1. Afterall the literature that was discussed is most likely you admire most study?
After the roller-coaster ride studying 21st century literature, I can finally say that it
is worth studying for. It is a good and saudade feeling tasting and taking a glimpse of the
past. I think the most essential part of studying Literature is when you see and apply the
context of it to the present situation. Literature tells me that you can still quote a poetry in
this milenial era.
2. Who among the characters that was discussed is most likely you admire most?
Why?
Self cultivation involved not only educating oneself, but also picking up on the
good traits in others and imitating them. To Confucius, imitation of successful people was
a very important aspect of good government. Even without a good education, if one
possessed some basic virtues (like respect, love of one's parents, loyalty, obedience,
humility, trustworthiness), one could be considered virtuous. However, a combination of
knowledge of ritual and of natural virtue was best. Don't be concerned about whether
other people appreciate you, or if you don't get a job. Just strive to be worthy of these
things. If people won't recognize what you have to offer, it's their loss. Examine your
character, correct the bad, and accentuate the good.
3. What lesson in life you have gained from literature. Make one sentence quotation.
I wish that we could all wake up feeling like that song from Oklahoma every day: Ive got
a beautiful feeling. Everythings going my way. But, as we all know, thats not possible.
"When life gives you lemons, make lemonade" is a proverbial phrase used to
encourage optimism and a positive can-do attitude in the face of adversity or misfortune.
Lemons suggest sourness or difficulty in life, while lemonade is a sweet drink.
To write you have to read, and to really read, you have to think, criticize, doubt,
wonder, and stand amazed by words on the page.
The English major showed me how to do that, and not only has it increased my skills
as a writer, it has made me a more compassionate and honest person.
It can teach us about the past and the present and even about the future. Subjects
can be broad and far-reaching, but can also be specific. Literature teaches us about
laughter and love, about remembering and forgetting. It can create emotion and warn us
against our many human faults. It can attempt to disprove other ideas or attempt to find
truth. I think we are all looking to find truth in some form or another.
