Your task:
In a group of three, you will analyze one major theme from
Macbeth. Rather than make you research the themes yourself, you
will be given a theme topic. You will prepare a short teaching
presentation analyzing your assigned theme on an overhead
transparency. The class will record your analysis into their notes.

Themes
Appearance vs. Reality (Jen, Casey, Ashlee)
Nature & the Unnatural (Kim, Megan, Omar)
Gender Roles (Hannah, Micah, Katey)
Fate vs. Free Will (Taelar, Kati, Grace)

What to Prepare
1. A short explanation of what your theme means. (1-2 sentences)
2. A short paragraph explaining the development of this theme in
Macbeth and why it is important to understanding the play as a
whole.
3. A one-sentence statement of what moral lesson Shakespeare is
teaching through this theme.
4. 4-5 key quotations that reveal your assigned theme and for
each, a brief analysis. Cite the quotation (ex. I.ii.34-37) and also
include the speaker, context, and significance of the quote.
5. Please pick someone with neat handwriting to record on the
overhead.
Timing
You have the end of the hour on Monday and 25 minutes on
Tuesday to work on your overhead. This means you need to get to
work RIGHT AWAY! Spend the first 10 minutes or so talking about
your theme and coming up with a consensus about how to present
it. Then, divide up jobs within your group. For example, one person
can do #1 and #3, another person can do #2 and the third person
can do #4. You can divide the work however you wish.
