OBEISANCE
Loving obeisance to my mother, Late Mrs. Bishan Pyari, who inculcated in us a
sense of devotion, sacrifice and discipline; and to my dear father Late Mr. Brij
Govind Mathur, a true Vedantist and a Karma Yogi, who by setting his own
example inspired us to face life as it comes, with tranquility, detachment and
complete dedication to the Divine Will, while doing our best.
My humble and most respectful pranams to Late Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji,
who, by his miracles showed us, and many of his devotees, the glimpses of
the wondrous and magnificent real world beyond, which inspired me to put in
writing some of our spiritual experiences for the benefit of the generations to
come.

PROLOGUE
Being born in the sacred land of India, one gets exposed to miraculous
stories of saints and sages and their intimate experiences of Divinity.
However, in the modern days of advanced Science and Technology,
it becomes so very difficult for the mind to accept these phenomena or to verify
their authenticity and rationale.
The miraculous experiences of saints of days goneby, like Tulsidas, Mira
Bai, Surdas, Kabir, Shirdi Sai Baba, Swami Nityanand and many others, in
alleviation of human sufferings, not only in India but in many other parts of the
world, are well known and are well documented.
In the most recent past, Brahmaleen Bhagavan Sri Sathya Sai Baba has been a
living example of Divinity at work in re-establishing Sathya (Truth or Reality),
Dharma (Righteous Conduct), Prema (Divine Love), Shanti (Supreme Peace)
and Ahimsa (Nonviolence in Thoughts, Words and Deeds) and demonstrating
immediate materialization of various objects as per His Sankalpa (Divine Will)
for the blissful happiness and well-being of millions of His Devotees all over
the world.
One is left to wonder as to how all this is possible.
Sri Sathya Sai explains that it is the Divine Play ofMaya (Illusion). Those who
have attained the Reality (Self-Realization) have declared that there exist real
vast strata of subjective experience of immense beauty and bliss beyond this
mundane world of objects. One cannot really explain the phenomenon but
It can be intimately experienced within oneself. Once the search begins the
experience automatically unfolds.
We, among those few, who have experienced the Spiritual Bliss, consider
ourselves to be extremely fortunate. I feel that I would be failing in my duty if
I do not share the intimate experience of Bliss with others who are inclined and
interested. This works is a humble attempt to disclose and share my own self-
experience of the Divine-within, so as to enable others to emulate.
Indeed, it is by sheer Grace of the Almighty that we met Late Dr. H. Khakhar
(Babaji as he was lovingly called) and what follows in the book is an account
of what we saw and experienced, as best as we can remember, for Seeing is
Believing !

ABOUT BABAJI
(Understood by some and misunderstood by most)
Very little is known about the past life of Late Dr. H. Khakhar Baba. He never
liked to talk much about himself. It is generally believed that he hailed from a
wealthy Gujarati family living in Kutch.
He was a medicine-man with MBBS and MD degrees. It is hard to say whether
he practiced medicine at any time. But he prescribed and even provided
medicines for his devotees, all of which were found to be very effective.
Many a times, he had mentioned that he had a great Guru who had done hard
penance for a number of years before he attained the state of self-realization.
He did not reveal much about his Guru.
He had settled down in Germany and had got married to German girl and they
had a daughter with whom Babaji had been in touch. Many of his books carry
the inscription: <Ex Libris Dr. H. Khakhar, Salzburg, Osterreich>.
During the World War II, he was in Great Britain and had served the British
Government as a prognosticator predicting some of the enemy moves using his
occult powers. For his exemplary contribution in winning the Desert War in
North Africa, the British Government had bestowed him with the coveted title
of OBE (Order of the British Empire).
On his return to India, he mostly lived in Mumbai with some of his devotees.
He did not like to reveal the location of his sojourn so as not to cause any
inconvenience to his hosts. He mostly travelled in hired taxi.
Though immaculately dressed, he lived a very simple, saintly and quiet life,
eating very little simple food and remained in meditative stance or trance most
of the time. He was an avid reader, having deep knowledge about various
subjects and had maintained a large library of over a hundred books, mainly on
religion, spirituality and occult science. He preferred to avoid publicity so as
not to attract large crowds.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 10

OUR FIRST DARSHAN
It was sometime in 1967 that my nephew, Umang Mathur and his wife Meera
had come to our place one evening and they wanted us to go to their home at
Napean Sea Road the following evening to meet a great, modern saint called
Dr. H. Khakhar Baba, OBE! We were told that he possessed supernatural
miraculous prowess and that by touching his lotus feet many a devotees had
had thrillingly different kinds of blissful experiences. We did not know what
to expect; nevertheless, we felt quite curious and we readily accepted the
invitation.
On reaching Umangs place the following evening, we noticed that there were
about a dozen friends gathered there, all of them seemed to be prominent
personalities, busy talking about their own unusual experiences on coming in
touch with Babaji.
When Dr. Babaji was ushered in, escorted by some of his devotees, we were quite
impressed by his appearance as a modern gentlemanly personage, immaculately
attired in a dark blue suit, donning around his neck the OBE medallion. He was
wearing some other types of decorative lapel-pins and medals. Umang touched
his feet and removed his shoes and escorted him to a specially prepared seat in
the adjoining room.
Meera and her parents, Mr. & Mrs. Faqir Chand, who had come to Mumbai
on a visit from Delhi, had followed Umang to the adjacent room to pay their
respects to Babaji by touching his feet. While Mr. and Mrs. Faqir Chand sat on
the floor to chat with Babaji, Meera went in to fetch a cold drink for Babaji.
Subsequently, those who were waiting in the drawing room longing to meet
Babaji or had some problem to talk about with Babaji were requested to go
in one by one. We saw that they came out, feeling quite happy and briefly
described what they talked about with Babaji. One of the couples coming out
of the drawing room seemed to be especially blissful and showed us a packet
of vibhuti (sacred ash) materialized for them by Babaji while discussing their
problem with him. They felt very much relieved mentally, expecting their
problem to be resolved by Babaji shortly. We were quite amazed to witness
this.
Finally, our turn also came. We were taken in to meet Babaji and were
introduced to him. Hesitantly, for the first time in my life, I found myself
bowing down to touch his feet, spontaneously following the custom there!
My wife Madhu Malti, (called Madhu for short) followed suit. The only
times I had remembered to have touched someones feet earlier were those
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 11
of my mother, father and grandfather. We, too, sat near Babaji, close to where
Mr. and Mrs. Fqir Chand and Meera were sitting.
We were having casual chat on different topics in a light atmosphere. On his
enquiry, I informed Babaji that I was working with Mahindra & Mahindra
on their Jeep Manufacturing Project and was staying at Warden Road. Babaji
impressed us as a man of deep knowledge and with a good sense of humour.
Soon, it was dinner-time and we were all gathered together in the Drawing-
cum-Dining Room. Meera prepared the plate for Babaji and took it his room,
attending on him personally.
After dinner, the guests began to leave one by one, after going to the other
room, touching Babajis feet to pay respects and taking his leave. In the
meantime, Swarnaji, who happened to be Umang and Meeras friend, and who
were staying close to each others places along the Napean Sea Road, came
to inform us that Babaji had kindly accepted her invitation to visit her place
the following Saturday evening and requested us too to join her and have the
pleasure of receiving Babajis blessings there. We readily and gladly accepted
her generous offer.
After all the guests had left Umangs place, the rest of the family members
squatted near Babaji. He enquired about the health of the mother and father of
Meera. Both of whom were keeping good health, Then Babaji took out a small
packet of kumkum (sacred vermillion powder) from his bag and gave it to her
to regularly apply to her forehead; this made her feel very happy indeed.
Soon, it was time for Babaji to leave. We all paid respects to Babaji, touching
his feet. Umang brought Babajis shoes and helped him put these on. We all
accompanied him down in the lift and up to the taxi which was called for him.
He sat in the taxi; his bag was handed over to him and taxi left, nobody knowing
where to!
The function at Swarnajis place for the following Saturday was very much
similar to what we had witnessed at Umangs place. We had a welcome occasion
to sit near Babaji for a while and share some of his jokes. We learnt that Guru
Purnima (the full-moon night in July, auspicious for worshipping Guru) was
fast approaching and a special function had been organized that evening to pay
respects to Babaji at a hall in Sion, where all his devotees would be present and
receive his blessings. Umang and Meera were kind enough to make an offer of
taking us to the function and dropping us back.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 12

FIRST GURU PURNIMA
We reached the hall at Sion on Guru Purnima Day with Umang and Meera at
about 8-30 PM. There were already about 50 people seated on chairs in the hall.
The stage was well decorated with flowers. In the center was a table covered
with a neat table cloth, a flower vase and a special chair meant for Babaji.
On the right side of the stage there was a mattress on which three or four musicians
were singing melodious, lilting bhajans (devotional songs) accompanied by
musical instruments like harmonium and tabla.Soon, there was some stir in
the hall and people were seen getting up from their seats. We looked back and
saw Babaji entering the hall with folded hands and escorted by four or five
devotees, walking past the long aisle in the middle. They climbed up the steps
to the stage. Standing in front of the table, Babaji acknowledged the peoples
greetings, once again, with folded hands. One by one, those who had gathered
around him garlanded him, touched his feet and took their seats in the front row.
Some offered him bouquet of flowers. A girl devotee collected the garlands and
bouquet from Babaji and placed them on another table kept nearby.
Thereafter, the other devotees gathered in the hall came up the dais, one by one,
many offering garland and some offering bouquet; all of them touching his feet
and receiving his blessings and resuming their seats in the hall. By now, the
hall was full of around two hundred people. During this proceeding, we were
amazed to witness some of the ladies on touching Babajis feet swooned and
dropped on the floor. As we could not understand this phenomenon, we asked
Umang about it. He explained that these ladies happen to be overwhelmed with
emotion and devotion; and they literally go into a trance on touching Babajis
feet, possibly experiencing inner sublime bliss and continue to remain in the
stance while other devotees taok their turn. All the while, soft lilting music was
being played.
Then our turn came; we went up the dais, garlanded Babaji, touched his feet,
offered our pranams and returned to our seats. After everyone had duly paid
their respects to Babaji, he took his seat. Someone fetched cold drink for him
and placed it on the table. The girl standing behind Babaji in waiting also sat
down on the floor.
On the whole, we experienced serenity and blissful atmosphere around. It was
past-midnight and already around 1 AM. Those nine or ten ladies who went in
trance were still lying on the floor. Now, Babaji stood up, reached each one of
them, touched them and asked them to rise; they got up, some of them rubbing
their eyes, coming out of the stance and touched Babajis feet, feeling blissful
happiness, and returned to their seats in the hall.
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 13
Meantime, we were introduced to Mr. and Mrs. Patil and their daughter
Kalpana, all of whom had accompanied Babaji on their way to the hall. Mr.
Patil, we were told, was the Deputy Inspector General at Mahim Police Station.
We were also introduced to Mr. & Mrs. Pherwani, their son Moti and their
daughter Bhagwanti, staying at Sion. Mr. Pherwani told us that bhajan sessions
were held at his place every Purnima evening, which was graced by Babaji. He
cordially invited us to join them at his residence that day at 8-30 PM. Madhu,
being fond of music, readily accepted the invitation.
It was time for Babaji to leave. The Patil family and other devotees went up to
the stage to escort him. Babaji distributed some of the garlands and bouquets
among the devotees and climbed down the steps from the stage, He was led by
the devotees to a waiting car outside and, swiftly, he was gone. We were quite
happy to have our First Darshan of Babaji and were trying to understand his
occult powers.
During subsequent years, we had the opportunity of not only participating in
Guru Purnima functions but also at Babajis birthday celebration which fell on
the 25th January every year. These functions were held at different venues.
At one such birthday function, Madhu got a big surprise. After partaking
Babajis prasad he presented her with Shiv Puran, a complete legendary epic
of Lord Shiva, and advised her to read it carefully so that she could derive
unique joy.
Later, when Babaji was at our place on one evening, he also advised Madhu
to visit nearby Shiva Temple every Monday of Shravan month (usually falling
between the period from mid-July to mid-August) and perform puja there,
worshipping Shivling by offering milk, water, belpatra leaves and flowers,
whereby she would be blessed in every way. She has been religiously performing
the ritual ever since, to her great satisfaction.

OTHER DEVOTEES EXPERIENCES
The following Guru Purnima evening we were at Mr. Pherwanis place at
about 9 PM and Moti was there to greet us and soon he was joined by his
sister Bhagwanti, who escorted us to the inner courtyard where about a dozen
devotees were sitting on the floor laid with mattresses covered with thin white
sheets; bhajans were being sung by some of the devotees. Bhagwanti was a
very jovial person, easily making everyone feel quite at home. We, too, sat
down along with the other devotees.
The courtyard was converted into a shamiana (a think canvas covering the top).
There were garlanded pictures of Sri Sathya Sai Baba and Sri Shirdi Sai Baba,
placed in the middle of a decorated table kept on one side of the courtyard. Kept
there was a chair covered with velvet cloth and a matching pillow placed near
the center table, meant for Dr. Babaji.
After a while, Babaji arrived. He was received by Bhagwanti and Moti. Moti
respectfully removed his shoes and escorted him to his chair. The bhajans
stopped. Everyone got up as a mark of paying respect to Babaji. Moti and
Bhagwanti were the first to greet Babaji and touch his feet, followed by the
Pherwani couple. Thereafter, the other devotees took their turn one by one to
proceed to Babaji, did pranams and touched his feet. We noticed that some of
the devotees lingered a bit longer, holding Babajis feet silently in anticipation
of receiving his blessings; as if, soliciting solution to their problems. Babaji
had to bend down to pat their back as an indication of showering his blessings
and allowing them to resume their seats. By now, the courtyard was full with
additional twenty or more devotees arriving.
Thereafter, Babaji took his seat. Bhagwanti placed a glass of cold drink on his
table. The bhajans resumed. Babaji seemed to be relaxed, enjoying the bhajan
singing. The whole atmosphere was charged with serenity. Moti and
Bhagwanti requested Madhu, too, to sing a bhajan. After a bit of hesitation,
she did render a song, in chorus with some other devotees. Her singing was
appreciated by everyone, including Babaji who seemed to be very pleased at
it. Later, Moti and his colleagues also rendered the famous jhoolelal bhajan
with great gusto, with all the assembled devotees joining in chorus whole
heartedly.
A little while later, Babaji got up and he was escorted by Bhagwanti to the inner
room reserved for interviews, where he was offered a seat specially made for
him. Bhagawanti seemed to know almost all the devotees present, some of their
problems and those who would want to seek interview with Babaji. She was

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 15

indeed Babajis messenger and started calling the devotees with their families,
one by one, into the interview room as per Babajis instructions.
The devotees sitting in the courtyard then had a chance of sharing their
experience about Babaji. We were quite amazed to know some of their
stories. We learnt that Babaji was a full-fledged doctor, with MD and FRCS
qualifications, endowed with miraculous healing powers and had cured many a
devotee of their problems with his medicaments or vibhuti. Also, he had helped
many in solving their worldly problems. Nobody seemed to know much about
Babajis background where he lived, where did he come from or how old he
is. Some guessed him to be around 75 or 80 years old, though he looked much
younger!
All along, a quiet and leisurely atmosphere prevailed. Babaji seemed to be in
no hurry to solve devotees problems; he listened to them at length in a lighter
mood, interspersed with his jokes, making the solution to be simple and the
devotees feel lighter. The devotees sitting outside also seemed to be in no hurry
and kept waiting patiently for their turn to come. We found that the each family
going in was with Babaji for at least fifteen minutes or even half an hour.
While all this was going on in the interview room, Bhagwanti brought for
Babaji a plate of supper, serving him with devotion. Babaji partook of the food
with leisure, while continuing to talk to the devotees.
Soon we realized that it was midnight. We wondered when our turn would
come. We were curious to know more about Babaji and how he could solve
anyones problems. We pleaded with Bhagwanti to let us go in early and she, in
her usual cheerful style, advised patience!
Finally, our turn did come. We went in, touched Babajis feet and sat down. We
were completely at peace, in an atmosphere of exclusive presence of Babaji. He
talked about various topical matters in a light mood, making us feel completely
at ease. We asked him as to how he acquired all his miraculous powers whether
he had a guru and had to do a lot of tapasya (penance). He said that he indeed
had a very great truly realized guru and that he had to undergo a lot of tapasya;
but, he said that he would not be able to tell us more about his guru or the
tapasya. Madhu mentioned that she sometimes got pain in her legs; he assured
her that he would give her vibhuti which would relieve her of her problem. As
we did not have anything
more to ask, the interview ended, we did our pranams and came out.
This, our very first exclusive time spent with babaji made a lasting impression
on us and we decided to join the bhajans at Pherwanis place as often as we
could!

