A. Abstract

The title of my paper awesome paper title to go here and my Project title Equally

awesome title to come here are both about and learning experiences for the overall topic of

fantasy sports with the legitimacy and legality of gambling on it. I am personally invested in this

topic, to the point where I manage over twenty-five fantasy sports teams throughout the year.

Over the last two years, it has been incredibly difficult for my fellow students and I to continue

to play or manage fantasy teams because of the attempts by advocates to have certain forms

of fantasy sports labelled as illegal gambling. Recently, playing certain websites for fantasy

sports is treated like a proverbial black market, or back alley bookey for illegal gambling. I

chose this topic because I feel if people are better versed in it, then it can continue to be a hobby

for all ages.

Throughout the paper and project I am going to be led by some guiding questions. These

will assist me as I conduct my research. The guiding questions I will be using to further my

research are as follows.

What are the parameters for competitive fantasy sports to be considered gambling?

According to the literature, should fantasy sports even be considered a form of gambling?

What are the baseline definition and guidelines for fantasy sports?

How do rules and regulations pertaining to fantasy sports vary from state to state?

B. Learning Skills

New Skills:

Planning and organizing a advocacy seminar

Professional communication with real world experts in the field

Understanding algorithms and statistical models in order to increase my expertise in this

topic

Master objectivity on a subject or topic that I am passionate about

Enhanced Skills:

Presentation skills to set up and execute my event

Marketing an event to targeted audiences

Changing focus from a participant in fantasy sports to an advocate

Enhancing my oratory skills to run my event smoothly and without problem

C. Marketing Plan, Facilities, Audience

The Target Audience for my project will be people who participate in fantasy sports, and

those who are in a quandary on whether to participate or not. These will be those who are the

most susceptible to the information I will be conveying, they will receive not only information

regarding participation in fantasy sports, but also lecture from a judge (which I hope to secure)

who will speak about the legality of fantasy sports, or at least the legislation or bills in effect

within fantasy sports. They will benefit from this information because it could prompt many who

were unsure to participate in fantasy sports, and they will do so in compliance with all legislation

in place or what could be put into place. My demographic and age group for this project is very

wide, children from around sixth grade all the way through adults who play fantasy sports exist,

and I hope to have people from everywhere in between at my project. The Marketing strategies I

would use will include, Tweets about the events and information therein, Placing ads for it on all

of my google classroom classes with a teacher's permission, and I will have friends and family

make facebook post about my event to broaden my pool of individuals attending. My venue is

going to be a lecture hall of sorts and that allows me to have numerous attendees at my project

while bringing their attention to my guest speaker(s).

D. Project Steps

Preliminary Steps Create an ideal agenda for 6 Hours

my project, including a list of
speakers and activities.
Contact consultant for advice
on venue and recommended
speakers.

Midway Steps Take consultant's advice and 9 Hours

make changes to my working
agenda, adjusting those
speaking and venue if
necessary. Begin setting up
meeting with speakers to
coordinate lectures and
activities.

Later Steps Send final agenda to all those 10 Hours

involved, confirm dates and
times with venues. Final
contact with Speakers and
complete multiple run
throughs of project.

Follow Up Post-Project cleanup. Thank 2 Hours

E. Project Documentation

I will document my project and project process in the following ways:

Photographs

Journals

Saving emails

Saving any correspondence between individual assistants

Keep a log for all expenses throughout the project

Have a sign in book for all Volunteers helping in my project and also to record those who

attend my project

F. Project Justification

My project is a quality one because my topic is one not many people are well versed in

and it's an on the rise issue. As for the project being a stretch for me, it is, i'm going to have to

make a difficult transition from participant to advocate in Fantasy sports which will force me to

look at it as an issue instead of a hobby. This is an entirely new arena of earning for me, but

throughout the project I feel I will grow and learn a lot. As the project occurs I hope to

accomplish a successful planning of a large scale event, and also to have people leave my

seminar with a new outlook on the idea of fantasy sports, especially those who had previously

condemned it because of their views.

G. Project-Paper Connection

The project will be an extension of my paper on a level because it will have the same

advocation. The paper will concentrate on law concerning fantasy sports going state by state, and

in my seminar I will concentrate on the law in Virginia. The project is what I hope to be a real

world extension of my paper in which I continue my advocation and change peoples minds, and

make a difference. The project in my opinion will be an extension of my research paper as well

as an improvement in execution.

H. Academic Honesty

I understand that any academic dishonesty by me on any part of the project will result in failure

of the Senior Project and forfeiture of the Legal Studies Seal on my High School diploma.

I. Parent agreement

As a First Colonial High School, Legal Studies Academy parent, I recognize all parts of the Senior Project

are graduation requirements and I intend to support my student throughout the process. However, I will at

no time do any of the work for my student or falsify any documentation, such as consultant agreements,

absence/excuse notes.

I understand the physical project must be a product or performance which takes at least 20 hours outside

of class time to complete, and which challenges my son/daughters current skills and knowledge.

Additionally, I recognize I may obtain needed information via the Senior Project Manual; posted online.
Jahn 7

I fully understand this project selection decision is made independently of the staff and administration of

First Colonial High School. The project selection and approval is parent and student-centered. Final

approval for the project is governed by the Senior Project Advisory Board.

Due to the importance of the Senior Project, submittal of a project without approval will result in a failure

or forfeit of Legal Studies Graduation. Thus, if the project or consultant is altered or changed, a Project

Revision Form must be submitted by October 21, 2016.
