SYMPTOMS

On : 12.2.1.1.0 version, Analytics

OBIEE12c Clustered environment installation

After scaling out by running clone_bi_machine.sh on node 1 and unpack.sh on node2, bi_server2 fails to start and runs in ADMIN Mode

The bi_server2.log has the following error for all java application and library deployments:

Caused By: javax.management.InvalidAttributeValueException: Unable to create path to /export/[BIHOST1]/Oracle

/Middleware/Oracle_Home/bi/bifoundation/jee/xxxxxx.ear

CHANGES

New installation

CAUSE

The binaries and configuration are installed on shared storage; however, the directory mappings are configured to be unique (with the individual
hostname in the path mount point) and not identical as required by the documentation.

SOLUTION

The supported solution is to install with identical mount points on the BIHOST1, BIHOST2, BIHOSTx whether you are installing on local storage or
mounted shared storage. The directories on the shared storage (NAS, SAN, NFS) can be different.

Reference:

The System Administrator's Guide for Oracle Business Intelligence Enterprise Edition Chapter 3-4 documents how to run the clone and unpack commands;
however, it does not document all the details of the directory requirements.

The directory requirement details are documented in the Enterprise Deployment Guide for Oracle Business Intelligence

7.5 About Creating and Mounting the Directories for an Enterprise Deployment
"Be sure the directory path to the binaries on BIHOST2 is identical to the directory path on BIHOST1."

For example:

/u01/oracle/products/fmw/

7.6 Summary of the Shared Storage Volumes in an Enterprise Deployment

8.5 Mounting the Required Shared File Systems on Each Host

"You must create and mount shared storage locations so that BIHOST1 and BIHOST2 can see the same location if it is a binary installation in two
separate volumes."
