ABSTRACT

Inventory management is all about the way the inventory is held in an

organization in order to reduce the overall cost of production by minimizing the cost of procuring
and holding the inventory. Inventory includes all the materials which are raw, in-progress and
finished goods which exist in an organization.

In earlier days, inventory management was not given that much of importance due
to lack of awareness of the fact that handling inventory in a better way will reduce the cost of the
final product. These days, every organization has recognized the importance of inventory
management in such a way that every organization has established a separate department of
handling all inventory related activities.

Inventory is such a vital asset that the over-investment of which could lead to the
blockage of funds unnecessarily and the shortage of which will lead to the stoppage or break
during the process of production. Both the situations would adversely affect the overall
productivity of the organization. Hence it is required to organize it in a better way.

Inventory can be managed by using different inventory control methods and

techniques such a stock levels, ABC analysis, EOQ analysis and so on and even the way of
pricing the materials whenever these are issued from the stores. Based on its applicability and
need, efficient and appropriate usage of proper techniques is to be made by the organizations.

Thus inventory management plays a very key role in every organization as it

involves 3 important factors for every organization cost, return and risk factors. Finally
inventory is to be acquired and maintained as per the requirement to avoid the unnecessary
blockage of the huge funds which can be further used by the organization for its progress or
expansion.
