III. RATIONALE
Dalubhasaan ng Lunsod ng San Pablo (DLSP), a locally funded
public school. The school is located at Barangay San Jose San Pablo City,
Laguna. The college opened on school year 1997-1998. To be more
specific on June 15, 1997, the school was permitted to operate by the
Commission on Higher Education, likewise giving DLSP the authority to
start holding classes on July 2, 1997.
The fact that it is a public school means that there are many
students. Creating schedules for offered subjects is challenging task. The
said process was done manually since it was built. As a result the
schedule itself is inaccurate. Most of the time there are changes in the
schedule of offered subjects, even after the date of enrollment. The
students specially the irregulars change their subjects due to the conflict
on the schedules. There are times that these irregular students change
their schedules from time to time.
This is the reason why the researchers want to find a better way
and improve the scheduling of the said process by developing a DLSP-
BSIT Subject Scheduling System, system that will make the scheduling of
subjects quick and efficient.

IV. TECHNICAL PREVIEWS

The University Class Scheduling Problem (UCSP) is concerned with

assigning a number of courses to classrooms taking into consideration constraints
like classroom capacities and university regulations. The problem also attempts to
optimize the performance criteria and distribute the courses fairly to classrooms
depending on the ratio of classroom capacities to course enrollments. The problem
is a classical scheduling problem and considered to be NP-complete. It has received
some research during the past few years given its wide use in colleges and
universities. Several formulations and algorithms have been proposed to solve
scheduling problems, most of which are based on local search techniques. In this
paper, we propose a complete approach using integer linear programming (ILP) to
solve the problem. The ILP model of interest is developed and solved using the three
advanced ILP solvers based on generic algorithms and Boolean Satisfiability (SAT)
techniques. SAT has been heavily researched in the past few years and has lead to
the development of powerful 0-1 ILP solvers that can compete with the best
available generic ILP solvers. Experimental results indicate that the proposed model
is tractable for reasonable-sized UCSP problems.
To create good and optimal school schedule is very important and practical
task. Cur- rently in Lithuania schools are using two programs for making the school
schedule at the moment. But none of these programs is very effective. Optimization
Department of Lithuanian Institute of Mathematics and Informatics (IMI) has created
School schedule optimization program. It has three optimization algorithms for
making best school schedule. A user can choose not only few op- timization options
and get few optimal schedules, but some subjective and objectives parameters. The
making of initial data le is advanced in this program. XML format is used for
creating initial data le and getting all optimal results les. The purpose of this study
is to analyze used optimization algorithms used in School schedule optimization
program and to compare results with two most popular commercial school schedul-
ing programs in Lithuania.
This paper describes a case that illustrates a real-life application that is
understandable to undergraduate business students in an introductory management
science course. The case shows how to use a simple integer linear programming
model to find an optimal class schedule for a student. The case analysis is followed
by an optional assignment in which students formulate their own class schedule
using the similar approach. This case-and-assignment combination offers students
several benefits: an interesting example they can identify with, applying an
optimization method immediately in their own life, and experiencing the modeling
process from start to finish.
