SCHOOL NOTES MICHAELMAS 2016

COMMENT
What this term has taught us more than
anything else is that if you have enough belief
and you work hard, anything is possible. It is
certainly true that success breeds success and
there is a positivity running through the school
that is infectious. The boys at the top of the
school have led the charge and it has filtered
down throughout the school.

Whether it is on the games field, in the music

department or in the classroom, the most
important thing is attitude. We have to work
hard, be prepared to fail and be able to pick
ourselves up and try again. It is only by
embracing our mistakes and learning from
them that we can find out how good we can be.

1st XI Football
These pages are littered with examples of this
mindset and the boys should be very proud of
their achievements and the wide range of

A PERFECT SEASON!
Sometimes the fates collide to produce a team of rare quality that rises above normal standards. This was
such a year.We were blessed with extremely talented individual players and, just as importantly, a team
spirit and togetherness that endured every test that was placed before them.
The term got off to a brilliant start with wins against Woodcote and Horris Hill. At times the football was
sublime, never more so than at the start of the second half against Horris Hill when we scored without
our opponents even touching the ball. St Georges were a good side and we showed great resilience to
secure a 2-0 win. Ashdown followed and after four games we had still not conceded a goal. It took a
strong Spanish side to breach our defences for the first time.
After the tour, the football began to reach a new level. They were all working for each other and the aim
was clear. Could they possibly go through the season winning every game?
Bishopsgate were a good test but we attacked with pace and proved very difficult to stop. In the second
game against Woodcote we played some sublime football, much to our opponents distress! All eyes
were now on the Ludgrove game. They brought a talented young side but we were, by now, playing the
sort of football we had been aiming for. It was a scintillating display of football, played how it should be,
and 5-0 was a fair result.
We had a fairly physical game against Papplewick but maintained our discipline very well. Another tight
game against Bishopsgate followed and we ended with a fairly comfortable win against Knightsbridge in
which we were able to blood some of next years potential players.
They had done it. An astonishing season which will live very long indeed in the memory.

Horatios Garden
On 15th October,
Sunningdale hosted
a charity concert in
aid of the Charity
Horatios Garden.
TheVoce choir, lead
by Harry Briggs,
sang beautifully and
we were very proud of Joseph Olangundoye who
performed two amazing violin recitals. Horatios
Garden was set up in memory of Old Etonian
Horatio Chapple who tragically died on his gap

The event raised more than 3,000 and thank you to
