WEBSITE AND CLASSROOM BLOG CREATION TOOLS

Name: Brenda Staton

Directions:
For this lesson, students will be given an assignment to upload a podcast to our class blog. The blog has
been created to inform students and parents of all the class information and upcoming events. This specific
lesson is designed as an extension to a field trip to a science museum. They will be creating their own
podcast of a particular science exhibit, or what they learned on this field trip, to share with the entire class.
The standards that will be used are S3E2 on fossils and past organisms or S3L1 on differences between
plants, animals, and habitats found within geographic regions. This format is essential in helping students
achieve a higher level of LoTi learning with technology. They will not only learn about how to research the
appropriate information, but will also incorporate their use of technology to create and develop their own
podcast to share with their others. This promotes a LoTi level of 4 or 5 in learning development.

Brief Description of Learning Experience:
A podcast will be created by each student to add to our class blog. The students will utilize information and
resources learned from the Science Museum to create an audio or video podcast to share with their
classmates. The podcasts will be uploaded into a specific section in our blog for them to share with
everyone.
This project should take about a week to complete and upload to the blog. Parents, peers, and others will
have access to see/hear this podcast and can comment accordingly. Only parents and classmates, who have
approved access to our blog, will be able to view these for internet security reasons.

Remembering Understanding Applying Analyzing Evaluating Creating

Student Engagement/Level of Technology Implementation (LoTi): Students will be creating their own
podcast to be shared with other classmates, the teacher, and parents. For this reason, a LoTi level 5 or 6 is
being used, as it is extremely technology rich.

Importance of technology:
By using an audio or video podcast for this project, students have the opportunity to incorporate the
technology tools to their lesson. Rather than just produce an essay about the experience to the museum and
one of the exhibits, they can share with their peers in an audible way. Students are given the opportunity to
expand on their technology skills in this manner. By engaging others in this lesson, they are utilizing a
higher level of learning and thinking in LoTi levels.

Internet Safety and Student Privacy:

When creating their personal podcasts, there are always potential risks for students to include music that
may not be appropriate, including video as well. For this reason, and to protect the other students, the
podcast will be uploaded and viewed by the teacher before allowing the entire class and parents to view.
This will alleviate any fears that students may violate any rules or standards for our class. Also, students
may or may not adhere to the acceptable use policy with copyright on any music they include in their
podcast.
Describe your personal learning goal for this activity.
I enjoyed creating a blog and can see myself using this in my future classroom. I would certainly use it to
communicate with parents and students to keep them up to date and informed of events and other important
information. I believe the podcast is an incredible tool to help students broaden their understanding of
incorporating a lesson and expanding on what theyve learned to share with others. This is important in the
new age of technology.
