Dear Friends,
As the legislature continues its work shaping the next state budget, I am
eager to do my part to ensure the final bill we pass will benefit all of Ohios
working families. To that end, not only do I serve you on the Finance
Committee, but I also serve as the Ranking Member on the Finance
Subcommittee on State Government Review as well as a member of the
Finance Subcommittee on Primary and Secondary Educationall this in
addition to serving as the Ranking Member on Agriculture and a member of
the Education Standing Committees. Needless to say, the budget and its
impact on you has consumed my thoughts for weeks now as I fight for you
and our great district.

Unfortunately, the truth is, while the rest of the nation has experienced the
longest period of job growth on record1, Ohios job growth, especially in our
District, has not kept pace2. Now, after six years of Republican control and
policies, Gov. Kasich says Ohio is on the verge of a recession.3 Recently,
Gov. Kasich admitted that Ohio is on the verge of a recession. Clearly his
priorities to offer tax cuts to the wealthy coupled with his outdated beliefs in
trickle down economic growth have failed to produce good paying jobs
which are the corner stone of a vibrant economy.

However, I am committed to working with all my colleagues to produce a

budget that promotes and sustains job growth by investing in a healthy,
educated workforce and infrastructure improvements that retain and attract
new business and industry. By working together, with all, by all, and for all, Follow Us Today!
we can build a more diverse economy that can provide stability in a world
that is unpredictable.

Let us then unite to put our families first and strive to get ahead rather than
simply get by. This is what you elected me to do, and this is what I am
committed to doing.

As always, I encourage you to contact me with suggestions, questions, or

comments. I remain steadfastly in your service.

Sincerely,

John Patterson
State Representative

Celebrating MLKs legacy/Ohios biennial state budget process

As Americans reflect on the impact and legacy of Reverend

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., I believe its important we re-
member one often understated piece of that historic legacy:
the reverends resolute advocacy for economic justice.

Each odd-numbered year, the state must enact a main oper-

ating budget to authorize the majority of state spending for
the following two years. This budget includes funding for
Medicaid, K-12 education, local governments, and more.

Dem lawmakers look to ace the Pink Tax in Ohio/EPA extends funding for water quality

Tampons and pads are medical necessities for womennot luxury

items. I believe the Pink Tax unfairly takes money out of the
pockets of women and undermines the economic stability of work-
ing families.

The Ohio EPA has finalized the 2017 Program Management Plan for
the Water Pollution Control Loan Fund, which will help improve the
quality of Ohios rivers, streams, lakes and other water bodies.
