Gho Samrakshanam - Excerpts From Deivathin Kural

In scientific world, they say that it is psychologically satisfying to worship the cow as
Ghomatha, which gives milk, ghee, curd, dung and urine which are good. That is also true.
But the divinity of the cow is beyond psychology. Importantly it is because of the divinity she
is worshipped. We are proud that our forefathers know not only the use of milk and ghee like

Hara Hara Sankara Jaya Jaya Sankara | Hara Hara Sankara Jaya Jaya Sankara | Hara Hara Sankara Jaya Jaya Sankara
Hara Hara Sankara Jaya Jaya Sankara | Hara Hara Sankara Jaya Jaya Sankara | Hara Hara Sankara Jaya Jaya Sankara

the people of other countries but also the purifying properties of the cows dung and urine.
Panchagavyam when given for being taken in, it is not only for the physical purification of
the body but for the purification of the soul. Panchagavyam has the power to remove sins and
generate Punyam. Because it is taken along with recitation of manthras this power increases.
It should be noted that it is in the context of Punyahavachanam that taking Panchagavyam
has been prescribed.
The welfare of the cow will ensure the welfare of the country. If it is protected sins will come
down on their own. If it is subjected to cruelties, there will be trouble for the whole world.
People have to come together as a family in the service of cow. I believe that if awareness
is created among our vast population about the need for this service the requisite finance and the required volunteers will become available. It is
enough if a few people get together at different places and start making efforts with perseverance. What is to be noted in this is that there should
not be a complete dichotomy between those who give money and those who volunteer to do physical service. The one who contributes money
should also render some physical service and the one who volunteers to do physical service should also contribute some money. Only then
there will be total involvement of all people. Apart from this in the society too, instead of there being two separate groups of people- those who
contribute money and those who render physical service all people should come together as one family and as children of Ghomatha.
My wish is that in addition to we Hindus coming together as a family in the service of the cow
we have to carry this message with love to people of other religion, so that the entire society comes
together as a family for doing this service. Religion affinity may take different forms for different
people but since compassion to animals is common to all, all religionists in our country should come
together on these basics. That is my wish.
All 33 crore devathas reside in Gho Matha. She is a walking temple by herself. All Punniya
Theerthas (Sacred rivers) reside in her.
Ignoring Cow by not feeding properly and killing is a grave sin as She is a Treasure.
Gho Matha is Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi herself. Goddess Sri Mahalakshmi resides in the rear
part of the cow. In Sri Matam Gho Puja is done daily before Ghaja puja.
Cows when they cease to provide milk still provide ingredients for organic manure.
Cow feeding can be made very simple by collecting all vegetable waste daily from our homes,
hotels, and hostels on a Daily basis. All we need to do is to show some heart to do this.

