I. Learning Objectives
At the end of 1 hour, Grade7-Marangal students should be able to:
a. create a model of plane figure using measuring materials
b. differentiate polygon from non-polygon figures by means of sketching
c. categorize the kinds of polygons by using variety of graphic organizer

II. Subject Matter

A. Preliminary Activities
B. Drill
C. Review
Last meeting, we talked about lines
and line segments. Again, what is a
line? A line is endless and infinite.

Thats right! How about a line

segment?
A line segment has 2 endpoints.
Take a look on this book. How many
line segments are there in its
shape? Since the shape of the book is
rectangle, there are 4 line segments.

Very good. Now, how do we call the

shapes whose sides are all line
segments?

D. Motivation
E. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
I have here an activity; I have here
list of questions and list of figures.

I will going to tell you the question

and to you are going tell the number
of figures I talking to.

Possible answers:

1. 1,2.3.7
2. 18,17,22,23
3. 7,24,12
4. 4,19
5. 14,12, 11

List of questions:

1. Figure with 4 sides

2. Figure with 3 sides
3. Figure equal sides
4. Uncommon figures
5. Figure with more than 4
sides

2. Analysis

Today we are going to discuss about

Polygons. And what are polygons?

Polygons are plane figures whose

sides are all line segments.

Now, take a look on these two

Figure A, is a polygon.
figures, which among them is a
polygon?

Figure A is a polygon because all of

its sides are line segments.

Why do you say so?

.Very good. The points where 2 line
segments meet is called
vertex/vertices.

There are different kinds of

polygons depending on the number
of its sides and angles. Study the
table.

Triangle.

Familiarize yourselves on the kinds

of polygons for 5 minutes and we are
going to name different figures 4 sides, 4 angles, Quadrilateral
later. 5 sides, 5 angles, pentagon.
6 sides, 6 angles, hexagon
(After 5 minutes)

Take a look on the figures on the

board and lets study them one by
one.

How many line segments are there

in the figure #1?
Polygons are figures whose are all
line segments.
How many angles are there?

So, What kind of Polygon it is?

Vertex
Now, Im going to point the figure
and tell, how many line
segments/sides and angles it has
and what kind of polygon it is.
Triangle, Quadrilateral, Pentagon,
Hexagon

(The teacher is going to present

more figures.)

3. Abstraction

What are polygons?

How do you call the common

endpoint where two line segments
meet?

Can you name some kinds of

polygons?

4. Application

You are to be grouped into 4.

Count off.

Each group prepare for a paper

basket and then everyone of you will
write his/her name in a sheet of
paper then fold it and place it in the
basket of your group. I will draw one
for Group 1 and group 11, I will point
at a figure on the board and you are
to identify what kind of polygon it is.
The two who were called will start at
the back. Every correct answer
corresponds to 1 step forward.(First
to answer will be considered.) Every
after a correct answer will change
the participants. (2 points each
correct answer)
F. Assignment
Make an art using the different kinds
of polygons on a short bond paper.
