Summary

What makes effective teachers effective?

Teaching is good professions in almost any country. The biggest amount of money is

being invested in teacher professions in order to bring useful and quality education. Teacher is

the great and significant instructor for the children after their parents. Teacher has to established

capability to improve students achievement. In order to feed the students with new idea and

knowledge, the teacher has to learn more. The teachers effective instructional planning,

instructional delivery, and assessment for learning can have good impact on the students.

The teachers knowledge of contain, dispositions, caring students well-being, and

classroom management also affect positively to the achievement of the students. Instructional

planning influences the content of instruction, the sequence and cognitive demands of subject

topics, learning activities and students opportunities to learn, and the pacing and allocation of

instructional time. Deep reading of the textbook can help instructional planning. Collaboration in

planning with other teachers, planning not limited to traditional resources, data-driven planning,

efficiency in translating plans into actions, and ability to predict in planning troublesome areas

for student learning are the teachers significant instructional planning qualities.

Instructional delivery is another aspect of effective teacher. Teacher with the same

background qualifications and same schooling resources do different things in their classrooms

and, consequently, enable their students to achieve at different levels. Instructional practices are

theorized to influence student learning directly, whereas teacher background qualifications and

teacher attitudes are theorized to influence learning indirectly through their association with

instructional practices.

Assessment of learning is also another important area of effective teacher. Effective

teacher should adept to monitoring student problems and assessing their level of understanding

and progress, and provided much more relevant, useful feedback because teacher who monitor

their students progress exhibit greater concerns about student learning and higher academic

emphasis in their instruction. So, teacher should have differentiated assignments to be effective

teacher.

Reflection

The article what makes effective teachers effective? has many ideas that has also

impact my way of thinking about teaching in the classroom. I realize that the huge amount of

money is being invested in education department and also to the teachers. It means teachers are

expected to be excellent and effective. The idea and the content of this article is not very new but

I didnt acknowledge it before. I knew that I have to plan lesson very carefully, deliver

instruction effectively, and I have to assess students normally but yet I can contrast and explain

my initial knowledge and my current understanding about instructional planning, instructional

delivery, and learning assessment. Now, I understand that the particular quality of the effective

teacher that they have to have instructional planning. In my future teaching, I will collaborate

with other teacher and I will not limit my understanding with me. But I will make effective

instructional plan by reading variety of textbooks and consulting with the one who has more

abilities and experience how to plan effective instruction.

I should have to improve my instructional delivery because not every student are able to

understand one particular instruction. So, in my future teaching, I will have differentiated

instructional delivery so that the students can understand my teaching or what I am going to

convey. I need to focus on adapting myself to the students environment so that they can get the

clear meaning.

I also need to improve my assessment of/for learning for the students. I did not

effectively assess students learning in my last teaching in SPH Cikarang. I checked students

paper but I did not effectively confirm the answers. The students had right answer and I just said

your answer is correct. So, I will correct and improve my way of assessing students.
