What well learn

Today, we will look at how both liberals and conservatives brought about positive change in
England in the 1800s and early 1900s. We will trace the expansion of voting rights to
different groups of men. Then well learn about a key female leader who played a major
role in shaping British society in the 1800s.

By the end of this class, you should be able to

Summarize how the Liberal and Conservative party helped bring a new era to British
parliament.
Identify the social and economic reforms benefiting British workers and others.

Why this matters

Were starting to get to the era where history starts to look a lot more like the modern day.
Before we get there, though, we need to get to a point where everyone had civil rights. In
the era well discuss today, Britain took one major step forward in that regard.
