TITLE 1: SOLAR-POWERED ELECTRIC BICYCLE

AUTHOR: AMIRUL SHAFIQ BIN HSAN BASERI

YEAR: 2009

DESCRIPTION:

method of upgrades a conventional electric powered bicycle over to Solar-Powered

Electrical Bicycle that is powered by an electric motor which gets its supply from
photovoltaic (PV) panels. The PV panels must be mounted and installed at the
electric bicycle without compromising riding comfort ability. The method employs
a small electric motor that are easily connected and separated for ease of transport.
A solar collector is connected to the rechargeable batteries for collecting solar
energy and converting such energy to electrical power that is delivered to the
rechargeable batteries for recharging thereof. A rechargeable battery is operable
connected to DC motor for providing electrical power to drive the motor.

TITLE 2: Solar Powered Bike Sharing System with Electric Bikes

AUTHOR: FABIAN FOGELBERG

YEAR: 2014

DESCRIPTION:

Combining Electric Bikes (E-bikes) with bicycle sharing systems could have a
number of benefits. E-bikes reduce the human force needed for propulsion which
facilitates longer and hillier rides relative regular bikes. The system could thus
have more widespread network of stations, not only reaching more people but also
enable commuting longer distances. It could also reduce the need for redistribution
as users of regular bike sharing systems tend to only ride downhill. The focus of
this report has been to perform energy calculations and system design on solar
powered E-bike pools. The geographical focus has been on Gothenburg, Sweden
but the results can be applied to locations with similar latitude. The calculation
methodology may however be applied to any other city around the world. It was
shown that placing 0.2-0.8 m2 solar panels per E-bike on the station's roof could
supply enough energy to make the E-bike self-sufficient on a yearly basis despite
high degree of system use. By increasing the solar panel area it was shown that
there can be a net electric energy production on a yearly basis. At the maximum
assumed solar panel area (about 3-3.8 m2 /E-bike) there could be 600-800 kWh of
solar energy fed to the grid per E-bike and year depending on the usage level.
Using a system that is on-grid and coupled with a stationary battery is seen as the
best system design. That would enable origin marking of electricity and decrease
the problem of intermittency with solar power. Reducing the interchange with the
grid would also increase the system efficiency as the current do not need to be
converted to or from AC as often.

TITLE 3: Design and Development of Solar Assisted Bicycle

AUTHOR: Ajit B. Bachche, N. S. Hanamapure

YEAR: 2012

DESCRIPTION:

As we all know the fuel prices especially the petrol is rising steadily day by day.
Again the pollution due to vehicles in metro cities & urban areas is increasing
continuously. To overcome these problems, an effort is being made to search some
other alternative sources of energy for the vehicles. Again, it is also not affordable
to purchase vehicles (mopeds, scooters or motorcycles) for all the class of society.
Keeping this in mind, a search for some way to cater these economically poor
people as well as to provide a solution for the environmental pollution was in
progress. The solar assisted bicycle developed is driven by DC motor fitted in front
or rear axle housing & operated by solar energy. The solar panels mounted on the
carriage will charge the battery & which in turn drive the hub motor. When the
bicycle is idle, the solar panel will charge the battery. This arrangement will
replace the petrol engine, the gear box & the fuel tank in case of a two wheeler or a
chain sprocket, chain & gear shifting arrangement of a conventional bicycle being
used by most common man. [9] As a part of dissertation work, the solar assisted
bicycle is fitted with a dc hub motor on front axle of a bicycle with power rating of
250W and with a travelling speed of around 25-30 kmph. It is provided with a pair
of lead acid batteries of 35 Ah each, a photovoltaic solar panel with capacity of 20
watt, a voltage regulator of 24v 10 Amp, accelerator and motor controller of 24v
25Amp. There is also a provision for charging of the battery with 220-240V, AC
wall outlet supply, in case of poor solar supply due to cloudy weather.

