work. It must be handed in together with the final project report.
The Final Year Project progress file is essential for assessment of the project
work. It must be handed in together with the final project report.
Its main purpose is to allow the student, Project Supervisor and if appropriate
Co-Supervisor to monitor progress during the project (in comparison with the
project proposal) and to ensure that any problems are identified and rectified if
possible.
Apart from any informal contacts, you should arrange regular once per week
formal meetings unless agreed otherwise with your Project Supervisor. These
meetings should be documented in the progress file.
The pages of this file are marked with the weeks of the appropriate periods.
Before or at each formal meeting you should enter a short report: your
Supervisor should supply advice and comments.
Most problems that arise can be solved by you and your supervisor in
discussion. Sometimes, however, problems may need outside action. In such
cases the matter should in the first instance be raised with the relevant Head
of Programme.
The progress file will subsequently be used by the Project Supervisor to assist
in marketing, using the following categories:
o Organisation through the project,
o Quality of experimental and/or design work (software and hardware),
o Diligence,
o Initiative,
o Attainment of target objectives.
The progress file may also be scrutinised by the external examiners and by
the final year board of examiners.
After the final Board of Examiners meeting, the progress file will be returned
to you and can be used as evidence of your achievements in your project
work.
