Job Roles in the Music Industry
The Music Industry consists of companies and individuals
that make money by creating and selling music. Among many individuals and organizations that operate within the industry there are; the musicians who compose and perform the music; the companies and professionals who create and sell music recordeds like:
A Music publisher- is the person responsible for
ensuring the songwriters and composers receive payment when their compositions are used commercially.
A Producer- has a very broad role in overseeing and
managing of tje recording of a band/soloist performers music.
Recording studios- Is a facility used for sound
recording and mixing music.
There are mqny more people who are used to make
and publish music but the most important person needed to make music is the Singer they are needed to record and perform the music.
The Role in the Music Industry that I choosed to talk
about is the Role of a Disk Jockey(aka dj).
What is the role of a Dj?
Disk Jockeys (DJ) play recorded music for audience on radio or at live venues. There are three main type of DJs: 1 Club DJs- work in clubs and bars, often supporting the work of a master of ceremonies, who might rap or sing over the music they also play and mix records to encourage people to dance, or to keep an atmosphere, either in one style or a mixture of styles . 2 Radio DJs- present a particular type of radio
programmed, according to their style and the type of music they like. Sometimes they ask for help choose the music to be played. Keep an entertaining flow of conversation within very tight time slots. Provide links between records, which may involve audience participation through phone-ins emails and text messages
Mobile DJs- works at parties and special events,
such as weddings and birthday celebrations. Unload and set up their own equipment, including the mixing desk, vinyl records or CDs, high powered amplifiers and speakers, and lighting equipment
According to the Caymanian Compass An example of a DJ
in Cayman is Keevon Douglas Von(a.k.a DJ Von) he is one of Caymans best Djs ever. He started his career by being a Dj for Cayman Brac Teen Disco, which he was able to showcase his talent and skills. Not long after returning to Cayman he received news of an upcoming DJ competition, he entered the competition with the hope of wining which he lost but he walked away with the award of Peoples Choice Award. He was called to work for a Radio Station as a DJ for Vibe 98.9 FM, which he wasted no time of accepting the job. DJ Von is now hosting his own show called The Early Vibe Show 10am to 2pm. DJ Von is a great example of a DJ because he is playing music for the younger generation while establishing his own music and he has found a lot of fans from Canada, Jamaica, Miami, Orlando and St. Maarteen and he continues to innovative the younger generation.
What is the role of a marketing manager in the
music industry? The marketing manager reports to the CEO who is the head of the indistry/company, and is responsible for long- term planning to maintain and develop new audiences, for promotion of the organization and its core products. Generating revenue from the box office sales and meeting
sale targets are central to this job.
What is the role of a record producer?
A producer has many roles that may include gathering ideas for a project, selecting songs and/or session musicians, proposing changes to the song arrangements, coaching the artist and musicians in the studio, controlling the recording sessions, and supervising the entire process through audio mixing and in some cases, to the audio mastering stage. An audio mastering stage is the process of preparing and transferring audio. Producers also often take on a wider entrepreneurial role, with responsibility for the budget, schedules, contracts and negotiations.
Do performers marketing managers and record
producers need to work together? Yes. A marketing manager and record producers need to work together because a record producer has a broad role by overseeing and recording soloist/band, they have to gather ideas for the project, selecting songs and session musicians, proposing changes to the song arrangements, coaching the artist and musicians in the studio, controlling the record sessions, and supervising the entire process through audio mixing and sometimes they have to supervise mastering stage. While a marketing manager (talent manager) is an individual or company who guides the professional career of artists in the music industry. The responsibility of the talent agent is to oversee the day-to-day business affairs of an artist advise and counsel talent concerning professional matters long term plans and personal decisions, which may affect their career.
