive copies of worksheet
20 minutes b. Students perform Amazing Grace in small sections
i. Teacher gives students time after each section to work on their diagram
c. Teacher guides students along and adds in reminders as necessary
i. Students are encouraged to continue to modify graph as they play
3. Review Diagrams
a. Teacher explains students will play through piece to review their diagrams
10 minutes b. Students perform through Amazing Grace with no stops
i. Encouraged to make modifications to graphs during rests
c. Students are given time after performance to modify graph

4. Analyze and Evaluate Student Diagrams

10 minutes Teacher takes student volunteers to present their diagrams. Teacher draws diagram on board,
and class reviews and evaluates student diagrams. Teacher guides class discussion with
question and answer as students analyze different diagrams.
