Message Strategy
Background
I wanted to begin by giving an introduction to the Brexit and why it is occurring. I thought that this would
provide a solid basis for what the implications of the Brexit were and then how my audience should react
to the implications. In both my written piece and in my presentation I chose to address a problem early
on: Business executives in different industries respond to macroeconomic changes differently. Since my
audience shouldnt react to Brexit the same way I chose to highlight important factors and changes due to
Brexit that they should take into account, and follow that with general overall policies which apply across
all industries.
Implications
For the Implication section I chose to use both inductive and deductive reasoning. I used inductive
reasoning when addressing stock market volatility and the strong dollar. I presented an observation
(charts) and suggested that we should expect higher stock market volatility and a strong dollar because of
the Brexit. I then used deductive reasoning when addressing a potential delay in the fed rate hike by
stating that in times where the dollar is strong and there is a volatile market the fed tends not to raise
rates. I used the previous charts to establish this confirmation.
Long-term Consequences
I chose to make this section for more of managerial perspective. My previous implications section was
tailored towards financial analysis which is part of what business executives handle, and I wanted to
address how the Brexit will also affect the another responsibility of theirs: management.
Review/Takeaways
I created a review section to give a brief recap of my entire presentation and to gloss over the take home
points if somebody had not been paying attention the entire time.
Powerpoint
I designed my powerpoint with slides with images and color on themI find white text more appealing
on powerpoints and chose to have a background which would mesh well with this. I employed a running
footer which colored the current slide in yellow to give my audience a guide to the presentation. I chose
to bullet ideas and expand on them verbally. I used several charts in my immediate implication slide to
appeal to logical reasoning as this is typically most important during financial decision making.
Written Piece
I wanted to make this very easy to read and quick to grasp main points from. I accomplished this by using
bold and italicized sections along with numbered bullet points and solid sub-bullets. This design makes it
very easy to navigate the document and gives a logical appearance.
