Statement of Intent/Future Plans

Ever since I was a small child, I have adored my experiences with figure skating and

music. I have practiced both talents for many years and have allowed myself to achieve

proficiency. During my figure skating years, I was amazed to see how my friends would recover

back from injuries; they would explain how they attended physical therapy to aid in their

recovery. Ever since, I have become intrigued to provide people in similar situations the same

type of aid. During my years of music, I have become fascinated with my many opportunities for

using my piano skills in my future. Upon graduation from high school, I intend to attend Liberty

University while pursuing an Exercise Science major and a Music minor. After completion of

my B.S. in Exercise Science, I will attend graduate school at another university in order to

complete my masters and doctoral programs.

During my high school experience, I have taken advantage of many educational

opportunities in order to prepare for college and my career. In my four years of high school, I

have successfully maintained perfect grades for every class I have taken. I have pushed myself to

complete every assignment and study for every exam in order to achieve desired results. This

strategy has enabled me to strengthen my work ethic in order to prepare myself to stay on task

during my college experience. Since sophomore year, I have made myself a part of important

clubs that would help me prepare for my career such as National Honors Society, Drama Club,

and Soroptimist. National Honors Society helped me to grow in the areas of scholarship, service,

charity, character, and leadership. Drama Club helped me to grow my confidence and leadership

skills, expand my piano accompaniment talent, and helped me further realize my passion for

pursuing a music minor. Lastly, Soroptimist has allowed me to serve the community through

several service projects and enlighten me to problems surrounding teenage girls and adult

women. Also since sophomore year, I have made myself apart of Buckinghams Student

Leadership. This experience has allowed me to grow my leadership and teamwork skills over the

span of three years. These skills will become vital to my college experience when I need to form

study groups and participate in group projects. After junior year concluded, since my

Buckingham schedule only permits me to have six classes per semester, I decided to take my

final years of English and math at Solano Community College. These classes allowed me to

understand the type of work I will be required to do after high school in a four-year university.

Because of my initiative to complete classes outside of Buckingham, I have successfully earned

eight transferable college credits, which allows me to complete two of my general education

requirements for my choice college.

In order to have a successful career, I have many talents and qualities that I will be able

to contribute to my future. Since I plan to pursue an Exercise Science major in order to become a

physical therapist, I believe my background in figure skating will allow me to relate to some of

my future patients. I have witnessed my fellow teammates get injured and recover through

physical therapy, and I can use these experiences to tell my clients how they may recover.

Although I have not been severely injured myself, I will use my knowledge of my friends

recoveries in order to relate to some of my athletic clients. Secondly, since I am planning to

pursue a music minor, my experiences with musical theater and choir will help me in my future

music side-job. I have learned how to accompany singers and actors and follow their

performance--even if they fall off-tempo or skip a part of a song. Finally, I can use my growing

teamwork skills in my future workplaces. For my career, I will need to take my teamwork roles

to work collaboratively with my future coworkers and clients.

During my entire high school experience, I have shown a great amount of perseverance in

order to keep a perfect academic record on my high school transcript. During my freshman and

sophomore years, I have relatively simple classes, which did not force me to need as much

perseverance or effort to keep my grades perfect. Although one class during my junior year,

physics, gave my mindset a reality check. I had a harder time understanding the material and

needed to put more effort into learning the concepts studying for exams. When I received a C on

my first test, I was greatly discouraged. During most of both semesters, I would see a B+

starting at me on Schoolloop. I was close to an A, but I remained held back by some quizzes and

labs. Fortunately, during the rest of junior year, I was able to receive help from an amazing tutor

who gave me the confidence to get my grade back on track and earn me an A on my transcript

for both semesters. Also, I was able to persevere on my own in order to complete all assignments

and take notes outside of class. This entire experience has helped me realize that even though I

may have a rocky start in a class, I can use my perseverance and resources to push through

towards success. I will definitely continue to use my growing skill of perseverance in college

classes and my future career.

All of the educational opportunities and learning experiences I have experienced over my

lifespan have prepared me for my journey ahead. I have grown in areas of leadership, teamwork,

and perseverance, which are vital to be able to survive in todays working environment. I know I

will be able to use my talents, qualities, and past experiences in my future career as a physical

therapist, as well as in my future music-related work. While some students many feel afraid and

unprepared for the world beyond high school, I believe I am ready to chase my dreams and

contribute what I can to todays world.