TITLE 4: An innovative solar powered electric bicycle

AUTHOR: C. Siva pragash ,C. Shankar , M. Nageena

YEAR: 2015

DESCRIPTION:

The project is based on the microcontroller with automation technology, it

consisting of components such as ATMEGA328 and PIC30F2010 as a controller,
three phase inverter, solar panel, hall effect sensor, variable resistor etc., In the
existing system, a traditional bicycle is a two-wheel vehicle that is propelled by the
rider who delivers 50% muscle power through pedals that rotate one of the two
wheels and 50% motor powered to rotate the wheel for riding the bicycle, the
motor used in the existing system is brushed dc motor, it has less efficiency.
Electric bicycle have simultaneously gained popularity in many regions of the
world and some have suggested that it could provide an even higher level of
service compared to existing systems. In proposed system an electric bicycle
carries batteries that deliver electric power to a motor that is coupled to either
wheel, the motor used here is brushless dc motor, it has high efficiency. The project
consist of additional features such as LCD display, umbrella, mobile charger,
Bluetooth connectivity, and speaker

where solar power is not available.

TITLE 6: SOLAR POWERED ELECTRIC BICYCLE WITH KINETIC ENERGY

RESTORATION SYSTEM

AUTHOR: AMIN SAYYAD, PREETAM AJAGEKAR

YEAR: 2016
DESCRIPTION:

Nowadays personal and efficient modes of transportation used in India include bi-
cycles, mopeds and motorcycles. These mopeds and motorcycles tend to be more
costly in terms of 1.initial buying cost, 2.everrising prices of fuels especially petrol
required for driving these vehicles, 3.high maintenance cost. Also the fossil fuel
deposits are getting depleted day by day and its hard to find the new ones to
replace them. Again the pollution due to these fuels is jeopardizing the
environment continuously. On the other hand, the low buying cost and zero
running cost traditional bi-cycle sometimes tends to be inconceivable as lots of
muscle power is wasted by rider propelling the pedals to rotate the driving rear
wheel. Keeping all this in mind, engineers are left to think of a new way to cater
these economically poor people as well as to provide a solution for environmental
pollution. Thus Solar Energy turns out to be freely and abundant available energy
source which could be harnessed easily and converted to electrical energy using a
low cost mechanism and used for the purpose of instilling mobility. Hence, a Solar
Powered Electric Bicycle is proposed over here. Our solar powered electric bicycle
developed is driven by PMDC motor. The solar panels mounted, in a detachable
mode, will charge the battery, which in turn drive the motor. When riding bicycle,
kinetic energy is lost while applying brakes, and also, human effort during pedaling
uphill. We also need to maintain our cycles efficiency level after battery
discharges on cloudy days. Here we are planning to use mechanical kinetic energy
recovery system (KERS) by means of a flywheel to store the energy. This is one of
its kind proto-type.

TITLE 7: Energy Efficient Hybrid Electric Bike with Multi -Transmission System
AUTHOR: Arun Eldho Alias, Geo Mathew2, Manu

YEAR: 2015

DESCRIPTION:

In automobile sector, the need for alternative fuel as a replacement of conventional

fossil fuel, due to its depletion and amount of emission has given way for new
technologies like Electric vehicles. Still a lot of advancement has to take place in
these technologies for commercialization. The gap between the current fossil fuel
technology and zero emission vehicles can be bridged by hybrid technology.
Hybrid vehicles are those which can run on two or more powering sources fuels.
This technology maximizes the advantages of the two fuels and minimizes the
disadvantages of the same. The best preferred hybrid pair is electric and fossil fuel.
In this paper the Hybrid bike system, the power is delivered both via an internal
combustion engine and electric motor. The electrical power is used to achieve
either better fuel economy than a conventional vehicle, better performance and it
cause less pollution. Driving mode selectivity improves this system more
economical, stable and more efficient.

TITLE 8: Campus Mobility for the Future: The Electric Bicycle

AUTHOR: Ian Vince McLoughlin, I. Komang Narendra

YEAR: 2011

DESCRIPTION:

Sustainable and practical personal mobility solutions for campus environments

have traditionally revolved around the use of bicycles, or provision of pedestrian
facilities. However many campus environments also experience traffic congestion,
parking difficulties and pollution from fossil-fuelled vehicles. It appears that pedal
power alone has not been sufficient to supplant the use of petrol and diesel vehicles
to date, and therefore it is opportune to investigate both the reasons behind the
continual use of environmentally unfriendly transport, and consider potential
solutions. This paper presents the results from a year-long study into electric
bicycle effectiveness for a large tropical campus, identifying barriers to bicycle use
that can be overcome through the availability of public use electric bicycles.
