1) The Part Module

We use the part model to create, edit, and manage the parts in the current model.

To create a part, use Create Part section ( )

In this question, we use 2-D, Deformable,

Wire element.

Approximate Size: 200 (each edges of square

are 5)

Then click Continue

To form a model, the first step is creating a 50 mm long line. Click the Create Line ( )
and draw a 50 mm long line.
Click Esc to exit line sketch and click Done to exit sketch module.
2) The Property Module

We can define materials, section profiles, sections, assign sections, material orientations.

Select Property Module from Context Menu

First of all, we define our material. To define material, select Create Material ( ).
Enter the name of material Steel. Then click Mechanical tab, select Elasticity and
Elastic. Enter the values of Youngs Values 2.1E5 (because the unit of the beam is mm so
elasticity modulus unit must be Mpa), Poissons Ratio 0.3 and click OK. Now we defined
the properties of the material.
To create circular beam profile, click Create Profile icon ( ) and select Circular. Then
enter the value of r 4 and click OK.

To define the parts material, section must be created. For this, click Create Section icon (

) and create a beam section.

After creating a section you have to assign it to your model. To assign a section to your

model, you click Assign Section icon ( ) and select your model, then click Done.
You have to assign a beam section orientation to define the beams orientation. To assign it
click Assign from menu bar and choose Beam Section Orientation. Select the beam
element and click done to assign beam section.

After these steps, your models color turns to Green.

3) The Assembly Module:

We use the Assembly Module to create and modify the assembly. The model contains only
one assembly that is contains its parts.
In this part, we can integrate the parts global matrixes into Global stiffness Matrix

To assemble the part, click Instance Part icon ( ) and select part as beam and instance
type as Independent (mesh on instance). Now, we form the Global Stiffness Matrix.

4) The Step Module:

We use the step module to create analysis step, specify output requests and specify adaptive
meshing and contact controls.

Click Create Step icon ( ) to create a new step. In this analysis we do a static analysis so
we select Procedure type General and Static, General the click Continue. Our beam is
linear so, Nlgeom must be off. Then click OK

5) The Load Module:

We use the Load Module to create loads, boundary conditions and initial conditions.
Click Create Boundary Condition icon ( ) to create BC. Boundary condition is a
permanent, it is valid for all loading condition so we select step Initial, category
Mechanical and Types for selected Step Symmetry/ Antisymmetry/ Encastre tehn click
Continue to select the position of BC.

Select the node on the left (its color turns to red) and click Done from the Prompt area.

In our problem, left side of the beam is

encastre, so we select the ENCASTRE
(U1=U2=U3=UR1=UR2=UR3=0) and
click OK

After creating BC, we create the load which is determined in the problem. It is at the other
side of the beam and its magnitude is 100N. To create a load click Create Load icon ( ).
We can use different magnitude values for the load so we select step Step-1. Our problem
is a mechanical problem so we choose Mechanical Category and the desired force is
Concentrated Force then click Continue to select the node which the force is applied.
Select the node at the right side and click Done. The Edit Load Box appears.

Due to the orientation arrows ( )

define the direction of the load. In
this problem, the magnitude must
be entered -100 at CF2 because it is
at y direction

6) The Mesh Module:

We use mesh module to generate meshes on assemblies created within ABAQUS/CAE.In

addition mesh module contains functions that verify an existing mesh.

Before meshing we have to divide our model into smaller parts to use the finite element
methods. In finite element, smaller mesh size gives us more accurate results. To divide our

model into smaller elements, click Seed Part Instances icon ( ). Global Seeds tab is
opened and select approximate global Size 5 and click Apply and OK. Now your model
divided into 10 elements. (l=50, approximate size=5. 50/5=10 elements. Lower approximate
global size means more elements, more accuracy and more cost.)
To define and assign the element type, click Assign Element Type icon ( ). In this
problem, the model is beam and we want to use 1-D linear element type.
To mesh the model, click Mesh Part Instance icon ( ) and click Yes. Now elements are
generated in the model.

7) The Job Module:

We use Job Module to create an analysis job, associate the analysis job with a particular
model, submit the analysis job for processing, monitor its progress during processing, kill a
job before processing is complete and start the Visualization module and view a basic plot of
the analysis results.

To finish the analysis, create a job from Create Job icon ( ) and click Continue.
To make full analysis select Full
analysis job type and click OK.

To start the analysis, click Job Manager icon ( ) and click Submit.

When the analysis is completed ,

Job Job-1 completed successfully
message is shown in the Message
Area. If the analsis is not completed
due to errors, you can see the
problem from the Monitor.

After completing the analysis, click

Results to go to the Visualization
Module.

8) The Visualization Module

We use this part to view your model and the results of your analysis.

To see the most critical status, click Plot Contours on Deformed Shape icon ( ).
To see the nodes deformations, click Query ( ). Click Probe Values and then click
Field Output and select U to set the visuaization mode to displacement.

To see the nodal displacement, set the probe to Nodes and click nodes on the model. For
example the node whose displacement is max is found 0.09999996.
