A. General Information
Project Title: Project 471

Target Community/Beneficiaries: The whole community of Barangay 471, Zone 46,

District 10 in Sampaloc, Manila.

Community Background:

Barangay 471, Zone 46, District 10 has a land area composed of 4

streets namely Antonio st., Asturias st., Navarra st., and Laong-Laan st.
The Barangay was established during former president Marcos time. It
has a total population of 20,000 to 40,000 residents.
The Barangay has no problem in terms of education, health and
nutrition, and promotion of human rights. According to Mr. Reynaldo
P.Manalang ( Executive officer of the barangay) only the new borns are
not yet educated, the residents eat more than 3 times a day, and that
they are a drug free community.
Schools, Clinics, Hospitals, Police Stations and Fire stations are very
accessible to the community. There are nearby schools like University
of Santo Tomas and College of Perpetual Help. Their health clinic is
located in P. Florentino corner Don Quijote, Belmonte Clinic. Their fire
station is located in Arsenio Lacson, corner Fajardo. They are near UST
hospital. The residents can reach all those infrastructure by just
walking which is very convenient.
One of the community's problem is disaster preparedness particularly
during floods. The drainage system is always clogged by garbage
which causes floods during rainy days. Mr. Manalang also said that the
residents don't segregate their wastes which is another problem. The
project intends to resolve the problem by conducting a seminar about
floods and proper waste management. After the seminar, there will be
cleaning around the community for 46 Sundays. The project is
intended to last for a year.
Other projects/ activities in the community are fire drills and fire drill
forums which also contributes to the communitys disaster
preparedness.

B. Objectives:
General Objective:

To teach the residents how to segregate their waste and clean the surroundings.
Specific Objective:

To raise awareness to the residents about flood and how will it be prevented.
The Residents will clean the streets/drainage every time, not only when it is raining.
