This is achieved by determining the temperature rise resulting at the contact interface at specified current levels. The temperature rise at a given current level plus the ambient operating temperature should not exceed the temperature rating of the test sample. Thus, the current rating of the system decreases as the operating ambient increases. 1 data can also be uscd to determine potential local “hot spots” internal to the test sample, possible degradation factors, thermal effects on adjacent areas and/or the acceptability for use of pulsing techuigues . PROCEDURE: 1. The test was performed in accordance with EIA 364, TP 70. 2. Test Conditions: a) Current Levels : 1,3,5 amps b) No. of Contacts in Series Five ©) Nerating Curve + Yes d) Termination : Solder 3. The test samples were prepared to accept thermocouples at the appropriate locations. 4. The T-Rise was wouilored on Lie middle pusition of the five contacts in series. 5 Contech Research 5. an additional thermocouple was placed 2” outside of the test samples adjacent to the locations to be monitored. This is accomplished to evaluate the impact of ambient conditions. The thermocouples were attached to a data ac! scanner system which in turn was lulezcuuecled Lu a plotter. or room which the 7. The test specimen was placed in a ch prevents air currents and the Like, observations 8. The current level indicated was applied until temperature stabilization was reached 9. Temperature stabil on is defined as no change in T-Rise greater than + 1°C over @ 15 minute interval REQUIREMENTS: The temperature rise shall be measured and recorded and a curzent derating curve established. RESULTS: 1, Figures #01 thru 03 indicates the temperature rise characteristics at 1, 3 and 5 amps. The following is a summary of the data shown on these plots: CURRENT. VEL, TEMPERATURE RISE (°C) 2.0 amp 26.7 Ts 3.0 amp 40.2 ~ 5.0 amp 65.8 ee he derating curve is evaluated with a maximum connector operating temperature of 105°C. The base curve is created by the data from Figures 01 thru 03. The derated curve is 20% from the base curve 3. The current carrying capacity is defined operating ambient (equipment) plus the T-Rise shall not exceed the maximim connector operating temperature CFR Contech Research c OBT <2:S339N99) - SYNLVasANAL -4NST GWVete-DEZOB xia 08F i a a a A @ x 3 2 9 i" I 4 y a 2 ad a x ’ " Buns Buraeuedpyy7/ ‘eAuno peyueg—--~ “anuno espg— ASL/MSS INI SaLWyS ALTSVdV3 ONT ANY’ LNAYAN CER
