City planning:- its a profession in which a planner works to build a city by striking a balance between residential,
So the task is -
to plan a city with adequate infrastructure to sustain effectively, the given design population and to employ the
total working population
to plan the city in such a way that it can sustain growing infrastructure and population , minimize
environmental effects on the people, provide convenient transportation as well as being good aesthetically.
GENERAL SPECIFICATIONS :-
LAND PLOT
the total plot area of the city is 15km x 10km (excluding water body & eco sensitive zone).
area on the right side of city is eco-sensitive zone which is very important from biodiversity point of view .
on the left side of the city there is a water body .
for the purpose of design ,the city has been divided into squares of side 500m and area required for each
building is specified in terms of no. of squares required. The total no. of squares is 600.
The demographic divide for the city is specified below (distribution of population under various age
groups),using the population divide you can figure out the numbers of different buildings required in the
city .

Note:
Wherever the population sustained is not mentioned, only one of that infrastructure facility is
required in the city
In case of industries, the population sustained has not been specified because the no. of industries
has to be chosen in such a way so as to sustain all the working population
For the purpose of planning residential quarters , it is being specified that the officers form 5% of
the total population,25% people prefer living in first class quarters and 70% people second class
quarters
The number of each infrastructural facility can be decided from the population sustained by that
facility. Note- An infrastructure facility needs to sustain only those age groups falling within its
purview. Ex: Schools need to sustain only school going population, but shopping mall needs to
sustain everyone.
For a particular infrastructure facility, the number of squares required for such single building,
should be interconnected. For example, a school should have three interconnected squares
wherever it is placed.
It will be beneficial for the participants to inculcate their innovations once their city plan fulfills all
the necessary prerequisites.
Each participating team is required to send a list of salient features, along with the city plan,
explaining the thought process behind the proposed city plan which would comment on how
various locations were arrived at.
All the data mentioned here does not necessarily comply with real life values, rather have been
compiled by team Aramus, after adequate thought, for the sole purpose of care and convenience of
the designers.
Download the PDF File for the land plot of the city where in the total land area of the city is divided
into 600 squares. Take as many copies as you feel neccessary.
Mark all the infrastructural facilities required, as calculated from the above data on this land plot.
You can use different colour combinations or symbols to represent each infrastructural facility on
the land map.
After finalising your design take the snapshot and mail it along with doc or pdf file containing the
salient features of the city layout to nirmaan11@itbhu.ac.in
