Sex Trafficking

Sex trafficking is as problematic as it has ever been in our society and many women are

being forced into it. They are forced, threatened, drugged, kidnapped, and raped. The average

age of girls that become victims to sex trafficking is 12 to 14 years old (Frundt, 2005). Sex

trafficking is a modern form of slavery that should be known all around the world because of

how many people are kidnapped and sold toward sex trafficking. They live under harsh

conditions and experience trauma every second of their day. Some manage to escape and some

are rescued, but a lot of girls are left to fend for themselves. Either way, all of them still suffer

the consequences of being a victim of the sex market. How Women are exploited everyday

because of sex trafficking, how it could happen to anyone or anywhere around world, and how it

affects the victims even after the experience. People today should know how people are treated

thought sex trafficking and how it can affect them a lot.

Today sex trafficking is a modern from of slavery because of how many people are being

trafficked into different countries around the world just to be used for hard labor or sexaully

expoit them. Sex trafficking is one of the major problems that we are facing around the world

and it violates basic human rights. (Put a quote) There are many places around the world where

sex trafficking is a anissve. It can happen any where around the world no matter where you live.

There are at least 3 million women and girls worldwide that are currently enslaved in sex

trafficking (Kristof, N. D. & WuDunn, S. ,2009). In the United States, the common age where

people are forced into sex trafficking is between 14 to 16 years old. One documentary that has

helped inform people about sex trafficking is Half the Sky. Half the Sky is a documentary and a

book that talks about five topics which are Sex Trafficking, Gender-based violence, maternal

mortality, Economic empowerment, and Women's Education. One of the topic in this

documentary is about sex trafficking. This helped me discovered more about sex trafficking and

how people are affected from sex trafficking.

There are many places around the world where sex trafficking can happen. There are

about 600,000 to 800,000 people who are trafficked into different countries every year. This

statistic shows the approximate number of people that are getting trafficked into different

countries which would be scary because the trafficker might take the person to a place that is

completely unknown to the victim. Women are sexually exploited every time they are trafficked.

Traffickers can force the person who is being trafficked to do anything that they say.

An article by Tina Frundt, called Enslaved in America: Sex Trafficking in the United

States (2005), The article talks about her experience with sex trafficking and how it affected

her. At the age of 14 she was manipulated and forced into child prostitution. She was

manipulated by a man who she thought was her boyfriend. But he manipulated her to runaway

with him until she saw his true color that he really is. The article also talks about how sex

trafficking affected her and how she overcame the consequences of this nightmare. Today she

has helped spread awareness about sex trafficking by bravely sharing her experience. This is

important because there are still many people around the world who are typing help to stop sex

trafficking around the world so that people would not suffer from all the torture people had

experience.

Even right after the event, people who were victims of sex trafficking are usually

traumatized from the challenges that they had face. These type of event/experiences can be really

traumatizing to a person because of the thing that they had gone through. Sex trafficking can

produce anxiety, insecurity, fear, and post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) due to the experience

of the event. This is significant because it could affect a persons everyday life and how they

interact with other people after the traumatizing experience. The victims can be insulated from

society which it harder for people to help out the people who were trafficked. This is one

important fact because it shows how sex trafficking can affect the person who has become a

victim. Victims could get some type of virus such as AIDS or STD due to exploitation. You

cant get rid AIDS or STD and it stay with you for the rest of your life. These types of viruses

can be painful to know to the victims because people might think that the person wanted to get

into the situation that they were in and they won't be understanding toward the victim. The

viruses can also serve as a reminder to the victims of how big AIDS or STD are and how it can

affect them drastically. I feel that people should support the victim who were forced into sex

trafficking.

Counter Argument

People say that it is the victim's fault they're a part of sex trafficking and people think that

sex trafficking isnt a big deal in the world and they tell the victim to just move on from the pass

even though it could be challenging for them. Sex trafficking is not an easy subject to get over

because of the thing that traffickers usually do to the victim. The memories of that event could

really affect a person for years. They are manipulated or abducted into sex trafficking. Anyone is

going to get into sex trafficking willingly therefore we should not engage into putting the blame

on the victims. Sex trafficking can really affect their lifestyle because of the things that they had

to do to survive. I dont think that its the victims fault that they are forced into sex trafficking.

Conclusion

Sex trafficking is a worldwide problem that need to solved so that people around the

world do not suffer from the things that victims have experience from sex trafficking. Sex

trafficking is a modern form of slavery where women are forced into prostitution. They are

forced into it through poor conditions and they become prisoners of the sex market. There are

many thing that I person can do to stop sex trafficking worldwide. People can go on movements

to stop the problem. That could prevent sex trafficking. The UN could re-enhance one of the

laws that they have which is called Global Action Against of Person and the smuggling of

migrants. In general there are many small thing around the world that you could do to stop sex

trafficking.

Enslaved in America: Sex trafficking in the United States is an article about an experience a

teenage girl had with sex trafficking. The article talks about how she got into sex

trafficking. The article could help me alot because it gives an experience that a girl had

on how she felt when she was forced into prostitution and how it all started in the first

place. I could use this article as one of my resources because it gave me a perspective

on how a person got into sex trafficking and how the trafficker treated the victim.

Sex Trafficking: Inside the Business of Modern Slavery is a book by Siddharth Kara. The book

is about how sex trafficking is seen in a business view. The book talks about how much

profit the trafficker gets from selling a person and how sex trafficking is slavery. This

could be reliable towards my essay because Im able to see another perspective on how

people are getting trafficked into different countries all around the world. Im going to

use this by getting some fact that in the book that could really support my essay.

Half the Sky is both a film and a book. Half the Sky focuses on five topics which are

Gender-Based Violence, Sex Trafficking, Maternal Mortality, Female Economic

because Half the Sky has a lot of information that I could use for my topic and I

could really use it for my essay and I could use Half the Sky to help me back up some

of my claims. I'm going to use Half the Sky in my essay to help me with facts that I

included in my thesis and also use it to back up some of my claims for my argument.

Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking in the United States talks about how some children get

into sex trafficking in a young age and it also talks about how people could be a risk

to becoming a victim to sex trafficking. Domestic Minor Sex Trafficking in the

United States can be useful for my argument because it talks about how people get

into sex trafficking in the United States. I'm going to use this information by adding it

into my body #1 which talk about how women are getting exploited everyday because

of sex trafficking.

World health organization (2012). Deaths due to HIV/AIDS. South Africa.

In the UN data, I found that in South Africa 449 people have died due to HIV/AIDS in

2012. This type of information could be usefull for me because it provides data of

people who have died from HIV/AIDS. Im going to use this fact as one of my fact

to help me support one of my claims for my essay.