Aayiram Graamathu Periyava

Aayiram Graamathu Periyava also known as Kalavai Periyava is the 66th
Sankaracharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. He belongs to Hoysala Karnataka Brahmin
sect. His Poorvashrama name was Swaminathan.
During the late 18th century, when the 65th Sankaracharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam,
Sri Sudarshana Mahadevendra Saraswathi Swamigal (Also known as Ilayaathangkudi
Periyava) was doing His Vijaya Yatra in Ramanathapuram Jilla, Sri Swaminathan joined the
Sri Matam camp. He was serving His Holiness for His Nithya Pooja. Upon closely watching
the young Tejasvi Swaminathan, His Holiness initiated him into Sanyasam and named Him
Sri Chandrashekarendra Saraswathi Swamigal.
In the year 1890, after Ilayaathangkudi Periyava attained Siddhi, Sri Chandrasekarendra
Saraswathi Swamigal became the 66th Sankaracharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam. After
His Gurunathars Siddhi, Sri Swamigal reached Kumbakonam via Pudukottai, Thanjavur,
Thiruvaiyaru and Kapisthalam. He then started His Sastra-Vidhyaabhyasam from
Thiruvaiyaru Memaamsa Kuppuswami Sastrigal, Thiruvisainallur Mahalinga Sastrigal, Kumbakonam Iyengar Street Agnihotram Rajagopala
Thathacharyar, Mahamahopadhyaya Thiruvisainallur Venkatasubba Sastrigal and few other highly learned vedantic scholars. Sri Swamigal
started Advaitha Sabha in the year 1894 in Kumbakonam to propagate Advaitha Philosophy and also to support Advaitha Vedantic Scholars.
Mahamahopadhyaya Mannargudi Raju Sastrigal (also knowns as Mannargudi Periyaval) , Diwan Seshaiah Sastrigal and many stalwarts had
been the pillars of Advaitha Sabha.
In the year 1896, Sri Swamigal started His Vijaya Yatra in Thanjavur district and visited over 1000 villages and that is why He is fondly known
as Aayiram Graamathu Periyava. During His Vijaya Yatra, people from many villages donated their cultivable land to Sri Matam.
In the year 1906, Sri Swamigal again started His Vijaya Yatra and reached South Arcot district and stayed in Thirupaadhiripuliyur (Cuddalore)
and Pondicherry for few months. The French government gave Military Respect to Sri Swamigal. During His stay in Kalavai, Sri Swamigal got sick
and attained Siddhi in the year 1907 (Parabhava Varusham) on Krishna Paksha Ashtami Thithi in the month of Magha. Sri Swamigal was just 35
years when He attained Siddhi. He was succeeded by Sri Mahadevendra Saraswathi Swamigal - the 67th Sankaracharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti
Peetam who took care of His ailing Guru Sri Kalavai Periyava. Sri Mahadevendra Saraswathi Swamigal occupied the Peetam for only seven days
and attained Siddhi at Kalavai on Sukhla Paksha Prathama Thithi in the month of Phalguna in the same year 1907. It was then, the 13 years young
boy named Swaminathan was initiated as the 68th Sankaracharya of Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Peetam on 13th February 1907 and was given the
Deeksha Naamam as Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswathi Swamigal who is none other than Sri MahaPeriyava - Nadamaadum Dheivam!
Sri MahaPeriyava recollects an incident that happened when He became the Sankaracharya of Sri Matam. Kuchippalayam Reddiar, a miraasudhar
did lot of service to Sri Matam. Reddiar refused to see any other sanyasi by saying I wont see anybody after seeing the Chandramouleeswarar
Poojai done by my Kalavai Periyava. Such was his devotion to Kalavai Periyava.
Kalavai Periyavas Aradhanai is on Saturday, February 18th 2017 and, Sri Mahadevendra Saraswathi Swamigal Aradhanai is on Monday,

he always insisted on Naama & Nithya Karma.
If asked, he recited... If recited, he listened... If neither, he
recites by himself. Thus, his life revolved around Bhagavatham,
so did he.
Well, what about his personal life? He was a family man
filled with personal and financial challenges... Still, He was a
Bhagavathar in the real sense. It is very much evident from the
following incidents...
When VJR mama went to Sri MahaPeriyava Darshan, he requested Sri MahaPeriyava to bless Bhagavathar
to be freed from his family and financial problems. Periyava promptly asked, Did Bhagavathar ask you to
inform me? Mama said, No, Periyava, he did not say anything. Seeing his state, we couldnt take it and
hence Im asking for him. Periyava said, Thats why I asked. As he is immersed in Bhagavatham, he doesnt
even realize that he has got problems. Periyava further continues, Neither you nor me need to worry about
him, he will be at Vaikuntam.
The very same VJR mama went to Sri Sivan SAR darshan and told Sri SAR about Bhagavathars hardships.
Sri Sar immediately replied, Neither you nor I need to worry about him, as he is immersed in Bhagavatham,
Puspagha Vimaanam will come for him.
Bhagavathars immense bhakthi and devotion is well known, yet, he always says : What we are all doing is
not Bhakthi; We are all admiring Bhakthi. To be more precise, here is His quote in Tamizh:

He is none other than Sri Kalyanarama Bhagavathar of Angarai village (near Trichi). He became Sri
