Content Area Objective(s) Blooms Taxonomy:


1. Student will be able to read nonsense words to practice
their phonics and decoding.
2. Students will be able to define and give meaning to
nonsense words.

Language Objective(s):
1. Students will focus on phonics and will be able to read large
nonsense words by sounding it out or breaking it into parts.
2. Students will be able to define and give meaning to
nonsense words using context clues and parts of speech.

Vocabulary:
Parts of speech- adjective, noun, verb, adverb
Context clue

Anticipatory Set:
Student should already be aware of the different parts of
speech and the idea of using context clues
Student will have an understanding of phonetic patterns
and reasoning
Student is able to read and familiar with splitting up a
word to sound it out

Teacher Actions:
1. Teacher gives student worksheet
2. Teacher works with student during worksheet
3.Techer elicits discussion, asking questions that encourage
further thinking

1. Student works on worksheet
2. Student asks questions and answer questions posed by
teacher and is encouraged to think out loud.
3. Student engages in short discussion

1. Student may need pictures to accompany text
2. Student may need longer wait time to process thoughts

Teacher and student discussion and reflection
Collecting the worksheet and asking questions before,
during and after the activity will allow me to see where
the student is at before vs. after.
