Abstract : The modern play Hidden Love for t he Peach Garden (Anlian taohuayuan) by Lai Sheng - chuan makes a
breakt hrough of art and writing skills in t he following t hree aspect s : ( 1) complex st ruct ure of two sto ries told in an inter2
woven way ; ( 2) t he display of t ragicomedy ; and ( 3) t he artistic use of t he signifier and t he signified.
