Taloitan Anah, the community organization through
which your child receives the benefits of your
sponsorship, is located in Indonesias East Nusa
Tenggara Province in Indonesia.
The Community at a Glance
The land is hilly, barren and rocky. The long dry season
results in infertile and grassless soil. Local people rely
on farming and animal breeding to support their daily
life. Communicable diseases and poor sanitation plague
the community. During the dry season, it is difficult to
get clean water.
Health Services
The community based health program has established a
village pharmacy and a health insurance plan that
serves families who live too far away from the local
health service center. The community organization also
conducts training sessions for local health cadres on
mother and child health, and communicable disease
prevention.
To help solve the water shortage, water containers are
stored at the village, and a public water source has
been provided. The community organization also
provided sanitation facilities such as health latrines.
The nutritional program focuses on increasing the
nutritional level and health of children. The parents have
learned how to feed, take care of and improve the
health of their children and this has significantly reduced the
malnutrition rate.
Education Services
The community organization conducts training workshops
and seminars for preschool tutors on the care, teaching and
play activities for children. The community organization also
supports educational play facilitates. It assists the children
in both the kindergarten and the play group in contest
activities on the local district every year, holds art and
cultural staging for Childrens Day every year and also
stresses the importance of birth certificates for the children.
The community organization focuses on developing the
performance and talents of children and supports the
implementation of quality education through an education
institution in the village. These activities include paying the
school tuition for children who have good performance at
the junior, senior high and college levels; organizing a small
library; providing skill courses for children who drop out of
school; supporting the local school by providing school
equipment; and capacity building for teachers on living
values training to help create a child-friendly environment
for the children.
Family Livelihood Services
The community organization provides working capital to
increase the families income and offers courses and training
in capacity building, project management, farming, animal
breeding and micro-community working groups.