MATERIALIZATION OF VERMILION
It was around the year 1970 that, all of a sudden, some misunderstanding arose
about me in the mind of my boss, with whom there had been very cordial
relation for a long time ever since my joining the organization and I could
never imagine that he could mean any harm to me. When the situation did not
seem to be improving, it became a cause for anxiety not only for me but even
for Madhu.
One evening, Madhu suggested that we should take Babajis advice in the
matter. So, the next time when we were at Moti Pherwanis place for Guru
Purnima bhajans, we broached the subject to Babaji. He suggested that we
should meet him at a devotees place on the Queens Road, after a couple of
days.
When we reached there at the appointed time and day, we were led by the
hostess to Babajis room. He was alone, sitting on a sofa, sipping a cold drink.
We touched his feet and sat down. Gradually, the problematic situation in my
office came up and I explained to Babaji the entire episode. He listened to
everything I said very calmly and in good humour, as always, as if there was no
problem at all. He assured me that there was no reason for any anxiety or worry
and that everything would work out to be alright; and that I should continue to
do my best.
While we were talking to Babaji, he closed his eyes several times, as if going
into deep meditation. Suddenly, we found him lifting his trousers near the
right ankle and gently rubbing his right palm on the calf for a while. Lo and
behold, some kumkum (vermillion powder) materialized in his right palm. He
opened his brief case with his left hand, took out a piece of cheese-paper from
it and collected the kumkum on it. He applied a little bit of the kumkum on
my forehead and then folded the cheese-paper neatly, took out another small
piece of glazed maroon gift-paper and wrapped the kumkum packet into it. He
handed me the packet with instructions that I should keep it at the poojaalter
and apply it every day on my forehead after bath; that would help me and
remove my anxiety of any sort.
With the kumkum packet placed at the pooja-alter and the ritual of applying
kumkum on the forehead every day, whatever anxiety we had seemed to vanish
straightaway. We did feel very much lighter and happy thereafter. We profusely
thanked Babaji.
We were very much desirous of inviting Babaji to our place one day and bless
our home. Hesitatingly, we extended a cordial invitation to him one day and
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 17
he was gracious enough to accept the same. The date and time were fixed.
He wanted me to pick him up from Mr. Patils place at around 6 PM on the
appointed day. We felt very happy at the prospect of Babaji visiting our home.
Very shortly, we took his leave and returned home.
In the time to come, by the blessings of Babaji and with the Grace of God, the
situation at my office took such a turn that it culminated in my taking premature
retirement, all of which worked out for the better and which, ultimately, yielded
for us much more contentment and satisfaction in every way.

BABAJI VISITS OUR HOME

We were quite excited about Babjis visit to our home and were eagerly looking
forward to it. We provided a sofachair, neatly covered with a cloth, in our
pooja-room for him to sit and placed a small table near it for serving him with
some food or drinks. We also made suitable arrangements for the invitees to sit
around.
We had extended invitations to the Mathurs, the Pherwanis, Sunita Madhus
sister, her husband, Maheshwar Dayal (the man in charge of construction of
Tarapur Atomic Power Plant for the Atomic Energy Commission) who was
staying quite close to our place at Anand Bhawan on Warden Road, and some
other devotees on the occasion of Babajis visit to our home and have his
darshan followed by meals thereafter.
On reaching Patilss place at Dadar at the appointed time, we were received by
Mrs. Patil, a very pious and devout lady, and her charming, well-accomplished
daughter Kalpana. After a brief chat, Kalpana took us to Babajis room. We did
our pranams and sat down.
After a while Babaji was ready to go with us. I picked up his bag, took leave of
the Patils and brought him to our home.
At ours, I took off Babajis shoes and escorted him to our pooja-room and
respectfully made him take the special seat reserved for him. After garlanding
him and offering our pranams, we sat near him. Madhu fetched a glass of cold
drink for him and placed it on the table. Soon, the Mathurs, Moti, Bhagwanti,
Mrs. Pherwani and other devotees also arrived, they offered pranams to Babaji
and sat near him. Babaji was in a jovial mood and exchanged views on current
affairs. Meeras parents wanted to ask something to Babaji, as such we left
them with him and we moved out to the drawing room.
Soon, dinner was announced. Madhu prepared the plate for Babaji and served
him. After dinner, all of us were with Babaji again in a blissful atmosphere.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 18

Babaji was pouring his wisdom in his usual subtle manner, telling us short
stories or incidents in good humour. (Some of these are included in this book).
It was past 11 PM now. It was time for him to leave and requested us to fetch
a taxi for him. The taxi was brought and Babaji was gone, the Pherwanis
accompanying him. It was a very memorable evening for all of us to cherish.
The Mathurs, Sunita and Maheshwar also left thereafter.
After this first visit, we had invited Babaji on several different occasions to our
place. He, too, used to ring us up to say that he would be visiting us and meet
some of his other devotees. All this gave us a very pleasant and happy time.

MATERIALIZATION OF SHRI GANESH IDOL

While at Moti Pherwanis place for one of the Poornima bhajan session, Mr.
Lala, my colleague at office, informed us that Babaji had very kindly accepted
his invitation to visit their home the following Saturday and had invited us,
too.
On reaching his place in Bandra, we found that Babaji had already arrived. The
hall was nearly full and bhajans were already in progress. Maheshwar, Sunita
and their daughter Abha had also accompanied us. We offered our pranams to
Babaji and sat down. Madhu and Sunita were accommodated
in the front as they were also expected to lead the bhajan singing.
After a while, Madhus turn came to sing. During the entire bhajan session,
the atmosphere was charged with devotion. Babaji decided to proceed to the
adjacent room and take a seat there. After Madhus bhajan was over, she was
called by Babaji in the adjacent room; meantime, the bhajans were going on in
the hall.
Suddenly, we, sitting in the hall, heard a loud sound and wondered what it was
! Madhu came out of the room to tell the hostess, Mrs. Lala, that Babaji had
requested for a silver dish, a jug of water, a napkin, some kumkum and
grains of rice, all of which she carried to Babaji. After a while, I was also called
into the inner room.
I saw Babaji seated in his chair, holding the silver dish on which there was a
block of ice, about 6x3x3 inches in size, partially melted. The room was dimly
lit, full of very soothing chandan (sandalwood) fragrance. I also sat down near
Madhu.
Babaji told us that Madhu was very blessed. This particular block of ice had
come from the distant Hindukush Mountain, waiting for this moment for its
contents to be given to her! We asked, Babaji, what did it contain? He said,
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 19
youll soon see. We were indeed quite curious and excited. Gradually, the ice
melted. We saw a beautiful Ganesh moorti (idol) emerging from it, anointed
with sandalwood paste and smeared with flower petals which were withered
away with passage of time! Now, the fragrance of chandan and the flowers had
spread with more intensity, making the whole atmosphere sublimely blessed
indeed. Babaji washed the idol with water and wiped it clean with the napkin.
The idol revealed its pristine allure and shine. Babaji explained that the idol
was made of panch-dhatu (five metals). He then placed it back into the silver
plate and worshipped it, applying chandan tilak (dot) on the forehead of the
idol, showered some kumkum and rose-petals on it. He closed his eyes for
a while, as if offering a prayer, before handing it over to Madhu, telling her
that we should now regularly worship it, do proper seva (devotional service)
and look after it with care. What seva, Babaji? we asked. He told us that
we should carefully bathe it with water every morning, apply chandan tilak
on its forehead and worship with flowers. That is easy. we said. He further
instructed that the water should be well-water only and not the tap-water or
sea-water, as well-water is more pure. He proceeded to tell us that this Ganesh
moorti would protect us and look after us in every way as long as we took good
care of it. Along with these instructions, he also sounded a word of warning:
that the moorti should not be let loose or fall from our hands, it does not matter
if it slips and falls in its place but it should not fall on the floor!. He then gave
the moorti to Madhu. We were indeed very happy and blessed. We offered our
pranams to Babaji and thanked him, assuring him that we would certainly take
good care of it.
Babaji also advised us that we should conduct special pooja and offer prasad to
Ganeshji on every chauth (4th day after the new-moon day) and on sankashti
(4th day after the full-moon day) as these days are considered to be auspicious
for Ganeshjis worship.
Then Babaji called Mrs. Lala and told her about the materialization of the
prasadi (a Divine gift of the Ganesh moorti) for us and requested her to arrange
a table in the hall to install the moorti so that everyone can have darhsan (view
it with reverence) of it.
Soon, a table was placed in the hall. Babaji came back to the hall and took his
seat. Madhu brought the silver plate with the Ganesh moorti and placed it on
the table. Babaji told everyone about Madhu being blessed with the wonderful
Ganesh moorti and requested everyone to offer pranams to it. So, one by one,
everyone came, took a close look at the moorti, bent down in reverence and
placed a flower on the moorti as a mark of worship.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 20

While devotees were busy with the ritual, Madhu narrated yet another great
surprise and a miracle she had witnessed before all this happened! She said that
as she was entering the room where Babaji was seated, she was wonderstruck
to see a lighted-flame on Babajis right palm without any oil or wick! Babaji
had asked to offer pranams to the jyoti (flame) and asked her to tell him her
mothers name. Then he had asked her to sit down and close her eyes. Soon
thereafter, she heard a loud sound and when she opened her eyes she saw block
of ice held by Babaji in his hand.
Dinner was announced. Babaji was escorted into the adjacent room where Mrs.
Lala served him with the food. The others helped themselves. We happened to
be the center of attraction, with everyone eager to know more
about the materialization of the prasadi. Even for Maheshwar and Sunita it was
hard to believe what they saw and heard! But it was all so very true and real.
After dinner, Babaji decided to leave. Mr. and Mrs. Lala and few other devotees
went down with Babaji to see him off. We, too, headed for home on taking leave
of our hosts. Back at our home, with great reverence, we placed the moorti on
our pooja altar.
To this very day, we have continued to perform daily pooja of the Ganesh moorti,
as instructed by Babaji, feeling greatly blessed with the Grace of Ganeshji as
we are being looked after in every way and all along. For this, we are short of
words to thank the Almighty!

WITH BABAJI AT TARAPUR

Gradually, we came to know of some more of Babajis devotees who were
especially blessed by him and for alleviating some of their difficulties. On
special occasions, some of these devotees had also invited us to their homes.
One such devotee, possibly a South Indian, living in the Grant Road precincts,
had organized a special pooja and where we, too, were present. At that function,
we were surprised to find Babaji dressed in dhoti (traditional Indian attire)
performing the pooja.
Yet another couple we had met was the Kamats, staying in Girgaum area and
was also blessed with a large Ganesh moorti. They had invited us as well as
Maheshwar, Sunita, Patils and a few other devotees to their place for dinner one
evening. Soothing bhajans were sung in their large pooja room, followed by
dinner. All of us enjoyed the evening in the presence of Babaji, in a spiritually
charged atmosphere.
During this span of time, Maheshwar was transferred to Tarapur as the

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 21

superintendent of Tarapur Atomic Power Plant. He and Sunita were keen that
Babaji paid a visit to their new spacious bungalow situated in lush green open
surroundings, when Maheshwars parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. Dayal would also
be with him. That would also provide an opportunity for their small children,
Dinesh, Abha and Somi to get an exposure to spirituality at an early age. Babaji
was kind enough to accept their invitation and it was decided that we drive him
to Tarapur one Saturday morning.
It was a memorable drive with Babaji to Tarapur. We were kept well amused
all through the journey by Babajis humour. On the way, near Dahanu, he
showed us a temple where he was invited a few years ago for installation and
pran-pratishtha (consecration) of Ganesh moorti. He told us that during the
ceremony there, copious vibhuti (sacred ash) had materialized, filling the entire
floor with vibhuti.
One arrival at Tarapur, Babaji was greeted with garland, aarti and pooja by
Sunita. The Guest Room was tastefully decorated with flowers and was well
furnished for Babajis comfort. As always, Babaji was very relaxed and seemed
to enjoy the serene green surroundings. He chatted with the family for a while.
After lunch, he rested in his room for some time. In the evening, Maheshwar-
Sunita and Mr. and Mrs. J. Dayal spent some exclusive time with Babaji in his
room. Maheshwar had mentioned to me that of late his
father, who had recently retired as the Financial Commissioner and as a member
of the Railway Board, had developed a peculiar pain in the head which troubled
him at times and the prescribed medicament was not providing him with much
relief. That is why they had thought of having Babajis advice in the matter.
Babaji, we were told, informed Mr. J. Dayal and Maheshwar that the pain was
due to some of the brain cells getting disturbed for which some relief could be
provided with the vibhuti he gave and the prayers, but complete cure would be
difficult. Later, Babaji granted interviews to some of Maheshwars colleagues
and friends in the colony.
Next morning, it was a pleasant experience for the family to sit with Babaji for
tea; and later, for some time, to be on the spacious green lawn. Soon, it was
time for us to return to Bombay. Everyone bid pranams to Babaji and we were
back on the road to Bombay.

FAQIR CHANDS PEACEFUL DEMISE
Meeras father, Mr. Faqir Chand was an ardent devotee of Babaji. He had
developed some heart problem but remained always cheerful under Babajis
care. Babaji would always go to meet him at Meeras place whenever he
requested him.
One evening, we got a call from Umang that Mr. Faqir Chand suddenly had
a massive heart attack and passed away a short while ago. We rushed to his
place.
On reaching there, we learnt that Babaji had already arrived and was with the
body in the other room. We enquired if we could also pay our last respects to
the noble departed soul. Umang took to the room.
On entering the room, we glanced at Mr. Faqir Chands deceased body and saw
his face peacefully smiling, resting majestically on the floor, all covered with
fresh beautiful large marigold flowers, filling the whole room with fragrance;
and Babaji was sitting on a chair close to the body. We touched Babajis feet and
offered our condolences to the Chand family. Babaji told us: Faqir Chand was
indeed a very noble soul; the fresh flowers you see on the body have actually
been showered from the Heaven and he had seen Yamraj (God of Death) who
had come in a chariot to take away the blessed noble soul a little while ago!
This was also witnessed by Umang, Meera and her mother.
It was a divine farewell indeed to a noble soul. The whole atmosphere was
serene and peaceful. Soon, the panditji (priest) came to perform the necessary
rituals invoking eternal peace for the departed soul. All the relations and the
friends accompanied the body to the cremation ground and it was consigned
to flames, with the chanting of vedic hymns. We wonder to this day as to how
many humans could be so noble and pious to be granted such a divinely unique
and blissful end.

VISITOR FROM MOSCOW
One day we were surprised to receive a call from a Russian gentleman, who
said that he was on a visit to Mumbai for a few days and his friend in Moscow
had told him about a very spiritual person called Dr. Babaji in Mumbai whom
he would very much like to meet; he requested if we could help him arrange this
meeting. I told him that I would try to contact Babaji and would certainly help
him if he agrees, and told the gentleman to contact us the next day morning.
Fortunately, we got Babaji on the phone number he had given us. He said that
we could bring the Russian to Mr. Patils place the following afternoon.
When the Russian arrived at our place the next day, we found him to be a
young man, keen to learn about spirituality. He told us that he was working
for the Russian Government in Moscow and expressed that his meeting with
Babaji should be kept secret and should not be revealed to anyone. This gave
us the impression that talking about religion or spiritual matter was not being
encouraged in Russia.
Anyway, we took him to Babaji, sharing some of our spiritual experiences with
him on the way.
He was with Babaji for about an hour and appeared to be quite happy when he
came out. He told us that Babaji answered all his queries to his satisfaction and
had also materialized vibhuti for him.
Subsequently, we dropped him at the Taj Hotel where he was staying.

SCALPEL-LESS SURGERY
Babaji was at our place one evening and had told us that one of his devotees
from Pune would be coming to our place along with some of his relations. This
devotee had some abdominal problem which the doctors were unable either to
diagnose or find a cure. Therefore, Babaji had decided to operate on him at our
place; and that we should arrange for a clean table-cloth placed on our dining
table for him to lie down for the operation and also provide soap and a clean
towel in the bathroom.
We could hardly believe Babaji operate on the person at our place. So, we
asked him: But how, Babaji? He said: You wait and see thats all. Only
keep everything ready.
The next afternoon the party arrived; a young man with his wife and a couple
of relations. We arranged the room as instructed and made them feel at home,
offering them cold drinks. In the meantime, Babaji also came. He chatted with

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 24

them for a while, sipping his drink. Babaji told Madhu to light the deepak and
bring some cotton. Then the patient was asked to lie down on the table. Madhu
was asked to standby and assist him, while I went to my room.
Almost an hour later, we were asked to go into the dining room, where the
scalpel-less surgical interference was completed. Madhu told us that the
patient had complained about certain pain behind his ear and Babaji used just
his fingers to cut open the location and close it. We saw the patient comfortably
sitting on the sofa, not showing any sign of pain or suffering. The relations
expressed their whole-hearted gratitude to Babaji. We offered tea and snacks to
everyone. Soon, thereafter, the party left for Pune.
A Series of Surgical Miracles
Similar operation was performed on Naresh, Maheshwars brother, who was
in the Indian Foreign Service, posted in Delhi. He used to visit Mumbai on
several occasions while on official duty and had a chance to meet Babaji at
our place. He, too, had some abdominal problem which often troubled him
and for which the medicament was not found to be quite effective. Babaji had
performed operation on him, too, at one of the devotees place at Bandra. We
were told that Naresh was relieved of the suffering after the operation.
Yet another operation I had the good fortune to witness was the one performed
by Babaji on Kitty bhabhi (sisterin- law). My cousin brother, Bishan Dada was
posted in Mumbai for some time and was staying at Napean Sea Road. Bhabhiji
had stone in gallbladder, which had troubled her quite a bit; and the doctors
were unable to diagnose the ailment properly. Babaji had assured her that he
could perform painless operation on her and which would provide her great
relief. After certain deliberations, Bhabhiji and Bishan Dada agreed to it. The
date and the venue at a friends place on Napean Sea Road were fixed and we
were asked to be present. On that day, a havan (sacrificial-fire accompanied by
vedic chants) was also to be performed by a pundit at that place.
On the fixed day, we escorted Babaji to the place. The havan was going on.
Bhabhiji was quite excited about the whole situation. Everyone offered pranams
to Babaji. After a while, Babaji washed his hands nicely with soap and asked
Bhabhiji to lie down on the improvised operation table and close her eyes. Only
I was asked to remain in the room to assist Babaji.
Then Babaji closed his eyes for a while in prayers. Bhabhijis abdominal region
was exposed. Babaji moved his bare hand across the region, which opened up
on its own. There, he probed the region and took out the stone gently with his
hands. There was hardly any blood oozing. He placed the stone on a napkin,
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 25
gently passed his hand over Bhabhijis abdominal region a couple of times and
the open portion got patched up on its own! A little while later, Babaji asked
Bhabhiji to get up. She got up with a smile, as if coming out of a trance. Babaji
asked her as to how she was feeling. She said she was fine. Babaji showed her
and everyone the diseased stone taken out of her body and assured her that she
would be alright now. I helped Bhabhiji to get down the table and escorted her
to the room where havan was going on and where everyone else were present.
Babaji brought the diseased stone to the havan room and consigned it to the
holy fire.
Everyone watched all this in amazement and had all sorts of questions to ask.
Tea and refreshments were served. Later, Babaji asked for a taxi to be called for
him; and we dropped Bishan Dada and Bhabhiji at their place.
Another case of Babajis concern for the health of his devotees was that of
Shanti Bhua (Madhus aunt). She also had stomach problem which could not be
diagnosed and treated properly for a long time. Even Babajis vibhuti
packets provided only partial relief. So, Babaji, in consultation with his surgeon-
friend at Northcote Nursing Home decided in favour of surgical interference to
be performed by the friend. Babaji was present all through the operation, which
was successful and Shanti was relieved of her suffering.

