Salient Points related FEED work.

JOB NO. 6239-NCUE

Client : HALDIA PETROCHEMICALS LTD.
Project: Naphtha Cracker Unit Expansion.
Date : January 13,2007

The constructability study was carried out from 1st to 15 the November based on
BEP plot plan and it was envisaged to check Hydraulics with regards to Relocated
Equipments (Proposed By PMC/HPL)
The Hydraulic study was carried out for the following systems.
o CGC loops due to relocation of 2C-331
o Propylene condensers Loop due to addition of 2E-500C with odd orientation
o New Cold box loops due to relocation of Parallel cold towards east side of
the Plant.
o EBR loops due to relocation
o HP/MP Methane loops
o Hydrogen Gas loops
o Reboiler Hydraulics due to Relocation and additional Reboilers to the existing

The above listed Hydraulic study was performed with Indicative sketches /Isometrics
based on Short sketches available for Cold Box and EBR etc. This process has taken
substantial time than expected due to Assumption/ Continuous interaction with
HPL /PMC for clarification /retrieval of data.
The hydraulic Calculations were submitted to HPL/PMC /ABB progressively starting
4th week of November 2006 till 3rd week of December 2006. Received comments
from ABB with regards Pressure drops estimated for the various loop for two phase
flow, Method of Estimating Pressure drops and also on Design Margins to be
considered for the estimation. .Since DEC did not have any Specific Guide lines from
ABB, We have considered only the data available in PFD/ Material Balance and
performed Calculations based on Engineering Practices followed by DEC ( as per
TEC practice )
During the Meeting with HPL on 08-09 at DEC Mumbai office, A guide line sheet
was provided by HPL (Based on HPLs teletalk with ABB on 04-01-07).The
hydraulic Calculations had to be revised /redone with above guide lines.
During the course of Discussions in Jan 08-09, we found that the flow data to be
considered based on earlier design conferences held between HPL/TEC prior to the
release of BEP/EBEP.This data was neither made available to DEC nor given in
Both BEP/EBEP packages. (Refer ABBs Clarification mail).DEC has requested HPL
to furnish such data which they feel Required for reviewing the EBEP data for FEED.
DEC has also requested for Clarification on Quench Fitting Pressure data
(Discrepancy in Maximum /Minimum/Operating Pressures at Quench fittings).Refer
discussion held at DEC Mumbai office on 08-09 January 07.This clarification is
required for finalizing the Pump 2P-203DR Discharge Head. Since it is a critical
Pump based on duty parameters, it is essential to freeze the data at the earliest.
G.A drawings of Cold box is required to assess the Exact Elevations of the Nozzles
and revise the hydraulics based on Guide lines provided by HPL on -08-09 /January
07.
The Existing Filed Instruments and control valves are to be checked for flow
adequacy and at the same time to review for minimum pressure drop across the Flow
instruments and control valves to accommodate in the Pressure limits. This may cause
in increase in line sizes or change of Existing instruments. Detailed study is under
progress on case to case basis.

Keeping in view of the above, DEC would like to inform that the Hydraulic study will be
continued for another 7-10 days to complete the critical loops prior to the Finalization of
PLOT plan, Equipment List and P&I diagrams.
