NETWORK CABLES

1 CO-AXIAL CABLES

Co-axial cables isd invented in 1880s coax was best known as the kind of
cable that connected televisions sets to home antennas. It supports 10MbPS
Ethernet cables. There are two kinds of co-axial cables THINNET(10BASE2)
and THICKNET(10BASE5) .It consist of an inner copper wire of varying
thickness surrounding by insulation and shielding.Their stiffness caused
network administration.

2 TWISTED PAIR CABLES

It is emerged in 1990s as the leading cabling for Ethernet starting with

10MbPS(BASET,also known as CAT 3),later followed by improved version
100MbPS(100BASE-TX,CAT 5)and successfully higher speed up to
10GbPS(10GBASE-T) Ethernet twisted cables consist up to eight wires wound
together in pairs to minimize electromagnetic interference.

There atre two types :UNSHIELDED TWISTED PAIR and SHIELDED TWISTRED
PAIR

3 FIBRE OPTICS

Fibre optics network is using strands of glass and pulses of light. These are
bendable despite of using glass. It is used in long distance network like in
WAN where high volume of communication traffic is common.

There are two types:1 SINGLE MODE(100BASE BX) 2 MULTIPLE MODE

(100BASE SX)

4 USB(UNIVERSAL SERIAL BUS CABLES)

Most of these cables connect computer with peripheral device(keyboard or

mouse) rather than to other computer. However, special network
adapters(sometimes called Dongles)also allows connecting an Ethernet cable
to a USB port indirectly.

5 CROSSOVER CABLES

Null modem cables are one example of crossover cables. It joins two network
devices of the same type , such as two PCs or two network switches. It is
used in older times to connect two pc directly. It is identical to straight
through cables, the only difference is color-coded wires which manufactuers
have on their crossover cables for distinguishing them.NOW-A-DAYS,most of
the home networks utilize routers that have built in crossover capability.

NETWORK CONNECTIONS,

1 ANALOG MODEMS

MODEMS(a modulator/demodulator) convert analog data into digital

signals over phone lines that computer can read (DEMODULATION),whereas
from digital signals to analog data signals is known as (MODULATION).It has
common speed 14.4 kbps,28.8 kbps and 33.6 kbps also currently fastest
speed is 56 kbps. Its cost is around 20$ per month

2 ISDN(INTEGRATED SERVICES DIGITAL NEYTWORK)

ISDN is fully digital signsals over copper phone wires , standard telephone
lines . there is no converswion from digital to analog like in modem .
mostlytelep[hone companies use this isdn and it is availaible in large
metropolitan ararteas its speed ranging from 64kbps to 128kbps its lower
cost is $64 it is starting costs and ends upto high $200

3 DSL (digital subscriber lines )

it is also known as xdsl , it is another broadband service that any telephone

companies and other providers offer to consumers it is composed of sevral
subcategoris the m,ost common being asdl (asymmetric digitral subscriber
;linme )
