IITPSA (Institute of Information Technology Professionals South Africa) is the new name for Computer
Society South Africa (CSSA). The Institute is a South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) recognised
professional body.

We are delighted to welcome you to the Professional Body of ICT Practitioners in South Africa and hope
that your membership will be both long term and beneficial.

In order to help orientate you to the affairs of the Institute, we have prepared this Welcome Pack for you
to highlight various aspects of membership and to clarify the IITPSA structures and some of the benefits of
being a member.

1. Membership Grades and Post-nominal Letters

Membership of the Institute is categorized by grade for individual members, depending on your
qualifications and experience, and range from Student, through Affiliate, Associate Member
(AMIITPSA), Full Member (MIITPSA) and Professional Member (PMIITPSA), to Fellow (FIITPSA). Apart
from Student, Affiliate and the institutional / company grades, all other membership grades are
voting grades of the Institute, which entitles the members to elect Office Bearers and vote on any
Institute matters which require voting (e.g. on changes to the IITPSA Constitution at the Institutes
Annual General Meeting).

All voting members are entitled to use the appropriate post-nominal letters for their grade after their
names (e.g. MIITPSA), as long as the member remains a member in good standing (i.e. annual
membership fees are paid, etc.).

2. Institute Structure

In terms of the IITPSA Memorandum of Incorporation and associated Rules, the IITPSA is governed by
a Board of Directors and the IITPSA Executive Council (consisting of elected Chapter Chairs, other
elected Exco members and the IITPSA Executive Director & CEO) and is divided into regional Chapters.

We currently have active Chapter participation in Gauteng, the Western Cape and KwaZulu Natal.
Please consult the IITPSA website or contact the IITPSA Secretariat (National Offices) if you would like
to get in touch with the Chapter in your area.

We also have numerous Special Interest Groups (SIGs) focusing on diverse areas of interest, such as
software testing, enterprise architecture, business and systems analysis, etc. and we do encourage
you to get involved in any of the areas that interest you.

3. Social Networking

IITPSA is busy growing its Social Networking presence, and we have quite a large, active group on
LinkedIn. We also have a presence on Facebook, as well as on Twitter. Here are the links for each of

4. Further Education, Continuing Professional Development and Lifelong Learning

All members are encouraged to continue developing themselves professionally, through courses,
seminars, workshops, etc. The IITPSA offers some of these, and endeavours to get member discounts
for many more such events arranged by external third parties (e.g. ITWeb, Marcus Evans, etc.).

Professional members of the IITPSA (those graded as PMIITPSA, which is also an NQF registered
professional designation) are required to maintain their own development through continuing
professional development (CPD) in order to maintain their professional status.

IITPSA, in collaboration with the Australian Computer Society (ACS), also offers the Computer
Professional Education Programme (CPEP), which is a fifteen month postgraduate ICT qualification.

5. Member Benefits

Apart from benefitting by being a member of a SAQA recognised professional body, and being able to
show adherence to a code of professional conduct and practice, IITPSA membership entitles you to
various other benefits. These include, amongst others, significant product and service discounts, such
as:

A fifty percent discount on hard-drive data recoveries or data forensic services and a ten
percent discount on certain storage or external devices from Computer Storage Services
International.
Online data backup facility at fifty percent discount from CipherWave (CipherArchive Lite
product with a 100GB account).
Conference / seminar / workshop discounts
A twenty percent discount on all anti-virus products available from AVG South Africa.

Members will also receive a monthly e-Newsletter from the IITPSA and are able to register to
participate in the discussion forums that are hosted on the IITPSA website.

Whilst we have tried to cover the essential elements of IITPSA membership, we obviously cannot include
