MILESTONE

Engineer Romeo Estabillo studied at Mapua Institute of

Technolgy and became an Engineer in 1981 and head back to his
hometown, Santiago City to establish his own construction firm. The
operation was successful and gained number of clients such as
prominent persons in the province of Isabela.

Engr. Estabillo has two assistants, Mr. Silvino Santiago and Mr.
Romulo Mamaril. Mr. Santiago was a third-year civil engineering who
stopped schooling due to financial difficulties. He main task was a
draftsman who produce all the documents relating to physical
requirements of the various contracts. Mr. Mamaril, the second
assistants who is assigned to administrative activities.

Three years then, Engr. Estabillo constructed a new office at

their residential compound and hired two more female assistants for
the various task performed in the office.

In his companys payroll, he found out that he has in his

employ six full-time civil engineers, two draftsmen, ten
administrative personnel, one messenger and one security guard. At
the various projects, there are foremen and laborers, and they are
contractual.

By June 1996 Engineer Estabillo felt that business was

continuously growing also he feels that he may not be able to
perform his functions effectively if he will push through with the plan,
he thinks operations are now more complex that decision making is a
must.

B. STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

Now, that the construction firm of Engr. Estabillo is growing
continuously, does he need to secure the services of civil engineers
on a full-time basis? But, what might happen if Engr. Estabillo push
that plan, will he be able to perform his functions effectively?
C. RECOMMENDATIONS

In this kind of problem, technical planning and decision-making

is what we need the most. Poor technical planning may result to big
mistakes and regrets. In the case of Engr. Estabillo, I recommend that
he should first enhance his decision-making skills in order to make his
business more efficiently operational, besides he is the owner of his
own construction firm.

Hiring the four civil engineers, are sure pain in the neck for him,
but on the other hand, if you look at the bright side, those engineers
can be a big help, especially in his continuous growing firm. He
should be competent enough to know what action to take in any
circumstances. Aside from it, it will bring more clients to his firm, it
will also be an additional profit for his firm.

D. CONCLUSIONS

In decision-making, we have to take the risk in every decision

we make with regards to our growing business. With regards to his
problem if he can still supervise all operations in his firm, proper
organization of works would be the best solution for it. If he cant
accommodate to supervise all operations, why not hire someone to
do it so? Hiring a supervisor who is qualified enough to do that job
instead would be his best solution to that problem.
