To Whom It May Concern:
I am currently a student at Wayne State University majoring in chemical engineering and I am looking to
utilize my laboratory and analytical experience in chemical manufacturing in the automotive industry in
the summer of 2017. Given my experience in environmental compliance, project management, and
teamwork, I am the perfect fit for the position.

Familiarity with environmental compliance in manufacturing is a key component of the General Motors
position, and my environmental experience through my internship at BASF makes me the ideal candidate.
For example, by identifying the correct procedures to dispose of chemical waste and developing ways to
limit waste production, BASF taught me the importance of proper waste handling. In addition, by
working as a bridge between research and development and the technical services team, I tested and
modified new chemical systems to fulfill customer and environmental qualifications. I realize the
importance of sustaining the environment, and BASF helped to promote and reinforce these ideas as I
move forward into the position at GM.
With my current environmental experience, I can be effective and successful at General Motors as an
environmental engineering intern. My position at BASF taught me to be a fast learner and to be effective
at project management, both of which are important as I pursue my career after college. To meet the
deadlines for the projects I worked on simultaneously, I learned how to manage my time carefully. Time
and project management were of the utmost importance as I balanced going to school full-time with
working 12-15 hours per week. These soft skills will prove to be invaluable as I balance many
environmental projects at the GM site.
During my time at BASF, I worked on the technical services team with many different people. Between
working on projects and collaborating with other team members to analyze the results, working with a
team was an integral part of the position. During the Reebok shoe project, I molded shoe parts by myself
so the project leader could take the parts to the company and analyze the results with its product
development team. With my independent work on the project in the team atmosphere, I can work
effectively with others and be an asset in the GM work environment.
Through my environmental compliance experience, project management skills, and team-oriented
mindset, the environmental engineering positon at General Motors is the ideal fit. Please view my
enclosed resume for more detailed information involving my relevant engineering and academic
experience. I look forward to discussing what I can contribute to General Motors soon. Thank you for
your time.
Sincerely,

Dexter Wilson
