1. Are admissions to VAVA rolling? Or are they at a set time in the year?
Some K-12 school employ a year-round enrollment. Texas Virtual Schools have a strict
cut-off, while California Virtual Schools have a rolling admissions process. Virginia does
not have year-round enrollment. There are specific closing dates for each school year.

2. What teaching platform do you use? How do students interact with their
teachers and other peers?
All is online using email, live class connection/FaceTime, phone, Blackboard

3. How do you decide what technology or teaching platform to use? Who


decides that?
Decisions are made for technology use on the state level. An agreement upon the state
and IT team provides each states virtual schools what works best for them.

4. How often is technology use updated?


Often and as needed by the IT team for the states virtual academy program

5. What is the student body demographics?

Are Special Education/IEP programs available to students that need them?
o Yes. If a student needs an IEP or individualized program, an evaluation
can be done for the student through the Virtual Academy
What types of students typically enroll in VAVA instruction?
o Students in which the typical classroom does not work for them. Students
who struggle academically find the personalized help they need through
online schooling. Bullying and other health issues allow students who are
incapable of brick and mortar instruction to still receive their education.
Also, students classified as highly-abled and achievers, where the public
schools do not offer what they need find extensions on instruction through
virtual schools without being held back.

6. What is the organizational structure of the VAVA?


According to the Virginia Virtual Academy website, those in leadership are the Head of
School, Academic Admin, Operations Manager, and Teachers.

7. What fees are included with VAVA online schools? Where does funding
come from for VAVA?
Tuition is free and private options that are tuition based should parents elect for private
options of instruction through the K-12 program