MATERIALIZATION OF AMRIT FOR MY

FATHER
My father, Mr. Brij Govind Mathur (reverentially called Dadaji) had retired from
the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) as Superintending Engineer and
was later on for a few years was working as Technical Assistant to the Chief
Engineer, Rajasthan Public Works Department. He was a true vedantic scholar
and a karma-yogi, though he was not inclined to performing regular pooja as
such. He used to visit us in Mumbai during summers. We had very
pleasant time while he was with us and we enjoyed discussing various religious
and spiritual topics with him.
He had many sessions with Babaji at our place, discussing different topics of
interest. Father used to say that he had acquired all the spiritual wisdom and he
looked forward to having direct contact with the Divinity. He also prayed that
he maintained good health, so as not to be a burden to anyone.
One evening, when Babaji was with us, sitting in the bedcum- pooja room as
usual, discussing topics of common interest, Babaji suggested that he would
like go to the Drawing Room as he wanted to be with Dadaji for a while.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 26

Soon, we were also called in the Drawing Room; and what did we see? Dadaji
holding a glass tumbler full of some liquid! Babaji was telling Dadaji that that
was a glassful of amrit (nectar) descended from Heavens and meant for him to
maintain good health. Dadaji was quite amazed and delighted. Babaji wanted
Dadaji to drink the liquid. Tasting it, Dadaji said that it was a like a nectarine
fresh fruit juice which he cherished. Babaji told him drink it very slowly and
fully enjoy it. Madhu and I pleaded if we could
also have a sip and taste the nectarine juice? Babaji said, to our utter
disappointment: No! It is meant only for Dadaji and not for anyone else.
Later, Babaji told Dadaji that he could use the empty glass for drinking water.
But he laid down a condition that he should wash the glass himself daily and let
no one else handle or use it. This was rather too much for Dadaji as in his life
he had probably never washed any utensils. So, Dadaji expressing his difficulty
suggested if I could keep and wash and use the glass instead. Babaji readily
agreed. He said that I could certainly use it in case of my having some ailment
and that would help in restoring health.
To this day, therefore, this Divine glass has been my most prized possessions,
keeping alive the memory of Dadaji, Babaji and that eventful evening!

MATERIALIZATION OF DIAMOND ON
MADHUS BIRTHDAY
It was the 20th April, in the year probably 1975. Madhu was thrilled to get
Babajis phone call that he would be visiting us that evening. Madhu wished
that he should also have dinner with us.
The doorbell rang at about 8-30 PM. Madhu opened the door and was delighted
to see Babaji there. Welcoming him, she made him comfortable in the pooja
room and offered him cold drink.
We sat near Babaji. He was in a lighter mood, talking on topics of common
interest, as usual. On learning that that day it was Madhus Birthday, he
congratulated her and wished her happiness. Now, it was dinner time and
Madhu attended on him while I was sitting next to him.
After the two of us having had dinner, we were with Babaji once again. He
was in a meditative mood for a while and asked Madhu to offer him pranams.
While she was getting up, we saw that Babajis hand was shaking slightly and
suddenly a bright sparkling diamond materialized in his hand! He told Madhu
that that was a Birthday Gift for her. Madhu was quite amazed and thrilled at it
and heartily thanked Babaji for it.
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 27
Babaji told her that she should keep it safely till he tells her to get it embedded
in a white-metal or a silver fingerring which she should wear daily except
on Tuesdays and Saturdays for her self-protection and maintaining peace of-
mind.
It was only after about three years that Babaji told her that the time had come
for her to get the precious diamond embedded into a finger-ring for her to wear
it regularly.
So, we took the diamond to our known jeweler at the earliest opportunity.
When we showed it to him, he had a good look at it and said that it was indeed
a unique piece, extremely pure and very precious. When we asked him to guess
its value, he said it was just not possible for him to do so in as much as the stone
given by a saint was priceless! Anyway, we selected a silver-ring and asked him
to embed it with the divine diamond.
To this day, Madhu has been wearing this diamond-studded finger-ring regularly
and delightfully, as instructed, as a talisman and as a token of Blessing from
Babaji.

APPEARANCE OF PRIMORDIAL
DIVINE TINY BIRD
Early in 1960, at a party given by Mr. P.N. Mathur of ACC at his residence
in Santacruz, we met Mr. Dasgupta who impressed us as a very well-read
person, interested in spiritual matters. He talked about his having recently read
Autobiography of a Yogi by Swami Yoganand, a book which ought to be read
by anyone who is interested in spirituality.
He was kind enough to lend us that book. Having read the book, I must say that it
helped us immensely in getting some idea about the existence of unique spiritual
world yonder and the importance guru-kripa (saintly preceptors blessings). He
also told us that we must meet Mr. Ranjit Madhavji and his mother, who were
staying in Babulnath Temple Lane near Chowpaty, as they had studied Bhrigu
Samhita, a text by Saint Bhrigu centuries ago written on palm leaves, predicting
the kind of life people would live during the generations to come.
When we met Ranjitbhai, we found him to be deeply religious person who got
interested in Bhrigu Samhita, learning about it from his friends. His mother,
Mataji, also deeply impressed us as a very gracious lady, full of devotion and
mostly remaining engrossed in pooja.
Ranjitbhai narrated in vivid details about his first visit with a friend to a Pandit,
in Hoshiarpur, Punjab, who used to read out portions of Bhrigu Samhita to those
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 28
few who happened to go to him during certain hours of the day. Ranjitbhai said
that he was wonderstruck and thrilled to hear his own life history from the
Pandit, accurate to such an extent that it described his visit as not coming alone
but along with his friend, who at that time was waiting downstairs, eating a
banana! Ranjitbhai said that he was astonished to hear this from the Pandit and
just to verify and satisfy his curiosity, he did go down only to find that his friend
was indeed there and was eating a banana!
Ranjitbhai mentioned that he visited Panditjis place several times thereafter
and had the good fortune to receive prophetic predictions from the Pandit. He
said that he had installed a large picture of Bhrigu Rishi in his drawing room
and worshipped the Saint religiously.
Ranjitbhai and Mataji became our good friends and learning from us about Dr.
Babaji, they were keen to meet him. So, a meeting was arranged at our place.
Thereafter, on several occasions, they continued to meet him. Ranjitbhai owned
the Hamilton Studio at Ballard Estate. In 1970, he had some property dispute
about the studio, and which created botheration both for him and Mataji. One
day, Ranjitbhai rang us up to say that he wanted to meet Babaji. So, Babaji
agreed to meet him a couple of days later at our place one evening when all of
us were together.
Now, Babaji wanted to be left alone with Ranjitbhai and Mataji and we were
asked to wait in the other room. After a while, we heard a loud sound and
wondered what it was. Soon, Madhu was called in. she was surprised to find
Babaji holding a block of ice in his hands! He told her that it was a prasadi
(heavenly gift) meant for Mataji and asked for a silver plate and a deepak (unlit
lamp with wick and oil). Later, I was also called in.
Babaji placed the ice block in the silver plate and kept it on the writing table
located on the opposite side. He lighted the deepak and placed it next to the
plate. What is inside the ice block? We all curiously asked him. All that he
said hilariously was: You wait, and see. As such, all of us patiently waited,
just gossiping.
It took quite some time for the ice block to melt down, certainly more than an
hour. Gradually, we could clearly see the form of a strange, beautiful, colourful
tiny bird holding something in its beak!. Babaji told us that it was a prehistoric
bird of the dinosaurs era. We were indeed lucky and thrilled to see it alive!
Babaji also told us its name, but we do not remember it. We were excited. The
little bird slowly opened its eyes and fluttered its wing slightly. Looking at the
occurring, the apprehension on Matajis face was clearly visible wondering
as to how she would be able to look after and take care of the small bird. Babaji
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 29
seemed to lightly allay her fear to some extent, saying that she could surely
find a good cage for it and feed it regularly, tending it lovingly and both sharing
good feelings; and that soon she would be famous, with everybody coming to
see the prehistoric tiny bird!
While we were talking, we could all clearly see the bird holding in its beak a
small crystal clear ball with a red dot inside it. This made us feel all the more
excited. When the excitement subsided a bit, Babaji wanted us to go to the
other room as he wanted to spend some time with the bird.
When we were called in after a while, we were surprised to find that the bird
had disappeared, leaving the crystal ball on the silver plate! Where is the tiny
bird, Babaji? we all asked him. Its gone from where it came! was the
simple reply.
Then Babaji asked Madhu to bring another silver plate and a clean napkin.
He wiped the crystal ball carefully and showed it to all of us. We found that
what appeared like a red dot inside the ball, was indeed a small flickering jyoti
(flame). Babaji explained that this was the akhand-jyoti (inextinguishable
everlasting flame) and that Mataji should worship it daily. That would give her
better peace of mind, good health and help her tide over her problems! Saying
this, he handed over the crystal ball with the napkin to her. She felt very happy
indeed and wholeheartedly thanked Babaji.
Soon, it was time for Babaji to leave and a taxi was called. All of us bid him
pranams and he was gone, leaving us in a state of bliss and the unforgettable
divine experience,

KING COBRA & INIMITABLE

PRECIOUS GEMSTONE
Mr. Jimmy Marfatia was the Master of our Research Masonic Lodge and all his
family, including Mrs. Frenny Marfatia and children Dinyar, Sammy, Beroj,
Kashmira and brother Cawsi were very close and dear friends of ours. Jimmy
and Frenny had heard about Dr. Babaji from us and had met him a few times
at our place.
One day, Jimmy rang us up and said that in his prayers that morning he was
directed to ring us up and ask for a meeting with Dr. Babaji about a problem
which had been bothering him for quite some time. Jimmy had a very precious
stone with him which was given to him by a very close friend before he passed
away, with a request that he should get its value assessed properly and upon
selling the stone distribute the proceeds equally among his three children, two
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 30
of whom were settled abroad. This request was made to avoid any possible
quarrel among the children about possessing the stone or sharing its value.
This was because Jimmys efforts in respect of the passing on the legacy of the
precious stone had not provided any satisfactory clue; and, perhaps, Dr. Babaji
could help him sort out the problem.
On contacting Babaji, he said that Marfatias could meet him when he visits us
next in a couple of days.
It was a pleasant evening when Babaji came to our place. We had informed
Marfatias about Babajis visit and they were already with us. While we were
sitting with Babaji, Jimmy explained to him in detail his predicament that none
of the jewelers to whom the stone was shown could say for sure as to what
kind of stone this was and what could be its value. He continued to tell us that
some thought it could be neelam (a precious blue gemstone), while others said
it could be nagmani, a very precious bright dark blue stone that the cobras are
known to carry on the top of their hood.
Babaji had a good look at the beautiful dark blue stone and said straightaway
that it was neither neelam nor nagmani but it was specie of a rare gemstone.
He told us the name but we do not remember it. He said that there were only
four or five types of stones of this kind in the world about which details can be
found in the Book of Gems! He further went on to mention that as far as he
remembered one such gemstone was with someone in Australia and another
with someone in England! He said he would check up about it and possibly
bring the book on his next visit to us.
Jimmy and Frenny were quite amazed and could hardly believe what Babaji
was telling. Jimmy seemed to believe that the stone was more likely to be
nagmani. Babaji said that if we did not believe in what he was telling then
he would like to prove his point; and, therefore, he wanted us to go into the
other room while he kept the stone with himself. He requested Madhu to light
up another deepak (lamp) and agarbatti (incense stick) and keep them on the
writing table and leave the room.
While we were in the drawing room, we suddenly heard some kind of tussle in
the bed-cum-pooja room where Babaji was sitting. As I got a bit apprehensive,
I rushed out of the bedroom and as I was about to enter poojaroom, Babaji
suddenly opened the door. I was shocked and surprised to see a king cobra
wrapped around Babajis body with Babaji holding its head in his right hand!
Babaji then quickly pushed the deepak away, which fell right on the floor of the
other room and he promptly closed the door. I asked Babaji if everything was
alright; he said: Yes, Nothing to worry about. And he asked me to go back
into the drawing room.
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 31
Now, we in the drawing room were naturally somewhat afraid as to what must
be going on in the bed-cum-pooja room with Babaji alone there. After a while,
he opened the door and he wanted all of us to go in. we saw that Babaji was
calmly sitting in his chair and there was no trace of the cobra. Quite frightened,
we asked: Babaji, what happened? He said: Sit down all of you, Ill tell you
everything. Madhu fetched a glass of cold water for him
and we all sat down near Babaji.
Babaji explained that it was now proved that the stone was not a nagmani. And,
if that was indeed a nagmani, then the king cobra would have taken it away!
He had summoned the cobra just to prove it. We asked: But Babaji, why did
you have to push away the deepak from the room? Babaji said: Well, with the
deepak shining in the room the cobra was finding it difficult to go back where
it came from!
We were in a state of total amazement. Babaji told Jimmy that as per his
visualization, it would not be possible for him to dispose it off for the present.
Also, it would be difficult to say when it would be the right time to do it. All the
same, he would check more about it and let Jimmy know. Meantime, he gave
Jimmy the names of a couple of Jewelers in Jhaveri Bazar whom he could meet
for valuation of the gem.
The next time when Babaji came to our place, he had carried the Gemstone
Book which gave detailed account of various kinds of precious stones, as
described by Babaji. Marfatias were indeed quite happy and satisfied to learn
about the gemstones described in the printed book.
Babaji also told us that one of his devotees, Mr. Jayesh Sanghani, staying
in Matunga and having a printing press in an Industrial Estate there, was a
clairvoyant and in his trance he can answer any questions about the past or the
future and also write down the answers in any language! Babaji said that he
would like Jayesh also to give his perceptions in writing about the gemstone
Jimmy had and that he would bring Jayesh along with him when he visits us
next time in a few days.
It was our pleasure to meet Jayesh during Babajis next visit. He appeared to be
very simple and unassuming person. Marfatias were also with us. After a while,
Babaji asked Jayesh as to what he can tell about the gemstone. Jayesh closed
his eyes and started writing in English. What he wrote tallied with what Babaji
had already told us and what was given in the Book. Jayesh also wrote down
that the stone would not change hands for another few years and that there was
no point at present in getting it valued.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 32

Jimmy wanted me to accompany him to Jhaveri Bazar to meet the Jewelers as
advised by Babaji. On meeting the jewelers, they confirmed that this stone was
quite an unusual, extraordinary precious gem and since there would be hardly
any buyer in Mumbai, it was no use getting its price estimated!

