NALOXONE

CLINIC
Jefferson County Department of Health (JCDH) has
started a free clinic for anyone who wants to get basic
instruction and information on the use of naloxone,
a medicine that can reverse an opioid overdose.

SPREAD THE WORD! IM AFRAID!

If you know anyone who may benefit from this, or you
have a direct or indirect connection to any programs
that reach out to drug addicts or their families, please
let them know about this service. You may have these
connections through your place of worship or your
schools. People who might need a prescription for
naloxone include the following:
WHO SHOULD HAVE NALOXONE
CLOSE BY?
Heroin or prescription opioid addicts, either actively
using or in recovery (note that the highest risk of death
is during a relapse, and relapse is common)
Family members, roommates, or friends of addicts
People who are legally prescribed high potency opioid
pain medicines
Addiction recovery groups or support groups
Halfway houses or transition homes for people coming
out of acute addiction treatment or incarceration
A
 nyone else who may be in a position to help someone
during an overdose situation
Dont be...a new law in Alabama
grants civil and criminal immunity
to anyone using naloxone to assist
someone experiencing a suspected
opioid-related overdose, provided they
have received basic instruction and
information on how to administer the
naloxone. In short, help save a lifeno

LAW ENFORCEMENT
The law allows for law enforcement
officers to carry naloxone, but requires
that the Alabama Department of Public
Health (ADPH) approve a training
program by January 2016. Police and
sheriff s departments will have to make
their own decision about whether to
carry naloxone, depending on the need
and the resources available.
