LEARNER CHARACTERISTICS

We are going to focus in a group of learners of the 25 de Junio School to work with this
educational kit. They are students of 2 nd year of basic education, and they are coursing
the first scholastic year, where the age ranges from 5 and 6 years old. As we know to
work with children is a big challenge for us because we need all the time to try to catch
their attention by using different techniques and a lot of dynamics in order to avoid
distractions and disruptions in the class, although to get it is a little difficult. But in other
hand we need to teach by games because it is a better way to teach them and keep them
actives. We have to meet the students 2 times a week, 1 hour each time (one hour class is
45 minutes) totaling 2 hours per week. So, this kit has a duration of 2 weeks and a half,
with a total of 5 hours, so we have to meet our students 5 times. The kit is a guide to use
the different activities and dynamics to let students understand in a clear way the topic.
The main topics we have chosen are greetings and good manners and classroom
commands to develop the activities and dynamics in our kit.

First class (1 lesson hour: 45 minutes)

In order to introduce the class we are going to sing a song called The Greetings Song
(see in bibliography/appendix), and then we ask some questions in Spanish about
greetings such as Cmo se dice hola? Cmo se dice chao? Cmo se dice Buenos
das? Cmo se dice buenas tardes? Cmo se dice buenas noches? and other good
manners like gusto en conocerlo/la nos vemos despus in order to make a feedback of
previous knowledge. After that we are going to teach how to write and repeat each
greeting and modal to let the students understand how it pronounce each one and when
they have to use it.

Second class (1 lesson hour: 45 minutes)

In this class continuing with the last topic, we are going to watch a video about good
manners (see in bibliography/appendix) and in which situations we have to use it, then we
are going to translate the phrases in the video to the learners can relate the pictures with
that the teacher says, and finally we are going to repeat and practice it. After that we are
going to evaluate our students by some questions to see how much are they have
understood and if they can relate the situation with the different manners in the video. This
evaluation has not any mark and is a way to get relax and a little of fun with the children.
We are going to apply a dynamic which consist in a very short presentation with the
partners using for example phrases like my name is, how are you?, nice to meet you,
thank you, sorry, etc. But to make it fun, they have to push their noses and then talk in this
way. When all the students are finished we are going to correct them all the mistakes they
have done.

Third class (1 lesson hour: 45 minutes)

For this 3th day of class we are considered to stop a little bit the activities because as we
know the learners are children who are in the first grade and they are very actives and
restless for that reason we cannot fill them with a lot of information in a short time because
it could become very boring for them. So, to this day we are going to make a feedback of
the 1st and 2nd class and then they have to take a little quiz (see in bibliography/appendix)
evaluate how the children have developed their knowledge and how much information they
have acquired and saved in their brains.

Fourth class (1 lesson hour: 45 minutes)

We start with the next topic which is classroom commands and we are going to watch a 3
minutes video (see in bibliography/appendix) about commands so that the students
recognize what they are and when they have to use it. After that we are going to socialize
with the class all the commands in the video, and then they have to repeat and practice to
can remember each one of these commands. The activity in this class will be that the
children need to work in pairs to interact with the new topic; one child gives the order and
the other one does the action and then they have to change roles. When this activity
finished let's make a dynamic called the traffic light where students need to be careful to
listen the color that the teacher is going to say, it could be red to stand up, green to sit
down and yellow to change the place. Finally we have to correct and clarify any doubt
students can have about the days topic.

Fifth class (1 lesson hour: 45 minutes)

In our last class we are going to make a feedback about the classroom commands class
and then the students have to take a quiz (see in bibliography/appendix) to evaluate how
much they have understood in the last class. In this quiz students need a scissor and
some of glue to paste it in the correct picture that represents a specific command. It is a
dynamic and active quiz to keep the students working and learn like if the class were a
playroom, because the best way the children can understand and get knowledge in this
age is to using some techniques and activities that facilitate them the learning process.