DEPARTED KANTAS BLISSFUL
ASTRAL BODY
A Tragic Accident
17th June, 1974 was an ominous day. Late, that evening, we were surprised
to find Umang, Shivraj (Kittys Bhabhis brother) and O.P. (Om Prakash,
my brother-in-law) come to our place. They were looking rather sad. On our
enquiring as to what was the matter, Umang said: Chacha, we have sad news
for you. Tell us, what has happened we asked anxiously. Slowly, Shivraj
started telling us that he had a call from Delhi saying that Kanta, Madhus sister
and her husband, Rajinder Dayal, had a car accident at Shimla that morning
and that they were both seriously injured. What? Kanta and Rajinder in a car
accident and that, too, at Shimla? thats too shocking and couldnt be true. Yes,
thats true and both of their daughters, Dipika about 8 years old and Radhika
about 5 years were also with them. Dipika escaped with minor injuries whereas
Radhika sustained serious injuries. Both of them were with Rajinder and Kanta
at the hospital. Kantas condition was rather quite critical. The car had fallen
down in a valley, about 300 feet deep. Rajinder, with his injured leg, managed
to walk up to the road to look for help; and Dipika, all alone, was attending to
the injured with the help of some friends who were staying at The Mall. We
were indeed quite stunned and wanted to go to Shimla straightaway to be of
some help to the injured.
Rajinder was a very bright young engineer. He was working for the Western
Railway at Bombay for the past few years and was staying at Badhwar Park,
Cuffe Parade. We used to meet Rajinder and Kanta quite often and had a lot of
happy time together. Recently, he was lured to leave the Railways and take up
a lucrative job with a private firm in Delhi. They were happily settled in Delhi
and had decided to drive to Shimla for a brief holiday with the children. So,
suddenly learning about their serious car accident was quite a jolt for us.
Umang, in his benevolence and foresight, told us that he had already booked
us for the morning flight to Delhi and gave us the air tickets. He had also kept
aside some cash for us and which may be needed by us during the journey.
We asked: Have Papaji and Mummyji been informed at Dehradun about
the tragedy? Shivraj and O.P. said: Not to our knowledge. So, we rang up
Dehradun and gave them the tragic news. It was even a bigger shock for them
and they were quite broken down. We tried to console them and told them that
we were taking the morning flight to Shimla and we would provide them with
all the details once we are there.
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 34
On reaching Delhi by the morning flight, we took a taxi to Shimla and located
Rajinder and Radhika at the Hospital. We saw Rajinder, his face swollen up
with bruises, blackened eyes, head, arm and leg bandaged. We saw Radhika,
also, all bandaged with bruises and blood-spots on her dress. It was a shocking
sight, difficult to bear. Rajinder broke down looking at Madhu, with his
swollen eyes, said: We could not save your sister! Radhika, with her half open
eyes and attempting a smile, could only faintly say: Mosi. I nearly passed out
and found myself being supported by Madhu and a nurse. Another nurse was
kind enough to bring us some water and provided us with chairs. After a while,
Rajinder slowly tried to recall the incident. He said he was still in pain with
broken arm and leg.
In the mean time, Dipika came. Madhu embraced here and asked her how she
was feeling. She put up a brave face and said: Mosi, I am alright, I really
havent had the time to think about myself. It was really some consolation for
us to find Dipika not so much injured and being able to do the errands. She said:
Mummy was unconscious after the accident and passed away even before she
could reach the Hospital.
She described about how she walked up to an elderly person, Mr. Devi Chand,
who they had met while strolling along The Mall and made friends. He owned
a shop on The Mall and lived there with his family. She told him about the
accident; and he and his family have been most helpful in the whole ordeal. She
was even staying with them now. From their place, she could give the tragic
news to Prem Bhua (Rajinders sister) and Jackey at Delhi who had rushed to
Shimla and reached there by the evening. They were put up in a nearby hotel.
Grieved, as they were, at Kantas demise, when they consulted the doctors, they
were told that her body had already been cremated the previous evening.
Dipika suggested that we go to Mr. Devi Chands place, have a bite and some
rest. Later, we would go back to the Hospital in the evening and also meet Prem
Bhua and Jackey. We quite agreed. We found Dipika to be suddenly so very
grown up and responsible.
We found Devi Chands to be very warm and hospitable people. They made us
feel completely at home. From their place, we rang up Papaji at Dehradun and
informed him as well as Mummyji about Kanta, who could not recover from
her serious injuries and that she had breathed her last even before reaching
the Hospital. We also told them about the condition of the others who were
involved in the car accident. This indeed was a very great shock for them to
withstand. Knowing that it would be very difficult for them to bear the tragic
loss, all alone at Dehradun, we suggested that they should come to Bombay at
the earliest. They seemed to like the idea.
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 35
In the evening, we met Prem Jiji and Jackey at the Hospital. They said that they
would be staying at Shimla till Rajinder and Radhika were in a condition to
travel; and that they would be taking them back to Delhi. This was some relief
to us.
We spent another day with Rajinder, Radhila and Dipika, providing them as
much succor as we could and returned to Bombay the following day.
At Mumbai with Babaji
Back in Mumbai, it took us some time to recover from the tragedy. Mummyji and
Papaji had come down to Mumbai and were living with us. We took the earliest
opportunity to meet Babaji and apprised him of the tragic happening. Mummyji
was finding it hard to recover from the shock and kept on asking Babaji: Why
had it to happen? Kanta was so young, in the prime of her life and the children
are at a tender age. Who would look after them? How would Rajinder be able
to cope up with the situation? Babaji tried to console her, saying: Destiny
has to play its role and we have to learn to completely surrender to the Divine
Will. He also mentioned that he was in contact with Kanta and that she was
completely in peace and happy! Mummyji could hardly believe him.
Babaji visited us a couple of days thereafter. Again, there were the same
questions and anxieties. Babaji consoled Mummyji and Papaji that they should
not unduly grieve for Kanta. He told them that Kantas soul would not be able
to ascend to higher planes until they accept Gods Wisdom and
His ways of working and that they should pray for Peace to the departed soul.
Babaji said: Prabhu (God) would look after everyone and everything would
be alright. He also said that he would try if Mummy could see Kanta in her
usual happy and cheerful mood! Babaji had invited us to the Pran Pratishthha
(consecrating ceremony of an idol) and inauguration ceremony of Shirdi Sai
Mandir at a devotees place in Mahim after a few days. Babaji had been telling
us about this Mandir and his close involvement in selection, finishing and
installation of this particular Shirdi Sai moorti, which is as true to life as is the
moorti at Shirdi.
When we reached the mandir in the evening, a number of devotees were already
there and the bhajans were in full swing. Babaji was in an adjacent room.
We offered our pranams to Babaji and sat down. A little before the mahurat
(auspicious time), Babaji was escorted to the mandir and near to the moorti
where the pundits (priests) were performing the pooja and abhishek (bathing
the idol with ghee, honey, water and chanting vedic hymns). We also came
out to watch the ceremony. After the abhishek, Babaji did some prayers and
looked up. Suddenly, all of us heard a loud sound and could see Babaji holding
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 36
a few gemstones in his hand! He placed these gems and some flowers as an
offering to the Sai moorti. He also garlanded the moorti. Everyone applauded
in a burst of happiness. Arti (concluding special prayer) was sung and prasad
was distributed. Subsequently, Babaji returned to the room.
After Babaji and all of us had our prasad-dinner, we were with Babaji again in
the adjacent room. After a while, Babaji wanted Mummy and Papaji to be alone
with him. So, we went outside and joined the bhajan group.
Momentarily, we heard a sound, not as loud as the earlier one and wondered
what it was! Papaji came out and asked the host for a silver thali (plate) and
carried it in to the room. We, too, were called in.
We saw a block of ice on the silver thali which was placed on a small table in
front of Babaji. We were all amazed at the block of ice where did it come
from, all of a sudden, and what was in it! Babaji just said: Youll soon see; let
the ice melt. Its a prasadi for Mummji.
So, we waited patiently, enjoying the bhajans, which were going on in full
fervor in the other room, and which rendered the whole atmosphere sublimely
devotional. Soon, we realized that it was past 1 AM. The bhajans had
stopped and the devotees had started going home. And, the ice in the thali had
only half melted. I suggested to Babaji that since it would still take considerable
time for the ice to melt, and in order that we would not cause any inconvenience
to the hosts, it would probably be a good idea for us to go home, carrying with
us the thali with the iceblock in it. Babaji readily agreed, and he accompanied
us.
Upon reaching home, Papaji placed the thali on the center table in the Drawing
Room, while we all sat around. Gradually, we could see the form of a baby
cobra emerging from the ice! Mummyji felt the emergence a bit frightening.
Babaji started joking with her, telling her that there was nothing to be afraid
of and that after all it was a present for her from the Heavens she should get
a glass cage for it, feed it with milk every morning and evening; and that it
would be a good company for her! Mummy looked visibly more frightened and
pleaded to Babaji: No, Babaji, no. Please take it away!
By this time the ice had all melted. Now, the baby cobra was clearly visible,
wriggling and moving a bit. We could also see the serpent carrying a ring in its
tail. Babaji took off the ring, washed it a bit in water in the thali and put it on
Mummyjis finger, saying: Its a present for you. Wear it and it will keep you
happy. Mummyji managed a shy smile, her fright partly subsided, thanking
Babaji. Babaji then requested us to go to the other room.
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 37
After a few minutes, we heard Babaji calling for Papaji. So, Papaji came to
the drawing room, Mummyji following him. Babaji told Papaji: Look, here is
Kanta in the thali, looking so cheerful!. Papaji had a good look at it and so did
Mummyji. They called me and Madhu in excitement. I rushed to the drawing
room and was taken aback, seeing Kanta clearly in the thali with a smiling face,
trying to say something. By the time Madhu came, Kanta had already gone
and nothing was visible in the thali. The serpent had already gone earlier, even
before Papaji and Mummyiji had come to the drawing room.
We sat around Babaji, all stunned for a while. What we had witnessed was
completely unimaginable. But Mummyji seemed to be quite happy, all her
anxiety about Kanta having suddenly vanished.
Babaji was with us for a while, telling us about how Divinity works to help
his devotees. He said that he was merely His instrument. He also told me that
the water left out in the thali should be collected in a jug and poured out into
a well. It was already past 2-30 AM. I fetched a taxi for Babaji. We all offered
our pranams to him and he was gone!
During yet another visit of Mummyji and Papaji to our place in Bombay, Babaji
had blessed Mummyji again with a Devijis Pendent (a silver locket with deitys
replica) found in a block of ice, materialized by him, for her protection and
wellbeing!

APPEARANCE OF BABY KING COBRA TO

CHILDRENS DELIGHT
Sunita and her children, Abha and Somesh were with us for a few days on their
return from Paris on holiday. While exchanging all the news, we told them about
the instance when Babaji had summoned a King Cobra to testify the veracity
or otherwise of the precious stone Mr. Marfatia had. As also about the incident
when Babaji had summoned a baby cobra and materialized a finger ring for
Mummyji from the tail-end of the small reptile. Likewise, the astonishing event
when Babaji had shown us Kantas astral image in the silver thali. The children
were so very much wonder struck that were anxious to meet Babaji. So, Madhu
contacted Babaji and he agreed to be with us the following afternoon.
Madhu, Sunita and the children received Babaji on his arrival at about 4 PM.
That day, being a working day, I was still in my office. While Madhu was
serving tea for Babaji, Sunita and the children were telling Babaji about their
stay in Paris. In all amazement, the children asked Babaji: How could a cobra
come to you, Babaji, to check the nagmani and then suddenly disappear?

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 38

At this stage, Babaji asked everyone to close their eyes. When they were asked
to open the eyes, they were surprised to see a baby cobra playing with Babaji.
Then, Babaji placed the snake on the bed; and the small reptile started moving
slowly. Babaji told the children that they could touch it. However, the children
were too scared to go near it, forget about touching it.
Then Babaji held the baby cobra in his fingers and placed it in the pooja. The
children felt quite excited to see it resting, coiled around the deepak, with its
head raised! Babaji asked Madhu to bring some milk and offer it to the snake.
So, Madhu brought it in a dish and placed it in the pooja. To the wonder of all,
the snake drank it all up.
Babaji then asked everyone to go out of the room because the baby cobra had
to be sent back to its divine home in Divya Lok (Heavens), lest it gets lost and
confused in this earthly, materialistic world!
When everyone was called back into the room, they saw that the baby cobra
was gone, giving the children an unforgettable experience of the amazingly
divine world beyond!

MATERIALIZATION OF SHIV LINGAM

& NAG MANI
We had just returned from Puttaparthy, after witnessing the sacred Vibhuti
Abhishek and the Lingodbhava functions performed by Bhagavan Sri Sathya
Sai Baba on the auspicious day of Shivaratri. During the Vibhuti Abhishek in
the morning, Baba had materialized copious vibhuti pouring over the silver
idol of Shirdi Sai Baba by putting his hand inside an empty silver vessel which
was held over the idol by Professor N. Kasturi. Later, in the evening, when
the bhajans were in full swing, during the Lingodbhava ceremony, Baba had
materialized a beautiful Lingam (a phallic Divine symbol of the Absolute and
His Creation) from his mouth after some painful effort, as it seemed, throwing
thousands of His devotees assembled there in a spell of
ecstasy and awe.
When Babaji was with us at our place, soon after our return, we were telling
him about our trip to Puttaparthy during Shivaratri festivals and the Vibhuti
Abhishek as well as Lingodbhava functions performed by Sri Sathya Sai Baba.
We asked Babaji: How is a Lingam formed inside the body? And that even the
emergence of it from out of the mouth must be quite painful isnt it? Babaji
only mentioned: Its a normal phenomenon, not very painful.
Babaji then closed his eyes and seemed to be in a trance for a while. Then he
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 39
took out his handkerchief and, to our great surprise, a black lingam emerged
from out of his mouth and which he placed on the kerchief. He showed us the
lingam and asked us whether the lingam we saw at Puttaparthy was similar
to this. We told him: Yes, Babaji, it was very similar to this, maybe, a little
bigger. We were indeed very happy to get a chance to see, hold it and
feel the lingam so very closely. While at Puttaparthy, we could see the lingam
only from a distance. Then Babaji said: Did you see? It was not very difficult
at all Its a symbol of Shiva and the Creation. Its worship helps you realize
your inner desires.
Subsequently, Babaji asked me to sit down, with my eyes closed, praying to
Shivji. As I was thus praying, thanking God for what we had witnessed, I could
feel Babaji placing the lingam on my head with a little circular movement.
After a while, Babaji asked me to open my eyes. On opening my eyes, I found
myself in a wonderfully blissful state. I asked Babaji: Wheres the lingam?
Its gone! he said!
Having seen a lingam so very closely, we became rather curious. Talking
about the nagmani and the Marfatia episode, we wondered if nagmani, too,
looked somewhat like the lingam! Babaji said: No. It is quite different. Its
smaller, roundish, dark blue and shining. It is very rarely seen and is very
precious. Do you want to see it? he asked us. Surely, we could not resist the
temptation. Alright: said Babaji, and he again closed his eyes and seemed to
be in a meditative stance for a while. We noticed Babaji once again holding his
handkerchief to his mouth and, we saw a shining dark blue nagmani slowly
emerging out of his mouth! We could not believe our eyes.
Babaji said: Yes, this is the real nagmani. Have a good look at it. Isnt it exactly
as I told you? And, do you notice the tiny light inside? That is what gives it the
brightness you see. You all are extremely fortunate to have its darshan; as not
many people in this world would have seen it! We, indeed felt very, very
happy and fortunate.
After all this wonderful happening, Babaji placed back the nagmani into his
mouth and swallowed it! As we could remember, it just disappeared!
Later on, during the celebration of our Silver Wedding Anniversary, Madhus
parents had come from Dehradun. Some of the friends surprised us with their
presents, including a silver tray gifted by Sambhuda and Manjudi, and
a small silver dibya (casket) from Maya Narpat Singh.
We had invited Babaji that evening to bless us and also have dinner with us.
After dinner, we were telling Babaji as to how fortunate we felt for having
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 40
Mummy, Papaji and him with us on the happy occasion and showed him various
presents we had received. He seemed to be impressed by the silver casket given
by Maya and said that it should not remain empty. We could not understand
what he meant. Soon, he asked us to offer pranams to him and when we got up,
we were amazed to see a lingam emerging from out of his mouth! He placed the
lingam in the silver box. Then he materialized some vibhuti and poured it on
the silver box. Then he gave the box to me saying that I should keep it carefully,
perform abhishek (bathing it with milk, curds, honey and water) every year on
Shivratri Day and worship it. I have been following this strictly, as instructed,
to this day. That momentous evening with Babaji and the benevolence shall
always remain fresh in our memory!

COBRA WRAPS OVER BABAJIS

BODY SMEARED WITH VIBHUTI
During 1982, Babaji was with us one evening. Before leaving, he enquired
of us whether we were expecting some guests within the next few days. We
replied in the negative and inquired of him as to why was he asking this. He
said that if it was alright with us he would like to move in to our place for a few
days. With great pleasure, Babaji! we assured him. We considered it to be our
good fortune and we would do our best to make him comfortable.
After a few days, Babaji moved down to our place one afternoon, carrying his
small briefcase and a few bundles of some books. We knew that Babaji was a
voracious reader but were surprised to see him bring with him the collection of
those books. We welcomed him with a garland and a bouquet and escorted him
to a room arranged for his stay. We neatly placed his clothes in the cupboard and
placed some of the books on the top of it, as suggested by him. The remaining
books, I mentioned, could be set up later, on the top of the pelmets. Babaji liked
the idea and he agreed. Madhu had prepared lunch for him. After lunch, he left
the room and was gone.
We found that Babajis living style was very simple. He seemed to be meditative
mood most of the time, or engrossed in reading some book, sitting on a sofa,
with the room closed. Normally, Madhu offered him tea in his room at about 9
AM in the morning, when we also offered pranams to him. Then, when he was
ready, Madhu offered him lunch at around 12-30 PM. He was a small eater.
Usually, he left soon after lunch, only to return by past 11 PM or, at times, even
by past-midnight. He did remain indoors on certain evenings when he had fixed
interview with some of his devotees at our place. During those sessions, we too
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 41
had a chance to talk to him about spiritual or other matters. We felt very blessed
to have Babaji stay with us.
One morning, we had an unforgettable experience with Babaji. While we were
in our room, we heard Babaji calling us. When we entered his room, we saw
Babaji sitting in a chair, wearing a dhoti (traditional Indian dress) but with bare
chest, and vibhuti smeared all over his body and a cobra wrapped up around his
body, with its hood held above Babajis head! We thought that it was a vision
of Lord Shiva and we fell at Babajis feet. Babaji blessed us and we came out
of the room. This was, indeed, one of the lifetime experiences about Babaji and
which we would never forget!
Early in 1983, we were happy to be informed that I had been selected by Tata
Projects Ltd., for an assignment with a World Bank Project in Nigeria. This
was a prestigious assignment for me and we heartily thanked Babaji and God
Almighty for the same. We had to leave for Nigeria in September. As such,
Babaji decided to move down to another devotees place. The duration of
Babajis stay with us was the most cherished time of our stay in Bombay. On
reaching Nigeria, we greatly missed Babaji.

BABAJIS DIVINE INTERVENTION

OBVIATES SURGICAL INTERFERANCE
On my return from the overseas posting in Nigeria and Liberia, including a
visit to U.S.A. and Canada, I was afflicted by piles which had troubled me
quite a lot. I consulted Dr. Mirani at the Breach Candy Hospital; after a check-
up, he had advised me to undergo an operation. He referred me to an eminent
specialist surgeon, Dr. Gajendragadkar, at Napeansea Road. He also examined
me carefully and advised a surgery. He check his appointments diary and asked
me get admitted at the Breach CandyHospital the next day for him carry out the
surgical operation the following day.
As providence willed it, Babaji came to our place that evening. We told him
about the proposed operation. He said that he was not in favour of the operation.
He was of the view that any operation would disturb the normal metabolism
and should, as far as possible, be avoided. He mentioned that he knew a family
owning a shop at Byculla who have been blessed by a sufi-pir (a Muslim saint)
to provide treatment for curing piles, by use of a special powder whereby
several piles-patients have been cured. They dispensed the special powder free
of charge. Babaji gave me the address and asked me to try their special powder
for some time before deciding in favour of the operation. So, we decided to
postpone the operation for some time.
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 42
I went to the shop and obtained the special powder to last for a fortnight. Using
it, I experience some relief. As such, I continued the treatment for almost three
months and found that the piles-problem had almost gone. To this day, the
problem has not recurred. Our thanks to Babaji for this!

