UNBELIEVABLE!

No Privacy for District 15 Junior High and Elementary School Children

D211 Parents for Privacy has confirmed it is now the practice of Community
Consolidated School District 15 (CCSD15) to allow opposite sex access to restrooms
and locker rooms in their junior high and elementary schools.

In an email exchange with a community resident, Superintendent Scott Thompson

confirmed the following:
If we have a transgender student in one of our schools who wishes to use a bathroom
or locker room of his/her identified gender, we have established privacy screens.

So there you have it. Without notifying parents or the community, current CCSD15
board members have decided to force our sons and daughters in junior high school to
share locker rooms with students of the opposite sex. The same practice applies to
school restrooms which will ultimately result in 5-14 year old boys using urinals in the
presence of a female student when one requests access.

According to Superintendent Thompson,

the practice was implemented in consultation with our attorneys after the Office of Civil
Rights ruling and court case associated with District 211 in 2015 and 2016.

We have no way of knowing what their attorneys told them but the truth is, NO federal
or state law currently requires public schools to allow girls and boys to use
restrooms and locker rooms together. A nationwide injunction in August 2016
blocking the Department of Education from enforcing its guidance gave added
reinforcement to those school districts willing to protect the privacy of ALL students.
While many voters may think the debate over childrens bodily privacy in schools will be
settled by the Supreme Court or in Springfield, local school officials are free to act on
their own to protect student privacy. It is crucial every voter find out where their local
candidates stand and vote accordingly.

Three current CCSD15 Board members ultimately responsible for this decision made
behind closed doors are asking to be re-elected on April 4th: Gerald Chapman, Peggy
Babcock, and James Ekeberg. The Board gets the final word and their lack of
transparency is appalling. To date, none of the eight challengers for the five open
positions on the board have agreed to publicly support the common sense solution of
designating access to student restrooms, locker rooms and showers according to
biological sex and making accommodations for students struggling with gender identity
issues.

Email them to let them know how you feel (see below) and be sure to mark your
calendar for the next school board meeting on March 8th at 7 pm at Walter R.
Sundling Jr High, 1100 N. Smith Street in Palatine. There will be an opportunity for
public commentary.
Speak out and make your voice heard. Schools have a duty to protect the privacy,
dignity, and well-being of all children.
