2017 North Division Day and Campfire Activities and Competition

For Brownies and Guides

1. Inter-Unit Dance Competition

Objectives:
to understand the importance of the different multicultural backgrounds that unite Guides and
Brownies locally/ internationally;
to create opportunities for Guides and Brownies to work in groups as they learn about music,
tempo, rhythm, beat, poise, balance and coordination.

Guidelines:
There should be only 1 team per Unit.
Each team comprises of 6 to 15 girls.
The dance should incorporate and reflect a fusion of dances from any country in the Guiding
world. There should be at least fusion of 2 dances: local and international dance steps.
Marks will be awarded for Costumes, Originality and fusion to multi-cultural aspect,
Choreography, Team co-ordination, Entertainment and Value/ Emotional attachment.
The Units are to save their finalised dance music in a thumbdrive or external hard disk.
The Unit will ballot for their performance sequence on the actual day.
Winning team will perform at the North Division Campfire that same day.

Judging Criteria
Costumes, originality and fusion to mult-culutural aspect
Choreography
Team-coordination
Entertainment value/emotional attachment

2. Telematch

Objectives:
Provide the opportunity for brownies and guides to work together to complete the challenges
posed and to have fun as well.

Guidelines:
Each Unit can only send 1 team of 4 girls. The first 8 Brownie teams and first 8 Guide teams to
apply will be able to participate.
The final grouping consisting of a Guide and Brownie group will be decided by a lucky draw.

3. Skill Set Sharing Workshops

Objectives:
To provide a platform for the Guides and Brownies to share their skills with one another.
To allow the Guides and Brownies to forge a closer bond with each other
To acknowledge, recognise and celebrate the good work of the Guides and Brownies units in the
North Division.

Guidelines:
All Guides and Brownies units in the North Division are encouraged to submit their entries.
Each Unit can submit only 1 entry. The team can comprise of 2 to 3 members.
A write-up of about 150 words to describe the skill set that they will like to showcase
Each skill set sharing workshop must be able to last between 25 to 30 minutes.
5 best learning stations will be selected and the selected units will be notified by email.
For Brownies only

1. Book Day Character Parade Competition

Objectives:
To promote the excitement and love of reading.
To provide the opportunity for the brownies to work collaboratively and creatively.
To provide a platform for the brownies to boost and challenge their confidence.

Guidelines:
Each team consists of 3 Brownies : 1 Model + 1 Presenter + 2 Costume maker
Character Costume must represent a literary figure. For example, The Gingerbread Man or Snow
White, not comic book characters!
The Book featuring the character is to be brought to school and carried during the parade.
Recycled materials are to be used. Only the recycle material mentioned is allowed to be used.
Schools are allowed to bring:
Newspapers
Magazines
Trash bags
Toilet roll cardboard
Plastic bottles
Come prepared to share your characters name and why you choose this character for your
parade.

For Guides only

1. Dessert Making Competition

Objectives:
To provide the opportunity to Guides to showcase their cooking and presentation skills based on
their ability and creativity.
To have fun

Guidelines:
This is open to the first 20 teams on a first-come first-served basis. Each team consists of 4 Guides.
Each Unit can submit only 1 entry.
A write-up (around 100 words) is required to describe the dessert based on the theme Grow.
A recipe and breakdown of budget must be provided.
A maximum budget of $10 is provided by the participating team.
Preparation of the dessert should be simple and creative and must start from scratch.
Participants must bring their own cooking utensils, ingredients and cleaning agent. Power supply,
oven and fridge is provided in the kitchen if necessary.
Total time provided to prepare the dessert is 1 hour.