MATERIALIZATION OF DELICIOUSLY
DIVINE KHEER
We were delighted to get a call from Babaji one day saying that he would be
visiting us in the evening. Madhu requested him to join us also for dinner,
which he kindly accepted. As we do recall, it was the full moon evening or the
one before that.
When Babaji arrived, we ensured that he was made comfortable in his seat.
Madhu offered him a cold drink as usual, and we sat down chatting with him
on various topics for almost an hour. Then it was time for dinner and Madhu
served him. Babaji suggested that we too should have it in the meantime.
After the main course, it was time for dessert. Madhu had prepared kheer (rice
pudding) especially for Babaji and she got up to fetch it. Suddenly, Babaji gave
a smile, with a glint in his eyes and said: Madhu, wait. Today let me serve
you some kheer. At this, Madhu was completely taken aback and asked with
astonishment: What Babaji, you serving kheer? Assuring her, Babaji said:
Yes, would you bring a silver bowl? Accordingly, Madhu brought in a silver
bowl and handed it to Babaji. We waited, wondering as to what Babaji may be
having in his mind.
Soon, Babaji got up and went towards the balcony. We followed him. The
balcony was lit up with cool, soothing moonlight and we could see the bright
moon shining in its full glory. Babaji closed his eyes for a while, extending his
hand holding the bowl towards the moon. Lo and behold, as Babaji took his
hand back, the bowl was full of freshly prepared kheer, to our great amazement.
The kheer seemed quite similar to the one that Madhu had prepared. Babaji
seemed to be quite happy. Then we all went back to the Drawing Room and
Babaji asked Madhu to get some dishes and spoons.
Babaji served equal portions of kheer in three different plates and passed on
our plates. He partook a spoonful of kheer from his plate and said: Very tasty,
indeed. You try some. We also sat down, anxious to taste the kheer
miraculously coming from the Heavens! It was, indeed, very tasty and delicious
with a unique delicate flavour, so hard to describe something completely out
of this world, a taste which we had never experienced before, nor could we

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 43

hope to taste again! We thanked Babaji heartily for this Divine treat, feeling
very happy to be blessed and fully satisfied, treasuring this experience of a
lifetime!

MATERIALIZATION OF DUPATTA
FOR GODDESS DURGA MATA
One evening when Babaji was with us, he told us that he was invited by
Mrs. Kumari Vanjani, staying at Santacruz, on the occasion for the first day
celebration of Navratri Pooja (nine days worship of Goddess Durga).
He described the instance thus: When the pooja and the bhajans were going
on, everyone suddenly saw a green coloured dupatta (ladies head-covering
dress) flying in the air and falling on the Devi Durgas image! Everyone was
just amazed to witness this miracle. Babaji explained that the Deity must have
been very pleased with the sincerity and devotion of Kumariji and the other
devotees present; and to indicate Her presence during the bhajans She had
unfurled the dupatta this way. Whereupon, the bhajans were continued with
additional gusto, making the whole atmosphere charged with the presence of
the Divinity!
Listening to Babaji, we too were thrilled and were anxious to meet Kumariji,
see for ourselves the miraculous dupatta and pay our obeisance to Devi Durga
there. Babaji was kind enough to suggest that we could accompany him when
he visited her place the next evening. So we picked him up from one of his
devotees place, the following evening as arranged and reached Kumarijis
place. She greeted us warmly and willingly narrated the whole incident.
While she was thus narrating, she suddenly closed her eyes and it seemed she
had gone in meditation. Babaji also confirmed that she should not be disturbed
as she was having blissful experience of darshan of the Divinity located at
difference shrines. After a while, we saw her shivering a bit, which lasted for
a couple of minutes. She opened her eyes after about fifteen minutes, looking
quite cheerful.
Upon asking her about her experience during the trance, she said that by Babajis
grace, she had darshan (vision) of char-dham (the four holy pilgrimage shrines)
and also had darshan of Devi Durga at a shrine at a high altitude in Himalayas;
Deviji talked to her and blessed her! As it was very cold there, she was almost
shivering, but during those moments she felt very happy and blissful! We were
indeed thrilled on hearing about her experiences. Then she took us to the puja
room where we had the opportunity of having darshan of the Goddess wearing

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 44

the green dupatta descended from the Heavens! We prayed to the Deity, had
prasad and returned home, feeling very blessed indeed.

MATERIALIZATION OF REPLICA OF
LEGENDARY FLYING HORSE
We all may have read or heard about flying horses of the yore depicted in
fairytales or even in Pauranik Granth (Ancient Indian Epics) but could have
never imagined their real existence. But we had to believe it, after all, because
of Babajis demonstration when he visited us one evening.
From his bag, he pulled out a folded napkin and placed it on the center table
in the Drawing Room. And when he unfolded it, what came out of the napkin
was a bronze replica of a tiny horse, complete with the saddle and ornamental
decorations! What is this? we asked Babaji. He said This is the replica of Sri
Ramdevji Peers flying horse with the saddle and all other paraphernalia. We
were quite amazed. We had never heard about Sri Ramdevji Peer up to now;
and could not even imagine about a flying horse. Babaji said: Yes, its true.
And he went on narrating the whole story about Sri Ramdevji Maharaj thus:
Sri Ramdevji Peer was a great saint, who lived a few hundred years ago at
Falodi, near Jodhpur in Rajasthan. He had undergone a lot of tapasya (penance)
and had acquired substantial spiritual prowess. He had a large following. He
had a horse which could fly and take him to places wherever he wanted to
go!
This was indeed so very hard for us to believe. Babaji then mentioned that there
are books written about him and there existed a temple in Falodi, commemorating
his name. Later on, we came to know that a temple in the name of Sri Ramdevji
Maharaj also existed at Durgapura, Jaipur, which we have since visited.
Babaji mentioned that he was at one of his devotees place a few days ago. This
devotee had heard about Sri Ramdevji Peer and wanted to know more about
the saint. The devotee, too, could not believe about the Peers flying horse. And
so, Babaji said that he had to materialize the replica of the flying horse for the
devotees conviction.
Babaji said that he wanted us also to know for sure about Sri Ramdevji Maharaj
and hence he had brought the replica along with him for us to see. It was so
very gracious of him indeed to do this for us; and we heartily thanked him.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 45

MATERIALIZATION OF SAUDI
ARABIAN ORNAMENTS
One evening, when Babaji came to our place, he was accompanied by a
young Muslim Indian girl. He introduced her to us and told us that she had
been engaged to a young man from Saudi Arabia for some time but he was
having some difficulties in coming down to India for marriage; and that she
was anxious to know as to when he would be coming.
After we had tea, Babaji told us to go to the other room as he wanted to remain
alone with the girl. On being called back after a while, we were surprised to
find the girl all bedecked in exquisite precious traditional Arabian jewelry,
including a jhoomar (ornament worn on the head), necklace, bracelets and a
finger-ring. She indeed looked very delighted! Babaji then told her, in good
humour, that she need not have any anxiety now as what she has got by way
of ornaments, was proof enough that her prince charming was bound to come
to India very shortly and marry her! A few months later, Babaji told us that
the young Arab did actually come to India, got married to her and they were
happily living together in Saudi Arabia!

SHIVDASANI FACE TO FACE WITH

BRAHMALEEN GURUJI SRI SRI
MAHAVATAR BABA
One evening, when Babaji was with us, quite number devotees came to meet
him. One of them was a young man whom we had not met before. As usual,
Madhu asked his name Ramesh Shivdasani and informed Babaji. Normally,
we did not enter into any conversation with the devotees, especially if they were
new or that we did not know them. Usually, such devotees used to just meet
Babaji when they were called in and left thereafter. Of course, the customary
hospitality was always extended to everyone who came. Thus, Mr. Shivdasani
also met Babaji when he was called in; and he left soon after the meeting.
The next time, when Babaji had come to our place, Shivdasani had also come
again to meet him. On this occasion, there were only a few devotees and
Shivdasani was sitting alone in the Drawing Room for quite some time waiting
to be called in. We got a chance to ask him as to how did he come to know Dr.
Babaji? He told us that he was asked by his guru to meet him. And who is your
guru? we asked him. He replied, Mahavatar Babaji.
We had read about Sri Sri Mahavatar Babaji, the guru of Sri Sri Lahiri Mahasaya
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 46
who in turn was the guru of Swami Yukteshwar Giri, the guru of Swami
Yoganandji, in the book called Autobiography of a Yogi. So, we asked him
whether he meant the same Mahavatar Babaji? He said, Yes. At this, we
were quite tacken aback. Surprised, we mentioned to him that, as per this book,
Maha Avtar Babaji must have lived at least a couple of hundred years ago.
He said, Yes, but he still comes and meets me! Oh, really? we uttered in
amazement. Yes, that is true. He was soon called in by Babaji and he left us
in a great curiosity! We were anxiously waiting for the next chance to meet him
and tell us what Babaji had told him and to satisfy our curiosity.
After Ramesh Shivdasani had left, we asked Dr. Babaji as to what he had told
him about Mahavatar Babaji. Then Babaji told us, Yes, thats true, Maha
Avatar Babaji has been coming to meet Ramesh and it has been only he who
had sent him to me. But, Babaji, Mahavatar Babaji lived a couple hundred
years ago, as per the book Autobiography of a Yogi. We asked. Yes, but
he can still appear when he is called by his devotee. Babaji said. This left us
still more intrigued!
The next chance did come, not much later. Ramesh did come once more to meet
Dr. Babaji and by now he seemed to be more open and friendly towards us. He
told us his story, which was so very strange. He said he had been quite religious
and inquisitive since a very early age. He had a maid servant who helped him
answer some of his queries. As he grew up, he very much wanted to see God
and talk to Him and was, therefore, he was looking for a guru.
One night, a couple of years ago, he had a very real dream. He saw that a saint
from Brindavan had come to him to tell him that he had instructions from his
guru to take Ramesh to him and wanted to know as to when they
could go. He gave his name and address at Brindavan where he could be
contacted.
The dream was so real that when Ramesh got up, he had an inner urge to go
to Brindavan and verify it. So, he took the earliest opportunity during the next
couple of days to proceed to Brindavan. When he reached there, he was amazed
to find the same Swamiji at the address given! Swami welcomed him and
confirmed that it was only he who had come in his dream as per the instructions
given by his guru. Ramesh asked him as to who was his guru. He said, Sri
Sri Mahavatar Babaji. He further informed him that Babaji was staying in a
cave near Almora. He would have to take a train up to Khatgodam Station and
from there a bus to Almora. Then he will have to walk at least for a few hours
to reach the cave. In other words, it would take for Swamiji and him a full day
to do this. Was Ramesh ready? He asked. Ramesh replied that he had come just
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 47
to verify the truth about his dream and that it was not presently necessary for
him to visit Almora. He told Swamiji that he would make suitable arrangement,
during his absence, to take care of his perfume business and return to Brindavan
in about four-five days.
Accordingly, Ramesh did visit Brindavan once again and proceeded to Almora
along with Swamiji, a journey which was quite delightful and most memorable.
It was already getting dark when they reached Almora. They had to walk for
almost a couple of hours before they could reach a cave. Its entrance was lit
by a small lamp. As they stepped inside, a very bright looking, compassionate
Saintly person (Guruji), clad in white dhoti and holding a lantern, greeted them.
He embraced Ramesh, saying: O son Ramesh, you have come! I have been
waiting for you. You must be tired. He made both of them sit comfortably on
a mattress on the floor and offered them water. Then he brought a jug of water
and started washing Rameshs feet! At this, Ramesh felt most embarrassed and
beseeched him that he was not tired any more. But on the whole, the gesture
made Ramesh feel completely refreshed and quite at home. Sant Guruji then
fetched some milk and fruit which they all shared. In the quiet solitude of the
Himalayan cave, surcharged with peace and tranquility, Ramesh had altogether
forgotten the mundane world left behind and had a very sound sleep.
Nest morning, he woke up to a new world of beauty. Sant Guruji himself took
him around the mountains to experience the soul-lifting charm of the idyllic
surroundings and its refreshingly cool breeze, answering all his queries in a
very casual and playful manner. Ramesh had, after all, found his guru, whom
he was searching for all along for so many years! He stayed with his Guruji
for a couple of days and returned to Bombay, an altogether changed person,
completely happy and fully satisfied.
Ramesh mentioned that, thereafter, Guruji had been coming to him whenever
he had been praying for him. He said that, at times, Guruji surprises him by
ringing the doorbell; and on opening the door, he finds Guruji standing there.
Sometimes, Guruji used to stay with him for a couple of days, but Ramesh used
to get completely puzzled and perplexed when he did not find Guruji with him
the next morning, in spite of the fact that the main door used to be latched from
inside.
He went on to narrate that, on occasions, he had taken Guruji for a drive along
the Marine Drive or some other places; and one such instance, while strolling
along the Marine Drive, he was looking at Guruji and he saw that he looked
quite a bit odd, wearing shorts and bearing hoary, flowing beard; but when
Guruji placed his hand on Rameshs head, he was quite astonished to find the
Guruji cleanshaved!
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 48
All of us felt very blessed indeed on our having a firsthand account of the
legendary Sri Sri Mahavatara Babaji (Rameshs Guruji) and were thankful to
Dr. Babaji for providing us this opportunity of a lifetime experience!

ALIENS VISIT TO BABAJI

On certain occasions, Babaji used to mention to us about beings from the
other planets. He had also lent us some books on Unidentified Flying Objects
(UFO) for us to read, which included a book with the title Sukra written by
Ruth Reyna. This book gave vivid account of a UFO landing somewhere near
the dormitory of womens college in a large mid-western city in America. It is
stated in this book that the author, while she was studying there, the UFO took
her onboard and took off to the Planet Sukra or Venus for a fantastic tour and
brought her back!
Babaji said that he had requested his Guru a number of times to bring some
of the beings from other planets to the earth in order that Babaji could meet
them; hut his Guru was postponing their visit and had asked Babaji to wait for
an opportune time!
One evening, Babaji came to our place and pulled out some pictures from his
bag. We were completely wonderstruck to see them. We saw four-five little
beings, very much like humans, gathered around Babaji, a couple of them
sitting on his lap and one on his shoulder. Babaji, we exclaimed, who are
these on your lap and sitting on your shoulder? These are the beings from
another planet that we have been waiting to see for all this time! Babaji told
us; and then he continued: Yes, my prayers have been answered; these beings
did pay me a visit while the bhajans were going on last evening on the terrace
of a devotees place in an apartment building near Kemps Corner, not very far
from here. And, suddenly, all of us gathered at the devotees place saw a Flying
Object sweeping down from the space and landing on the terrace floor. These
beings jumped down from there and ran up to me, as the Flying Object took
off.
Is it really true? It all sounds so very unbelievable! we said in utter
amazement.
Yes, its quite true. Babaji confirmed. The host offered them cold drinks,
some biscuits and eatables but they did not take anything. They did neither
understand our language nor did they speak. They just wanted to be playful.
The host did not have a film-roll in his camera but a neighbour had it, so these
pictures were taken by the neighbour. After about half an hour or so, the Flying
Object swept in again and our little guests from the other planet hopped into it
and they were gone!
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 49
All this sounded to us like a fairytale. But coming from Babaji, and having seen
the pictures, we just had to believe what we saw and heard from him.
Well, can there be any better proof of existence of life in yonder planets or even
about the reality of UFOs about which the scientists have been struggling so
very hard for so long a time to prove it or even disprove it?

CHILDHOOD MEMORIES OF
MOHINI NARAIN
I was a young girl of about 7 years when Dr. Babaji came into our life. When I
look back on the miraculous events and times with Dr. Babaji, it is difficult to
believe that we actually witnessed these incredible miracles in our home.
My grandfather Mr. Uma Shanker combined spirituality, sadhana with
rationality. He was deeply spiritual and his experiences in his regular sadhana
and with his Gurudev created a deep spiritual yearning in my heart as a child.
My childhood was thus filled with many experiences and conversations about
miraculous events and the great saints such as Anandmayee Maa, Swami
Vishuddhanandji (my Nanajis Gurudev), Sathya Sai Baba and others.
How blessed I was! How wonderful were those days spent at Dr. Babajis feet!
Initially Dr. Babaji would come to my grandfathers house and we would go
there to meet him. I loved to sit at his feet and receive his blessings.
One day I asked him to come to our house during Diwali days. Babaji said:
Yes! I was thrilled and excitedly, and told my mother about it. I was surprised
to hear from her that she too had asked him visit us but he had told her that he
wont be able to come. How can this be? I thought; but I completely believed
that Babaji would come to our house during the Diwali days. My childlike
belief in Babajis promise to me was complete.
Diwali came and I waited till late no sign of Babaji! I had lit a wax diya in
each room of our house and after Diwali my sister and I used to collect the wax
from our diyas the next day. When I came to my bedroom, there was no diya.
I thought my sister had hidden it to tease me. She denied taking it but I didnt
believe her! The diya was not to be found. After a week we met Babaji at my
Nanajis house. I complained that he had not kept his promise to me. He smiled
and asked me Who took away your Diya? I was stunned to hear this, as no
one had told Babaji about the missing Diya on that Diwali day.
So, I realized that Babaji did keep his promise. He had come and taken away
my Diya to show me that he had kept his word to me and to my mother!
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 50
This event had a great impact on me. It showed me that Babaji could travel to
any place in a nonphysical body and visit us without our realizing it. Later on
he told us that when he came to our house the next time, we will experience a
perfume in the room. Soon this happened regularly - we would then follow the
scent from room to room! It was exciting for us to suddenly detect his perfume
in the room!
These supernatural events did not involve any materialization of articles but
we later witnessed many such moments in our living room as we sat at Babajis
feet on many a miraculous night filled with wonder, blessings and joy. [Mohini
Narain (presemtly in her late 40s) happens to be the maternal niece of Mahesh
Govind].

