Fluency
Fluency Passage: A Walk on the Beach
Students should be reading the passage once every day
at home for one minute. Please record their WPM on
the back of the fluency page. Make sure to practice
expression while reading as well.
You will be receiving two fluency passages in the
Monday folder. One is a student copy which students
will turn in Friday with their nightly scores. The other
passage is a parent copy in order for parents to be able
to follow along while their student is reading aloud.
Math
This week students will continue Chapter 9: Length in
Metric Units. Students will also continue journaling
during math class. The journals will be sent home each
night in order to help them study and complete their
homework. The journal should come back and forth to
school each day!

Read 30 minutes each night with your child.

Language Arts
We will continue learning how to write expository
pieces during Language Arts this week. Students
will be learning how to introduce the topic, state
facts and supply details about them, and how to
write a closing paragraph.
Skill Building: We will continue to go over
different spelling patterns this week during skill
building.
Social Studies/Science
We will be continuing our science unit on Force and
Motion this week. In this unit students will be able to
identify the effect of applying pushes and pulls on
different objects. They will also understand the greater
the force applied, the greater the change in motion and
that objects are pulled toward the ground unless
something holds them up. In addition, students will
explore the ways that magnets can be used to make some
things move without touching them.

have any questions, please see the directions on the class website.
