PRACTICING PROPER/PERSONAL HYGIENE

1. Bath daily: this is the best way to get rid of any dirt, sweat, and/or germs that your body may
have accumulated throughout the day, and prevents hygiene-related disease.
Wet your hair first then put shampoo on it. Lather it in a circular motion then your
scalp gently.
Use a sponge, or hand towel to gently scrub your entire body, removing dead skin
cells and dirt.
2. Proper ear cleaning: the human body produces ear wax as a protective measure (keeping out
bacteria, bugs, and dirt). We only get rid of it if there is too much ear wax. An excess of ear
wax can increase the presence of bacteria in your ears, making it more likely that you will
suffer ear infections. It can also affect your hearing negatively.
Using a cotton swab: insert it into your ear, scrape around for the ear wax, and make
sure that the wax adheres to the cotton swab, remove and discard.
3. Toothbrushing: a proper toothbrushing technique is essential for keeping our teeth and gums
healthy. Teeth can be brushed twice-thrice daily.
Using a small, soft bristled brush is ideal for children.
Use a small amount of fluoride toothpaste, the size of the childs little finger nail.
Place the brush at an angle on the outer gumline with the bristles facing towards the
gum. Wiggle gently back and forth, repeat for each tooth.
Then brush the inside of each tooth using the same wiggling technique as in step 1.
Brush the chewing surfaces of the teeth using a backward and forward motion.
Use the tip of the brush behind each front tooth both top and bottom.
Gently brush the tongue and gum line.