IMMORTAL BABAJI SHEDS MORTAL COIL

We had shifted to Jaipur about the end of 1998. Subsequently, during the
following couple of years, we had been going to Bombay for some work. Every
time, we enquired about Babaji from the friends, tried to meet him and seek his
blessings. Once, while were there during 2000, we were informed that Babaji
was not keeping well and that he had been admitted to a Nursing Home in
Bandra. So, we visited him at the Nursing Home, carrying some fruit for him.
We could never have imagined Babaji being in a Nursing Home and hence we
were feeling rather depressed as we entered the room. We saw Babaji sitting in
his bed, reading some book. He was happily surprised to see us and welcomed
us. We touched his feet and enquired about his health, expressing our anxiety
on finding him there.
He said he was alright. Only some doctor devotee had advised that he needed
some rest; and so, he was there just taking rest. That relieved us to some
extent.
Babaji enquired of us as to how we liked Jaipur and whether we felt like having
got settled there. We told him that by his blessing we were quite happy there.
Only that we had missed him very much and we extended a cordial invitation
to him to visit Jaipur. He said, God willing, he too would like to see us at Jaipur
when there arises a suitable opportunity.
Finding him to be well recovered and looking very much like his normal self,
we took his leave, touching his feet. He blessed us, and he gave some of the
fruit back to us as prasad.
The next time when we were in Bombay, after about a year, we had enquired
about Babaji and got a very shocking news when we were told that he had

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 51

already shed his mortal coil and had gone to his Heavenly Abode. He had met
with a fatal road accident just near Bandra and had passed away thereafter.
Babaji may have thus passed away from the mundane world, but he shall always
continue to live in the hearts of thousands of his devotees whose lives were
spiritually enriched and blissfully transformed by him forever by his simple,
unassuming and miraculous ways, full of loving care!
In this portion of the e-Book are enshrined the Spiritual Experiences of
Chandravati Dayal, her daughter Mohini Narain and family, who have also
been Devotees of Late Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji in addition and supplemental
to those of Mr. and Mrs. Mahesh Govind and his family have had. These are
equally amazing, breathtaking and noteworthy.

REMINISCENCES OF Dr. KHAKHAR BABAJI

by
CHANDRAVATI DAYAL
(Sister-in-law of Mahesh Govind)
FIRST IMPRESSIONS
When I first met Dr. Babaji, my perceptions of how a spiritually-advanced
person looks changed completely. As I entered the room in which he was
sitting on a couch, I was surprised to see an elderly gentleman wearing a
smart light-coloured suit and a tie - and smoking a cigarette! Definitely, He
was not a traditional-looking swami or yogi in saffron clothes. I saw too that
he had aristocratic features, a hooked nose and a fair complexion. Before my
imagination could take reign, he put his cigarette down in an ashtray close to him
and looked at us kindly with large bright, eyes which had a soft yet penetrating
quality about them. My father, my mother, myself and my preteen daughter
Mohini bent down at his socks-covered feet and did our pranams. Then we sat
down on the white sheet spread before him. My father introduced himself and
all of us; and then he started asking Dr.Babaji about various things.
PRAYER ANSWERED
The conversation lasted for a short time and then Dr. Babaji said that he would
like to speak to each one of us separately. He questioned, Who is the most
patient of all of you? And then he looked at each of us in turn. I was expecting
him to ask my mother to stay, as I considered her to be the embodiment of
patience. I was very surprised when he asked me to stay while the others were
asked to wait in the other room, until he called them, This was going to be a day
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 52
of surprises for me for as soon as I was alone with Dr. Babaji he asked me: And
what can I do for you? Trying to orient myself to this sudden focus on myself,
I could not think of anything significant to ask. Then too I was somewhat wary
and did not feel that I could talk to someone whom I had just met. I realized
only later, that Dr. Babaji was literally an answer to my heartfelt prayers.
ANTARYAMI BABAJI
Actually while coming in the car to Madhurjiji and Maheshjijajis place that
day, I had been praying to God to help me as I needed someone who was
antaryami - with whom one could talk comfortably; and endlessly about
any matter under the sun; and who would understand me completely and who
would be able to give me good advice whenever I needed it. At that time I had
not realized it but God had answered my prayers. So my very first miracle with
Dr. Babaji was in meeting him.
THE ANCIENT & THE MODERN
Our meetings increased in frequency and duration, in family groups and
individually, and we thoroughly enjoyed them. I had always been very interested
in spiritual books. Dr. Babaji gently opened up a new world to my family and
me through his fascinating discussions as well as those many
intriguing books he lent to us. One very interesting book was Ruth Reynas
Shukra which introduced us to Highly Spiritual Beings living on the Planet
Venus. Stories from our mythology suddenly took on a deeper meaning. Interest
in many discoveries and inscrutable phenomena as well as New Age Literature
and books on scientific and religious projects were fascinating topics which
opened up our minds and hearts. Our awareness and knowledge increased.
Through it all, Dr. Babaji was teaching us in his own way.
GODS GRACE
If we thanked or praised him for anything he would always clasp his hands
together and say, God is Great! In this manner, He taught us to value humility
because everything comes from God and we are Gods medium of
expression. Another thing he emphasized was, It is the thought that counts
- to point out to us that a clean heart and sincerity are more important than
material things. Also to make us realize that thoughts are tangible and have
deep effects on those around us and that positive good thoughts help to nurture
people around us and vice versa.
MATERIALIZATION OF PRASADIS
Dr. Babajis manner in which he showed us miracles in their physical form is
also wondrous. For my husband, Vijay Dayal, he materialized a gold coin from
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 53
Ramchandrajis era. It came wrapped up in an old parchment which had writing
in an unknown ancient script on it- which nobody, we knew, could decipher.
Around the coin and the parchment was a red cloth which in turn was tied
up with kalava. Around the packet was a small live black snake (whom Dr.
Babaji called His gan or follower) and the whole packet was in a large block
of ice. Dr. Babaji would ask us to offer pranams at his feet and/or meditate and
the block of ice would appear with the prasadi inside it, with a loud clap of
thunder-like sound, in Babajis hands. He would then hand it over to the person
for whom it was intended, and have it put in a parath (a metal plate with high
edging used for kneading dough for making chappatis). In it, the block of ice
would slowly start melting - often taking much longer to melt than an ordinary
block of ice. A lamp would be lighted and puja done to the prasadi with
kumkum, rice and flowers by everyone present. But the prasadi could be
picked up only after the snake gan had disappeared; and that too only by the
person for whom it was intended
and it was to be kept as per Dr. Babajis instructions. In the same manner,
a Green stone Shivalinga also appeared for my husband and another time a
heavy ring with a blue pyramid-shaped stone inset in it. Within the stone were
beautiful shining gold and other coloured shapes which were fascinating to
see. I too was highly blessed with a white crystal shivalinga around which a
snake was coiled. Fortunately, the snake didnt disappear. By the time the ice
melted, it had become a metal-snake, still coiled around the crystal shivalinga.
Dr. Babaji told us that each prasadi would be with the person for the period
it was needed and then go back to the place and dimension from which it had
originated.
STAGNANT TEMPERATURE
Another miracle of a different sort had occurred when my mother had become
sick and was running high temperature. My worried father rang up Dr. Babaji
and asked him to come urgently and see my mother. He came soon and asked
for a glass of water. He made circular motions over the water with his fingers
while silently moving his lips, as though chanting some mantra. He then asked
Mummy to drink up the water. He also asked Daddy to regularly note Mummys
temperature. With great surprise, Daddy noted
that every time he took the temperature, it was the same, 98.4 degrees, that
is, normal. There were no variations whatsoever - not even in the decimal
points, whether it was day or night. There are normal fluctuations in a bodys
temperature through the day - but in Mummys case it was as though the
mercury was stuck at 98.4 degrees. She recovered from the illness completely
in two days or so.
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 54
HEAVENLY EXPERIENCE
Once, when my father, Uma Shanker, my mother Raj Dulari, my husband Vijay
Dayal, and my three daughters - Mohini, Madhulika and Manisha, were sitting
on the floor around Dr. Babaji, he said to us, You are in heaven just
now. When he said that we were left speechless and looked askance as we had
not gone anywhere else and the physical environment was the same as before.
Then I had an inner urge to say Yes, Dr. Babaji, we are in heaven because we
are with you. Dr. Babaji just nodded his head in agreement with these words
but did not add any further information .As I said these words, I realized that
often in Dr. Babajis presence we were in such a heightened state of awareness,
which was as well as being in a state of other-worldliness and happiness that
the vibrations around us were comparable to being in heaven - and Dr. Babaji
was gently pointing it out to us.
QUANDRY NO MORE
Another incident comes to mind. Once my husband and I were very involved
with an upcoming Diwali Function for our Mathur Community which was
scheduled to be held a week later. As both of us were on the Management
Committee and I was in charge of the stage performance items by small
children both of us were very busy and were committed to making the function
a success. At such a time, we were informed that our beloved niece had just
got engaged to a boy who had come from USA on a very short visit and that
their marriage would be performed at the next weekend - and it was imperative
that we attend! But how could we? The marriage was in Delhi and we were
in Bombay. At this late stage who could take over our responsibilities for the
Mathur Function? I was in a quandary. By good fortune Dr. Babaji came to our
house that day. While sitting at his feet I poured out all my troubles to him. He
patiently listened to the valid reasons why it was important for me to go to the
wedding; but how could I when the responsibilities of the Function were there?
He simply said, You will go. Thereafter, things just sorted themselves out and
I was able to give my responsibilities to my sister, Manorama, who very kindly
agreed to help out. My daughter Mohini agreed to take over one of the roles. So
I was free to go and in 5 days time we were able to fly to Delhi and participate
completely in the wedding function.
PATH SMOOTHENED
In some other cases too, when I had a strong desire for something which was
difficult to get, I often found that if I spoke of it to Dr. Babaji, then the path to
it would be mysteriously smoothened out for me. My daughters are
good singers. Once, while sitting in front of Dr. Babaji, I had a strong desire

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 55

that my daughters should get a chance to showcase their singing talent. Soon
after that, Priti Sagar heard my daughter Madhulika when she was singing at
a recording studio for a school concert, and rang up to ask them to sing for
her upcoming cassette of nursery rhymes. This they did and the cassette was a
success and a second one was also made by her in which my youngest daughter
Manisha also sang. In fact, a copy of the cassette was also given to Prince
Charles and Diana by Preeti Sagar for their children when they visited India.
So, Dr. Babajis Blessings for us took many tangible forms and we are very
grateful to him.
THE REAL DIAMOND
At the same time, he would not let us forget the important things in our lives.
Once, when he had materialized a diamond ring for my mother (in the usual
block of ice), and my mother was thanking him for giving her the diamond
ring and asking Him as to how to take good care of it, he gently told her, Your
husband is your real diamond. You must take good care of him.
IMPLANTATION OF SHIVALINGA
Dr. Babaji also gave prasadi of a ring to my daughter Mohini. who was always
very happy to see him. In fact he told her, and us too, that our association
with him had been since many previous births. Another marvellous incident
I remember was when Dr. Babaji put a shivalinga into my fathers head. One
day, soon after he started visiting my parents at their home, Dr. Babaji asked
my father to show him the place where he did his puja. I could see that my
father was somewhat reluctant as he liked to do his sadhna in a special separate
room according to the diksha he had received many years earlier from his Guru
Sri Sri Vishuddhananda - but he opened his puja room and escorted Dr. Babaji
into it. There, among other deities, my fathers gurus picture was prominently
displayed and Daddys asan was spread out on the floor in front of it. Dr. Babaji
entered and went straight to the place where the asan was spread out, and, to our
discomfiture and consternation, he deliberately put a foot on it and stayed like that
while he started talking about different things. I felt that this was a violation of
my fathers sacred place as we had all been taught not to touch anybodys asan
especially, when the person concerned had got diksha from a Sadguru. How could
Dr. Babaji do such a thing without asking my father first? My father too was
hovering around not knowing what to do at this unexpected turn of events.
Suddenly, Dr. Babaji still holding his foot on the asan, asked my father to kneel
down in front of him. Daddy knelt in front of him. Then Dr. Babaji asked
everyone else to go out of the room, which we did. Later on, Daddy told us that
Dr. Babaji produced a shivalinga in his hands and rested it on Daddys head
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 56
while he murmured some words. Then he started pressing the shivalinga down
on Daddys head and Daddy could feel the weight and pressure of it being
pressed down. Suddenly, there was a loud sound (which we heard outside the
puja room) and Daddy could no longer feel it on his head, instead he felt that
something was inside his head but in an unobtrusive way because, there was
no discomfort, like pain or heaviness or pressure, within his head. Dr. Babajis
hands were empty and he confirmed to Daddy that the shivalinga was indeed
inside Daddys head!
INVISIBLE GOLDEN CHARIOT
Dr. Babaji also had the ability to see many things beyond our ken. When Daddy
passed away, and we paid our last respects, in our grief we did not see anything
extraordinary. Later Dr. Babaji asked us, Did you see something? Didnt you
see the beautiful golden chariot in which he was escorted away? It makes us
realize that there are so very many things we are still unaware of. Luckily, every
single person in our family, be they brother, sister, uncle, in-laws, and so on,
who came in contact with him, invariably received his Blessings in different
forms. Some recognized it while others didnt. He also fooled some people
by carrying rubber snakes around with him so that they would take him for
granted that he was a fraud. Our loved Dr. Babaji was not above playing jokes
on people too!.
OBEISANCE
At that time it seemed as though wonders would never cease. I am grateful to
Dr. Babaji for all the wondrous things he showed, revealed and taught us.

REMINISCENCES OF Dr. KHAKHAR
BABAJIS
MIRACLES
by
MOHINI NARAIN
(Maternal Niece of Mahesh Govind)
AS A CHILD
I was a young girl of about 7 years when Dr. Babaji came into our life. When I
look back on the miraculous events and times with Dr. Babaji, it is difficult to
believe that we actually witnessed these incredible miracles in our home.
My grandfather Mr. Uma Shanker combined spirituality, sadhana with

AS AN ADOLESCENT
We never knew when Dr. Babaji would come to our house. We always waited
eagerly for him in the evenings. After my grandfather retired and started
living with us, Babajis visits became very frequent and I enjoyed spending
many evenings sitting together at Babajis feet. So many Prashadees! Blessed
experiences crowd my memories of those happy times.
CRAWLING COBRA
One day we heard from another devotee that a cobra had been materialized
by Babaji. My grandmother was eager to experience this too, so she requested
him to show her the same miracle. Lo and behold one day Babaji fulfilled her
wish and a magnificent Cobra was seen by all of us crawling at Babajis feet.
It moved around and showed us its hood !I was scared! Only my grandmother
was allowed to touch it! When my grandmother touched the cobra, it was in my
grandparents bedroom it was pretty large in size and
stayed coiled up in many rounds on their bed! When I saw it, it was lying at Dr.
Babajis feet!
We offered Pooja with rice and kumkum and little milk to the Cobra. Babaji
explained that it was a Gan, and always accompanied Babaji just as Lord Shiva
had Cobras around his neck! After sometime the Cobra disappeared vanished
into the ether!
Once when Babaji came to us in Delhi, he was well aware that many of our
relatives did not believe in him. I think he carried some rubber snakes as well
and which he let them see just to oblige their strong disbelief!
Incidentally, I have read a story where Sai Baba palmed a ring which he had
materialized for a devotee and then he pretended to show it to a student who
did not believe in him or his Miracles so that the student could feel that he had
caught Baba unaware in the act of doing a magic trick to fool his devotees.
Unfathomable is the Leela of these Saints.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 59

MIRACULOUS ICE-BLOCKS
We saw many more Cobras on many occasions in the future, too! They
accompanied the Prashadees, which came, believe it or not, encased in huge
blocks of ice! Often Babaji would ask us to close our eyes and pray. And when
we opened them, he would be standing holding a huge block of ice! Quickly
we would run to our kitchen and bring out a Paraat the biggest dish we could
find, and then the block of ice would be placed on the Paraat (utensil used for
kneading Atta). The block of ice would be bigger than the Paraat and would
be placed on top of it. We would be able to discern a Cobra in the ice frozen
with an object often a shivlinga or a ring for a lucky family member. The ice
would take 3-4 hours to melt, we would often wait late into the night excited to
see what would emerge.
The Cobra would begin wriggling as the ice melted, and the excitement would
mount! A ghee diya would be lighted and rice, kumkum and prayers would be
offered by all of us as instructed by Dr. Babaji. Then when the ice had melted,
the Cobra would move freely causing me some trepidation as I observed it in
the Paraat and then suddenly the reptile would vanish! Left behind would be an
item of Prashadee!
MATERIALIZATION OF ORNAMENTS
On one occasion a most unusual type of finger-ring was materialized by Babajii
for my father. Another time a crystal shivlinga, then a beautiful gold-coin
engraved with a picture of Ramchandraji, Sitaji, Laxmanji and Hanumanji. It
was wrapped in a parchment paper with some Sanskrit inscription. Especially
on Diwali days, when we woke up in the morning, this gold-coin was shown to
us by my father and mother before we even got out of bed! It was an auspicious
darshan, first thing in the morning, for me and
my sisters. This ritual went on for quite a few years. Miraculous and thrilling
were these gifts received by our family. We were filled with bliss on these
occasions.
SCALPEL-LESS SURGERY
One day Babaji asked me to assist him in an operation for removing kidney
stones from a devotee who was in much pain. I was barely 11 years old at that
time. I accompanied him with another young assistant to a devotees home. I
do not remember the name or address now it happened more than 30 years
ago and I was very young at that time. A lady was on lying on a bed on a table
nearby were some instruments, and some utensils which had been sterilized.
There was lots of cotton. The lady was covered in white bed sheets, leaving
only the operable area exposed. Rubber sheets and cotton were also used.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 60

