Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery Department

First, Let me introduce myself. My name is Faisal Yusuf Ashari, a fresh graduate doctor majoring from
Airlangga University. Since the beginning, I have strong passion and curiosity on Cardiothoracic and Vascular
Surgery Department. As we know that this department has a very great reputation of the surgeon which is well
known not only in National but also in International.
Furthermore, many scholars mentioned that the countries in this region will be the next worlds main power as
it shows many developments in many sectors. To support this passion, I want to increase my knowledge and
surgical skill for helping me to communicate and understand how to be a good surgeon in this region.

I have very high curiosity and passion on how to be a good surgeon through many kinds of interaction,
communication and cooperation in the term of interdisciplinary studies. Furthermore, in this globalization era,
especially to increase both surgical business and surgical marketing are not dominated by the amazing skill of a
single surgeon anymore but already spread to grass-root actors (surgeon team). I want to connect and build up
the surgical business and marketing through a good education of surgical skill and communication.
For my career goals, I want to be a structural and clinicians doctor. I have a strong commitment to
realize the concepts of education; 1) emphasizing knowledge, 2) growing the maturity and 3) developing the
good manners. Of course, to be a good clinicians especially a surgeon and commit with those concept, I have to
increase my quality of knowledge and surgical skill.

When I read this program, I found that it is suitable with my study focus and passion. That is why; I am
highly motivated to continue my study in this departmen. Having a knowledge and skill in surgery from this
program will help me to broaden my perspective and knowledge, and also increase my capability to be a
qualified surgeon and expert. It was an amazing experience when I can be an assistant of surgeon with dr. Niko
like I have done when I was in Surgery Department 7 months ago.

According to my opinion, the biggest proportion among all is about surgical procedure (50%). And
Surgical Research (25%) and Surgical Business and Marketing (25%). My reason is when we understand and
do the surgical procedure well, not only the satisfaction of the patient we can get, but also we can eliminate the
conception of defensive medicine in a doctors mind. In fact, there are so many doctors that do the defensive
medicine because of not knowing the surgical procedure well.