Babaji did not use any knife the patient was conscious throughout the surgical
interference. Babaji used his hands in a slow rhythmic manner and suddenly
the skin parted! There was blood! We were busy handing Babaji cotton to wipe
the excess blood around the opening. Then he reached into the gaping area and
took out a kidneystone, I handed him a steel Katori and he dropped it in; then
followed 2 3 more of such stones. After some swabbing with cotton, he again
moved his hands rhythmically. Lo and behold, the skin came automatically
together and the operation was over a success Babaji announced. The devotee
thanked him and so did we still trying to assimilate what we had just seen! I
was told that the devotee was doing well and was fine after the operation.
On another occasion, Babaji presented me with a book called Arigo Surgeon
of the Rusted Knife. The book mentioned the miraculous psychic operations
and healings by Arigo a spiritual healer. This helped me to understand what I
had seen.
LIFE-LIKE DIAMOND
My aunt, and my uncle Dr. Ashok Mohan were great devotees of Anand Mayee
Maa. One day when they visited us, Dr. Babaji gave them a packet of Vibhuti
asking them to keep it safely. So, they placed the Vibhuti packet in their Puja
drawer since they were afraid the Vibhuti would accidentally fall off. Day by
day, the diamond in the Vibhuti packet grew quite large and it is still with them.
My grandmother continues to wear her diamond ring. When they asked Anand
Mayee Maa about this phenomenon she smiled and said that we should ask
for the Paramatma (attainment of emancipation) and not be satisfied with a
piece of diamond (ephemeral material)!
ANCESTRAL SPIRIT
On another occasion, it was my sisters birthday and we were driving with Dr.
Babaji in the car with us. He said he would give her something. He asked for a
white handkerchief and kept folding and refolding it throughout the drive. He
then gave it to my mother with instructions to open it the next day. The next day
we found an imprint of a face with long flowing hair it was the face of a man!
Babaji said that it was a spirit from our family.
GRANDPAS DEMISE One of the most memorable and sad experiences for me
was the passing away of my beloved grandfather, Shri Uma Shanker. I was very
close to him and he had always been a spiritual inspiration to me, he regularly
meditated at 4.00 AM every morning following his Diksha by his Gurudev,
Swami Vishudhanandji of Benaras. Often, he would emerge with fragrance of
some perfume and heat radiating from the top of his head. It was very exciting
for us as kids to touch his head and feel the heat! His professional achievements
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 61
were also a great inspiration to all in the family. (He had been General Manager
of Times of India and Managing Director of Indian Telephones Industry in
Bangalore) He was however, a heart patient and one day as I sat with him and
Dr. Babaji, I heard him say that astrologically his stars were very bad and that
even his wifes stars were bad, but he had avoided telling her about it. Babaji
was listening to all this, but he refrained from commenting. I heard all this with
trepidation. A few weeks later, my grandpa passed away in the morning due to
a heart attack.
BABAJIS PREMONITION
A few days ago, a letter had been posted to me by Dr. Babaji. When I had opened
it, the wording resembled the form of a sad poetry; there were lines which
mentioned about the angels blowing trumpets and the passing away of a King
and the dark clouds blowing. It was an incomprehensible letter. I understood a
bit later that he was referring to my Grandfathers passing away. He had known
it and had communicated it in the strange poetry before it happened. When I
discussed it with my mother, she was very upset. She said Why did he not tell
me? How could I, a very young girl, have done anything about it? Her grief
was very deep and she rejected Dr. Babaji for not having prevented this sad
event.
FLOW OF CURRENT
When Dr. Babaji came, I sat alone with him in the living room, as he moved to
bless me and when I touched his feet a current ran through my spine. It ran up
and down for a long time. I had been praying for a special blessing from my
Grandfather when I knelt down to touch Dr. Babajis feet. As I walked along
with him to the taxi stand he told me that I was very blessed - all the while the
current ran in my spine. He said he had spoken to my Grandfathers Gurudev,
Swami Vishuddhanandji (who had passed away many years before) to let my
grandfather stay but he did not agree. He said that he could not tell my mother
about this sad event since he knew that he was not permitted to stop it even by
my Grandfathers Gurudev.
GEMSTONE TRANSFORMED
A few days later, Babaji produced a beautiful ring for me it had a blue radiant
gemstone with a double band of golden lines passing through the centre. He
said that there were certain days on which I was not to wear it. One day, I
realized that I had continued to wear it on one of the prohibited days, suddenly,
it fell to the ground and the stone cracked. When Babaji heard about this, he
said it would have helped me to become a Doctor, but that was not to be. We
then covered it with flowers and offered prayers to it. When we removed the
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 62
flowers, the ring had vanished! Instead there was a closed oyster shell; on it
was fresh green moss! Babaji asked me to open it, another ring emerged. This
one was a garnet with small diamonds on each side. I wore it happily for many
years.
EXPRESSION OF GRATITUDE
I am truly grateful to Mahesh Mausaji and Madhu Mausiji for writing this
wonderful book about our beloved and mysterious Dr. Babaji. I feel that it was
my Grandfathers deep and sincere sadhana which pulled saintly persons to
our homes. My childhood evenings were often spent singing bhajans and ragas
with my father Mr. Vijay Dayal, who had a pure and wonderful divine voice
which transported all of us to another world. The deep spiritual atmosphere in
my childhood, rich with these wonderful events revealed to me that there exists
much more superior than the material world we live in. Thanks to Mausaji,
we can share reminiscences of these miraculous events with the children of
future generations, so that they may also benefit from them and know that this
material world is an illusion and there are many spiritual mysteries beyond,
worth seeking.

BABAJIS
MIRACLES
by
RAVI BHANDARI
(Ravis father was friend of Mr. Mahesh and
Mrs. Madhu Govind and Mr. Uma Shankar Mathur)
MY FIRST MEETING
I first met Dr Babaji at Sputnik Building, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs.
Mahesh Govind, during our visit to them, along with my parents. I must have
been in my early teens. To me he seemed to be rather aged, very shy and
unusually silent (but not quiet) and peaceful person. But my father was very
impressed and mentioned that Babaji looked to be a saintly person, with his
big eyes as if in a stance of Meditative mood. However, to me nothing about
him appeared to be saintly, mainly, because I found him to be not only smoking
like a chimney, but that he seemed to know almost everything about different
types of meats and alcohols....he was a doctor.....he appeared to have travelled

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 63

a lot overseas....he spoke fluent English .....was extremely soft-spoken and well
mannered...was dressed in a white suit and tie and wore formal black leather
shoes, instead of the usual robes of Sadhus, like a lungi and khaddus.
Yet, I could not help noticing his humility when he said What can I do for
you.
SUBSEQUENT ENCOUNTERS
Over the next few years he came to our place very regularly. He would ring
up and ask to be picked up from a restaurant at Breach candy. We would all sit
around him. He would talk to me; he would tell jokes. To my father, who was
dealing with a conflict at work, he would speak soothing words of guidance
and counsel.
RARE PHOTOGRAPHS
He showed us photographs of two Naags which appeared from nowhere to
bless devotees singing bhajans on a high floor in a building in Mumbai, only to
disappear later! He also showed us his photographs taken with celebrities from
India and Europe.
MILKY MIRACLE
Once while we were sitting in my parents room talking to Babaji, I was also
there with my back facing the Pujaaltar. Suddenly he stopped talking and
asked me if I could fetch him some milk. When I got him some milk, he asked
me to pour it on the Shivlinga placed on the altar. I did as he had said. The
milk got mixed up with the water that was already in the bowl. We continued
chatting. Suddenly, Babaji stopped talking and asked me to pour some more
milk onto the Shivling. When I took the milk-bowl to the Shivling I noticed that
the milk from the milky-water had been drunk and only the clear-water
remained. I panicked. At this, Babaji laughed and mentioned to me: Was the
milk not meant for the Naagas? I said: Yes, but I really did not expect the
milk to actually disappear. I poured more milk on the Shivalinga and that too
got consumed!
SUBLIME STANCE
My father expressed his desire to enhance his spiritual pursuit. Babaji said
that the next time he came to our house he would induct Dad in practice of
Meditation. At his next visit Babaji had changed his attire into a white lungi.
He made Daddy sit at the Puja-altar. He then touched him on the forehead and
Dad went off....into another realm of consciousness... There, he saw a man with
long hair climbing a mountain. At some point, Babaji called out: Jaggubhai,
open your eyes and see who has come to see you. Dad opened his eyes and
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 64
saw a huge cobra wrapped around Babaji, who was sitting only a few inches
away from where Dad was. Daddy was scared and quickly closed his eyes and
did Pranam. Later Babaji told Daddy that the cobra was a Gana of Lord
Shiva and had come to bless him. A bit later, Dad realized that the person whom
he saw in his stance was, perhaps, non eother than Lord Shiva and that he
should have done Pranam to him!.
MATERIALIZATION OF NAGMANI GEM
Yet another time I had gone down to Breach Candy to pick up Babaji from the
Sun Restaurant. Somehow I had been thinking of stories of Naagas and
Nagmanis about which my mother had told me. So, after I picked up Babaji,
I took the liberty of asking him several questions, like:
m Whether he had heard about Nagmani?

m And whether it did really exist?

m Did anyone who had got a Nagmani really get rich?

m Does the Naaga actually take out the Naagmani and place it on its hood
so that it could see its prey in the light emitted by the gem?
m Do the Naagas actually kill people who try to steal it?

Babaji just nodded, knowingly, as if to say yes. When we got home I continued
with my questions to Babaji. Babaji kept replying softly. Suddenly, he turned
and asked me if I wanted so see one. I said Yes. He said OK and closed his
eyes and started whispering a prayer.
Then, as if coughing, he put his hands to his mouth. Lo and behold, out came
a black, large marble-sized Naagmani. He gave it to me to hold it my hand;
and I went around and showed it to my brother Arjun. After I had seen and felt
the Naagmani and had had enough of it, Babaji took it back and swallowed it
with a sip of water!
ABOUT REJUVINATION
During the subsequent visits Babaji also talked about research he had done in
Germany on reversing the old age process. He mentioned that many a famous
people had undergone his treatment and among them there was a famous actor
who became a father at the ripe age of 90! I was really fascinated to hear this and
was wondering about the process and whether such a thing was ever possible?
DIVINE SHIVALINGA
One Shivratri day, Babaji came to our home and during the Puja he happened
to scream and suddenly bent over in his chair. His hands came into a clasp
and he shook violently. Seconds later, he indicated to my father that he should
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 65
go near him. And we saw Babaji place a beautiful white stone Shivaling in
Dads hands. The Shivaling had a Naag protruding out of it. Indeed, it was
beautiful! Babaji said it had been materialized for Dad. The Shivalinga was
divine and I believe it was meant for Dad. After Dads death I started looking
after it. I love it and, to this day, I have the preciously divine Shivalinga.
REPLACEMENT OF FINGER-RING
On yet another occasion, my mother showed Babaji a new finger-ring she had got
at the advice of an astrologer. She asked him if it was OK for her. Babaji placed
the ring between his hands and closed his eyes. His hands shook violently. Then
the hands stopped shaking and he opened his eyes and unclasped his hands.
The ring was gone!. Babaji told Mummy: The ring was not meant for you, so
it is gone! Mummys face fell. A brand new precious stone, just disappeared?
What a loss she thought! Then she reluctantly asked Babaji if she could have
the ring back even if she was not to wear it.
At this, Babaji closed his eyes once again and as if he went into a prayer.
Suddenly, his hands shook violently and his hands went into a clasp. When he
calmed down, he opened his eyes and unclasped his palms. Out came a ring
smeared with Vibhuti. He handed it to my mother. As if absentmindedly
she just took it and promptly put it on. It somehow fitted her better. It was
different. As she found that, unlike her previous ring, this one was a beautiful
diamond ring.
Then Babaji said this new ring was better for her. Mom was thrilled. This ring
was not only prettier and better but it fitted much more snuggly. Besides, the
new finger-ring was to be luckier and better than the ring the astrologer had
recommended for her.
Minutes later, Babajis hands went into another clasp. He shook violently and
when he unclasped his hands. Suddenly, the old ring had reappeared! Babaji
asked Mummy to relinquish it by allowing it to be sunk into the sea-waters,
which she did.
EBB OF BABAJIS SOJOURN
Like these miraculous episodes, once he gave me a prasadi of a small
Shivalinga which I took with me to England where I had gone for my studies.
On returning, I got married and was in Mumbai for about a year. There I met
Babaji again, after more than ten years. Somehow, he had grown older and
weaker. Whenever I asked him questions about my future or a demonstration
of something supernatural, he would just smile and say: Now I am too old and
weak to do all that. Or that:I get tired. Or that:Sometime, when I feel a bit

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 66

stronger I will answer your questions!. Occasionally, he would drop by to our
house once a week and have dinner with my wife, Madhavi, and I.
DIVINE GIFT FOR MADHAVI
Babaji was very concerned about my marriage to Madhavi and would frequently
ask as to how I had selected her and got married. One day, he told us that he
wanted to perform a Puja at our home. On the appointed day, he asked me to
buy a coconut, sindur and some other things for the Puja, He came down to our
house and changed into a lungi. He then asked me to keep my hands on top of
Madhavis hands and place them on her lap. The he placed the coconut in my
hands. He then did a prayer. He asked both of us to close our eyes and pray.
Suddenly, he yelled. When we opened our eyes we saw an ice-brick held in his
hands. He gave it to me and asked Madhavi to get a large dish to keep it. When
the ice-brick melted, we saw that inside the iceblock there were small replicas
of Bhriguji, Saligramji and a Yagya-Paveet. Madhavi was stunned. She had
not seen anything like this any time before. We felt extremely blessed.
MATERIALIZATION OF FIRE IN WATER
My mother was afflicted with Cancer. I knew that my Chachaji, Late Shri.
Raj Mohan Bhandari and my younger brothers, Arjun and Gautam Bhandari
were providing her with the best possible medical treatment and care for her
in Delhi.
My wife and I were in Mumbai. I often told Babaji that the best medical care
and treatment was being given to my mother in Delhi but could I search for
some alternative, better treatment or do some prayer or something to expedite
improvement in my mothers health? He said that it was rather difficult. But
every time he came to us, I continued to talk to him about my mothers latest
condition and ask him if there was anything at all that I could do for her?
One day, when Babaji was with us, he told us that he would like to say a prayer
for her. He asked me for a four sided diya (lamp) which I had in the house. He
asked me to fill it with water which I did. Then he made me roll cotton-wool
into four 3 long wicks and soak these in water. He said a prayer and pointed
his index finger at the water-soaked cotton-wicks placed into the four-sided
lamp. Babajis finger shook in a vibration. Then he asked me to place the unlit
wicks at the puja-altar and light them! To my surprise, the cotton-wicks soaked
in water caught fire and burnt so very brightly!. Babaji kept staring at it and
told me: I cannot restore your mothers health but this would certainly ease
the process.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 67

SPIRITUAL HERITAGE
Later, my mother had passed away, rather peacefully. Years thereafter, Babaji
came and stayed at my home. During those days, I used to stay alone and was
apprehensive whether I would be able to look after him.
Ultimately, four of us from different parts of Delhi came together to look after
him.
Actually, Babaji gave us the opportunity to be at his service and allow us to
look after him. Now, he was old and physically very weak and did not perform
any miracles. Nevertheless, gave us a chance to get a glimpse of his simple
human nature.
One day, he had a fall while he was in his room. At that time, he had sent me
to the next room for some errand. Suddenly, I heard him clap and I promptly
rushed into his room and and helped him get up. He sat up, had a glass of water
and continued to meet his devotees who had come to visit him, as if nothing had
happened! Babaji always remained peaceful and silent, oblivious to the needs
of his body, no matter how much it troubled him in his old age.
He seemed set an example to others and use his supernatural powers to sow
the seeds of Spirituality amongst his devotees.

REMINISCENCES OF Dr. KHAKHAR BABAJIS

MIRACLES
by
SOMESH DAYAL
(Mahesh Govinds Nephew)
MATERIALIZATION OF GEM-STUDED FINGER RINGS
My Mosi (Madhuji) and Mosaji (Maheshji) brought Babaji over to our home
in Moti Bagh, New Delhi in the fall of 1981. This was the first time I saw him
outside of Bombay and perhaps the second time outside of Mosis home at
Sputnik in Warden Road Mumbai.
After a while we got talking about my brother Dinesh who was working at the
time but was keen to go for higher education and eventually secure a better,
lucrative job. Babaji then proceeded to start a sance in the Puja room of our
home, my parents bedroom. He poured some Ganga Jal (holy water) into his
cupped hands. We saw him standing in the corner of the room at a North angle
with us sitting and facing him (though we were not supposed to keep our eyes
open). At his feet he kept a statue of Goddess Saraswati.
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 68
He began chanting some strange words in an increasingly guttural voice and
rocking on his feet. This became louder and louder and more physical with
every moment. After about ten to fifteen minutes, he suddenly made a choking
sound and threw out something from his mouth into his cupped hands. Then
he bent down and moved his hands over the idol of Saraswati deity. The water
in his hands had evaporated, rather disappeared. He pulled out something from
the deity.
What we saw in his hands were two beautiful gem-studded finger-rings. One
was to be kept in the Puja and the other to be worn by Dinesh. Not surprisingly,
it fitted his finger perfectly. Later, we showed the ring to our uncle in Bombay
who is a gemologist. After examining it in detail, he shook his head and declared
that the stone did not fit into any existing description of stones he was aware of.
It was made of an unusual type of mineral.
Dinesh wore the ring wherever he went, even kept it on while swimming. A
few months later, he began getting an idea to do an MBA abroad and started
preparing in the earnest for his GMAT (Graduate Management Aptitude Test).
He got together with his friends to do research prior to applying to the top
international colleges. Eventually, he did well not only in the exam but also in
GMAT and was selected for admission to the most prestigious business school
in Europe.
His life changed after this step, he was recruited by a leading multinational
company with which he has had a very successful career. Soon, thereafter, the
rings miraculously disappeared. They were very secure for so long but once
their purpose was solved they were gone!
Babaji gave Dinesh his love and blessings in order to allow himself to produce
his best work and get excellent results.
NAG DEVATA
I was about eight years old in the summer of 1977, when my mother, sister
and I visited India from France for the vacations. My sister Abha would be
heading back to boarding school in Dehradun in a few weeks. We stopped over
in Bombay to visit my Mosi and Mosaji.
Babaji used to visit their home on Warden Road by the sea-side, very often
in the evenings. He would bring his typewriter there and type letters to his
devotees or he would just sit on the sofa talking to us as we sat on the carpet in
facing him. On this particular day he was sitting as usual without his shoes but
with his socks on and constantly shaking and crossing his feet.
As Abha had been asking Babaji on many occasions, for several years now,
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 69
she asked him again playfully as to why he did this with his feet. Usually, he
would dismiss her questions but on this day he surprisingly asked her if she
really wanted to know the answer. Intrigued, she urged him to tell her. Babaji
then said there was an out-of-thisworld invisible being that was protecting him.
When he saw the look of disbelief on Abhas face he quietly asked if she did not
believe him, would she like to see this entity? She went on and agreed thinking
it was a game or some such other thing!.
Babaji proceeded to go to the Puja room and shut the door. He was inside
for around ten minutes; then he opened it and gestured for my Mother, Mosi,
Mosaji, Abha and me to come in single file quietly with our hands folded. None
of us expected to see what we did. Babaji was standing with his hands folded
diagonally facing the big double bed in the middle of the room.
In the corner facing him was Mosis Puja stand. On the bed was a huge grey
cobra, lying coiled-up with its hood and neck up as if in a snake charmers
act. It was looking at us with its hood turned towards us as we entered the
room. Babaji was saying in hushed tones that it was a form of Nag Bhagwan,
a spiritual being from a far away cold planet and would not be able to remain
long in Bombays hot climate.
As we filed into the room, inches away from the Deity, Babaji asked us to touch
its the head and pray. We were not scared as the deity appeared to be a loving
and compassionate Devata. Abha asked Babaji if the touch would be slimy.
From what I remember it was cool and soft. We then prayed in front of the
Puja for a few minutes before Babaji asked us to leave so that he could send the
Deity back. A bowl of milk was kept for the deity to drink and it was empty by
the time it left the room.
The experience left a lasting impression on me. From that day onwards, I was
convinced that there were higher forces at work in our lives, that we were
not alone and that God did exist in some form. Babaji was connected to this
divine realm and there was so much to learn from him. Also, he was protected
throughout the turbulent times of his life, his hectic lifestyle and his own
advancing age. Once, he was even mobbed and stabbed in the back by some
miscreant at a railway station in Bombay, but he survived by the grace of God
and his divine protective forces.
Dropping Babaji at His Home
Once it was raining heavily in Bombay; and we could find no taxi for Babaji to
go home in. He insisted that we should not take the trouble of dropping him; but
finally Mosaji prevailed upon him. It was the first time we were going to
see where he lived.
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 70
He was quiet throughout the drive and it seemed to me that he was not very
pleased for us to accompany him. When we finally reached the destination,
after driving for hours together in the dark on a rainy night, I was amazed to see
his home! It was in the shape of a long cave or dormitory with no windows.
Inside, we saw rows and rows of poor children sleeping on the floor. In contrast,
here he was looking quite respectable in his suit and tie; the whole scene at his
home was quite surreal. He gestured that he was fine and we could go back
now. I turned to watch him as I was leaving and he was still standing there in
the middle of the group of sleeping-children.
For a moment, I thought was this really his home? or was he here merely to
help some kind of poor souls? I guess this only adds to the mystery surrounding
Babajis unusual but enriching, spiritual life.

EPILOGUE
We, as Devotees, are extremely fortunate that by the blessings of the Divine,
we had the unique opportunity not only to meet but also interact with a
truly realized, unassuming and benign Saintly personage like Dr. H. Khakhar
Babaji during the current Kali Yuga (Iron Age).
That is, during the period when, amongst the triputi-avatar (triad of Divine
Incarnation), the first avatar Shri Shirdi Sai Baba and the second one Sri Sathya
Sai Baba had already descended on the Planet Earth, lived a life Divine and
have since shed their mortal coils to merge with the Supreme.
These Saints, Savants and the Incarnates, by dint of their exemplary spiritual
lives, have provided us a glimpse of the beautiful Super-Natural world beyond,
of Pure Love, Righteousness and Truth, all of which soaks in the riches of
indescribable joy and pristine bliss at all times.
These Incarnations have proved beyond doubt that the Unseen Power, call it
by whatever name you like, guards us, cares for us and protects us all along,
enabling us to live our karmas with joy, provided we have unflinching faith
and learn to surrender to the Cosmic Will. As He alone is the Master-Doer
(parameshwar), in the mundane Universe, which is His Divine-Play (maya).
Conforming to the ancient and traditional gurushishya parampara or spiritual
prefect-pupil tradition, modern Saints like Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji and many
others, by virtue of their constantcontact with their Gurus possessing the
Prowess of Cosmic Consciousness could verily perform as Its instrument, at
will, for alleviating the sufferings of the millions of their devotees, within the
ambit of each ones providence and in tune with the karmiclaw.

APT QUOTATIONS
THE ROSE
If you doubt there is a God, look deep into a Rose;
See the velvet petals formed by the folded bud unclose;
Note the tint and texture and the lovely coloring;
Could the blind nature of itself evolved so fair a thing?
Feel the softness of the petal, breathe the fragrant scent;
Need you waste another thought on further argument?
Here is the proof of a Creator;
God made manifest;
In this little Rose, we see Divinity Expressed!

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 77

We live, move and have our being in the great time-space continuum. From our
childhood we become conscious of the of the space filled-in with objects and
the time as a factor in measuring two point in the space or two events occurring
therein. These two factors take possession of us in our childhood and they do
not leave us till we die. Out of this possession arise the basic cognitive elements
and our emotions, desires and volitions depend upon them.
This possession grows during our formative years and in course of time we
regard time and space as the two absolutes determining our life. Of course,
we do realize that multiple absolute is a contradiction in terms. But we get
so used to this wrong concept of the term that its rejection by logic and also
by modern science, makes us feel as if we are uprooted from the solid soil of
reality and are thrown into a great time-less, space-less void.
The Vedantists as well as the old philosophers of the West tell us that the World
of Objects as experienced by our sense organs exist only in our mind and not in
reality. When we dwell on such thoughts, we get lulled into a reverie where life
loses its meaning as grasped by us through our physics is a mere fringe of the
enveloping metaphysics the fringe which tickles our senses.
According to the scientists, the world is not composed of just matter and
energy it is a limitless electromagnetic field in which billions and trillions
of Electrons whirl about with Protons at their centers. Such Protons cannot
be regarded as matter, as the usual definition of matter cannot be ascribed to
it. In other words, the world is composed of energy which in different stages
assumes different forms of matter.
They assert that when the vast cosmic picture is fully revealed, the abyss
between macrocosm and microcosm the very big and the very small will
surely be bridged and the whole complex of the universe will resolve itself into
a homogeneous fabric in which matter and energy are indistinguishable and
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 78
all forms of motion from the low-wheeling of the galaxies to the wild-flight
electrons transform to be a mere change in the structure and concentration of
the primordial field.
According to the practical experience of our sense organs, a solid matter is
one which has no holes or empty spaces within it. The Scientists mock at such
concept of ours and declare that there may be billions of empty spaces in the
solid paperweight on our table although our sense organs cannot see them.
Well, millions of Electrons will surely have innumerable empty spaces among
them, howsoever firmly they be held together to form a solid object.
In scientific analysis, our conception of animates and inanimate fares no better
than our concept of matter and energy. Life is merely a form of evolution of the
un-evolute (dormant or un-evolved) energy and such forms may be innumerable.
In things inanimate the evolution remains unmanifested whereas in the animate
it gets manifested. In the animate life expresses itself in pulsation of energy
whereas in inanimate the expression of pulsation cannot be experienced by
our sense organs although it exists all the same. In our commonly held belief
the mental energy differentiates the human beings from the animal and plant
kingdom. According to our scientists, mental energy can be measured in many
ways and some aspects of our mental energy can be equated with to that of
the animal kingdom. This negatives the self-imposed superiority of the human
mind.
Mind and matter are thus reduced to the common denominator, i.e., expression
of the primordial energy only the expression of the energy differs, one being
more subtle than the other. Our sense organs can cognize only the grossest
expressions and the more subtle expressions are beyond their capacity of
perception. Our great Rishis actually experienced this primordial energy and
sang in ecstacy isha vasyamidam sarvam, yat kinchit jagatanjagat. Replace the
word isha by the modern wprd energy and the sentence appears in nutshell
the conclusions so far reached by science at the present day.
Such subtle thought of old philosophy and modern science cannot be
comprehended in their fullness by our mind as it is conditioned by our sense
organs. Pur mind is not a proper instrument for fully apprehending the physical
laws as these have their Origin in the non-physical existence of which our mind
knows little. Our mind being conditioned by the gross expression of existence
which can be apprehended by our sense organs, cannot delve into the origin of
these laws since it lies beyond the
physical sphere,

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 79

If a mind can get itself freed from the restrictions imposed on it by the sense
organs, it can dive into the ultimate depth where matter and energy submerge
in the vast existence without differentiation and apprehend the source of laws
hidden in this enveloping existence. If the mind can go beyond the sense-
consciousness, it merges with the mystic consciousness where concepts or
thoughts or sensations cease to exist. Such a stage is beyond the reach of
intellectual consciousness and hence it can neither be described nor analyzed
in terms of known to our intellect.
A mind like this can disregard the restriction of time and space which according
to the modern science are mere mental fantasia and produce something out of
nothing much against our firmly held physical law that Nothing can create
nothing. Mind in such a stage can eliminate time and space as factors in
creation. We describe the creations of such such a sublimated Mind as Miracles
just because such creations are not possible in the region cognizable to our
sense perceptions and we fail to explain the phenomena of such creations.
We look at them with awe and respect. It is a great fortune to experience such
creations and it is a great treasure in life to have the opportunity of offering
our pranam to such a Creator.
Such random thoughts come naturally to those of us who have had the good
fortune of receiving prashadees from our Doctor Baba. Just because we cannot
give a rational explanation for the sudden appearance of the PRASHADEES
we call them MIRACLES or gifts from THE GREAT UNKNOWN in our mood
of intensive excitement. When the excitement mellows down after a period,
may be a few months or a few years, our mind craves to understand the contents
of our experience. Some of us may try to paralyze this mental craving with the
force of bhakti towards the prashadees. Others may try to synthesize their
mental cravings with their bhakti.
But this synthesis is not a mere compromise between mind and faith. It is a
fusion of mind and faith on a higher level of existence where thoughts and
feelings merge and lose their individual identity. Some live in such a stage of
existence right fromtheir childhood. Take the example of Shree Ramkrishna
Paramahansa or Shree Ramana Maharshi or Shree Shirdi Sai Baba or Sri
Sathya Sai Baba. They required no conscious efforts to sublimate their mind
to the higher realm of faith. Their faith reflected itself through their highly
evolved intellect and at no stage did they experience any contradiction between
thoughts and feelings or mind and faith, which is our common experience. We
have read about Ramakrishna that he physically experienced the feelings of
pain suffered by others when his thoughts were turned towards such suffering.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 80

Thoughts and feelings are not differentiated in him both of them in unison
form his existence.
Others, say like Swami Vivekananda, had to elevate their intellect to make it a
suitable surface for faith to reflect through it. Faith reflects itself only through
ignited intellect. Our un-ignited intellect is too shoddy for faith to reflect through
and hence we experience contradiction between our mind and faith.
Ignition and sharpening are no synonymous. You can sharpen a matter with
another matter. Our intellect is determined by the actions and reactions between
our sense organs and the objective material world. We can, therefore, sharpen
our intellect with the information gathered about the objective world. Ignition,
on the other hand, is the direct effect of energy on matter. Intellect, therefore,
requires energy for ignition and not information which is nothing but matter as
it relates to matter. This energy lies hidden in us and not outside us. It requires
great efforts to activate this energy lying dormant in us, to get our intellect
ignited.
Igniting the intellect is a lifelong effort it may also be an effort covering many
lives. However, this should not dissuade us from taking the first step towards
such an effort. If our step is wrong we shall discover our mistakes sooner or
later and channel our endeavours to the right direction.
Many of us must have seen on the stage how a powerful hypnotist plays
with the mind of some members of the audience. He plays with their mind
as we play with a football. When we see a mind affecting the other mind as
one matter affecting another, our commonly conceived demarcation between
jadatva (gross matter) and manas (subtle mind) gets blurred. Manomaya
Jagat (subtle world) and Jadomaya Jagat (gross world) appear to be the two
sides of the same coin. If we are convinced that a mind can affect another mind
and make the latter behave like matter, then we can also imagine that a mind
can affect the quality, size, shape or contents of matter. Prashadees either in
the form of Rudrakshamala or an idol of metal or stone or a living bird or a
sudden reduction in the pain suffered by a patient, should no more be regarded
as a Miracle or as a gift from The Great Unknown it is a gift from the
Mind of our Doctor Baba whose physical presence is familiar to us though
his mind remains shrouded in a great mystery.
Unfortunately our mind being conditioned by our sense organs can only
perceive matter and can go no further. It cannot help us to understand other
mind, let along the great mind of our Doctor Baba. We may perhaps argue
that the mind of our Doctor Baba which produces such prashadees is
different from his mind based on his sense organs.Does it mean that Baba
Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 81
has two minds to be utilized at different occasions? Well, our commonsense
disallows such a proposition. On the contrary, it suggests that Babas mind
works in two different stages of existence. The lower mind of Baba based on
his sense organs is not differentfrom ours; and, therefore, cannot act differently.
When it gets sublimated or ignited it is no morebound by the tentacles or the
sense organs andtherefore it goes beyond the bounds of time-space continuum.
We are accustomed to time and the three dimensional space. There may be some
beings, sayinsects over or under the earth, who may have the conception of two
dimensional space only. Will they not stare at us for having the conception of
the three dimensional space and in addition time as well? Similarly, we too
stare at those great souls whose Sublimated Mind is free from all dimensional
restrictions and feel the realities months and years ahead and in distant lands.
Our logical conclusions will be that when the Mind of Doctor Baba gets
sublimated (may be, conscious efforts are made by him towards the process of
sublimation) space loses its properties and time is no more required to measure
two points in the space or two events occurring on it. Prashadees just appear
they require no time to travel through space. In such sublimated existence
Time Still Stands Still !

ABOUT THE COMPILER
An octogenarian, Dr. K. Dileep Kumar, hails from
a spiritually evolved family. His great grandfather,
Jeevan-mukt Late Rao Bahadur Lallubhai
Goverdhandas, an ordinary family-man happened to
be the Guru of Brahmaleen Swami Prakashanandji,
popularly known as Godadia Maharaj, the famous
Saint from Telugu Desam (now Andhra Pradesh).
His forefathers were legal luminaries and outstanding
administrators who excelled for their patriotism,
diplomacy, sincerity and devotion to duty, during the
British rule in India. His great grandfather Lallubhai
had held coveted government offices, such as, district collector, magistrate and
commissioner in Belgaum. He was a vedic scholar, well-versed in Sanskrit
and used to conduct spiritual discourses not only in English but also in Urdu,
Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati languages.
His grandfather, Late Chandulal Lallubhai had an illustrious tenure in the Salt
& Excise Department in the British government. After retirement, he was
elected as the Mayor of Surat City. Mr. Kumars grand uncle, Late Maneklal
Lallubhai, also served as district collector of Bombay and was awarded the title
of Rao Bahadur, besides being bestowed with the rank of Order of the British
Empire (OBE) as well as that of the Commander of Indian Empire (CIE) by
King Edward VI. Post-retirement, he was appointed Diwan of Junagadh in
Gujarat and that of Travancore-Cochin in South India.
Late Kanaiyalal Chandulal, his father, following the family tradition of serving
the then British Government; he had held offices as Salt Revenue Officer and
later as Deputy Collector in Bombay. He remained in the forefront as an officer-
in-command, while Mahatma Gandhiji undertook his famous Dandi March
in protest of collection of Salt Revenue. It was none other than Kanaiyalal,
a staunch nationalist, who permitted Gandhiji to pick a handful of salt as a
token of rightful protest. Spirituality was inborn in him; as such, he too used to
deliver lectures on religion and spirituality at temples of worship in Mumbai.
He was an author of several books written in English, Hindi and Gujarati.
Dr. Kumars uncle, Late Manashchandra Chandulal was a businessman; but
as providence would ordain it, he took to sainthood and was known as Swami
Atchyutdeo Paramhans, of Narmada Sagar. He, too, has written half a dozen
books on spirituality.

Miracles of Dr. H. Khakhar Babaji 90

Unlike his forefathers, Mr. Kumar chose not to be a government servant and
opted to work for the private sector. Dr. Kumar holds a masters degree in
mathematics and a doctorate in scientific management. As a longtime member
of professional bodies like the institutes of chartered accountants, company
secretaries, cost accountants and management auditors, he has specialized in
the fields of finance, costing, management audit and corporate law. He has also

after twenty-seven years of ever rising tenure with a multi-national company
called Recondo Limited, specializing in civil engineering, construction of
quality roads and thermal cooling towers. Post retirement, he was appointed as
corporate governance advisor to the same company for over six years.
For the next over thirty years up to now, he has been devoting his time and
talent to reputable companies in the field of corporate governance. Presently,
