INTRODUCTION
Thank you for purchasing our products.

This product ("Product") has a capability of TSshield service ("TSshield service(s)"). (TSshield service offers both
charged and uncharged services by using cellular phone connection. Please refer below for detail.)
All of our customers who bought our product must register before using. These users have to understand some
information that is related this product is collected automatically. This information is used for only supplying lager
support service from Topcon.

[User registration]
Before using this product, the customer has to register to our service.
All of the personal information that is registered at registration timing may be supplied to our subsidiaries and our
business partners for only supplying TSshield service from these companies. At the anytime, these information
MUST NOT be used for other purpose and these information also MUST NOT be supplied to another 3rd party.

[What is TSshield?]
TSshield services can offer various services both charged and uncharged based on collecting information from
your Product. TSshield is a name of this service, and you can use the following services, but please note that we
may expand or change our services at any time without any notice in advance to you.
You can access to your dealer or read a product manual for the detailed information.
- Viewing instrument information
- Online upgrading*
- Security lock/unlock by remote
- Message receiving
- Download Service of Software for the Products
(including without limitation to, program files and language files)*
* Any and all software provided under TSshield Service will be licensed only to you,
and you must not sell, rent, lease, sublicense or otherwise dispose whole or part of the software.

1. Collecting information
(1) Kinds of information
We collect information from you that is required to make user registration. We also collect information to
provide you with the TSshield services through our server that automatically gathers information via cellular
phone network from the product you use. The information we collect and maintain may include personal
information about you, as well as following information which is planned to collect as of January 1, 2012:
- Power up date/time
- Power up location
- Shut down date/time
- Status/Error information
Please note that, in the event of any change or expansion in the TSshield services, we may collect and
maintain more information without any notice to you.
If you have any questions regarding collection of information, please contact the dealer from whom you
bought this Product or refer product manual.
(2) Treatment of information
We keep all of information from you in strict confidence, and limit access to the information to our direc-
tors, officers and employees who need to know to provide you with the TSshield services. We maintain
appropriate physical, electronic and procedural safeguards and controls to protect your information. We
use ONLY for providing the TSshield service. We may share the information only with our affiliated com-
panies to provide the TSshield services.
We do not disclose your information to any third party for any reason, except:
- Where such disclosure is required or appropriate pursuant to laws or regulations, including cooperating
with governmental agencies, other regulatory bodies and law enforcement officials, resolving disputes
or performing risk-management functions; or
- Where such disclosure is required or appropriate to perform you with the TSshield services.
(3) Stopping collecting information
If you want to stop to be provided with the TSshield services, we will suspend collecting information and
will retain and use your information only for compliance with regulatory requirements. If you resume being
provided with the TSshield services, we will resume collecting information. ("resume process" may needs
some additional works.) If you want to suspend and resume subscribing the TSshield services, please
contact dealer from whom you bought this Product.
Note: While suspending, you can't use all of TSshield function at all.

(4) Notice of reselling this product
If you want to resell this Product to any other person/entity ("new user"), the registration will not be
assigned to the new user. The new user will be required to make the user registration in its own name. If
you have a plan for reselling, please contact dealer from whom you bought this Product.
When you resell your instrument to the new user, you MUST NOT disclose your ID and password. Please
note that if you disclose this information, the new user can access your personal information. We are not
responsible for such disclosure by you. Please be careful in resale of this Product.

2. Other cautions (Export restriction)


This product includes some technologies that are restricted by EAR (U.S.'s Export Administration Regulations). If
you export your instrument to other country, you need to perform any procedure for export required by EAR. In this
case, you must perform any procedure by yourself. As of January 1, 2012, following countries need additional pro-
cedure. These countries may be changed without notice, please refer EAR.
- Democratic People's Republic of Korea
- Iran
- Syria
- Sudan
- Cuba

In addition, there are some countries that prohibit bringing out of positioning data from these countries. As of Janu-
ary 1, 2012, following countries need additional procedure.

If you need to bring your Product in these countries, you have to suspend or stop to be provided with the TSshield
service. There may be more strict restriction in some countries. You have to research by yourself.
If you want to suspend and stop to be provided with the TSshield services, please contact dealer from whom you
bought this Product.

HOW TO READ THIS MANUAL
About this instruction manual
This instruction manual covers only the operating method of TSshield and setting menus of the instrument nec-
essary when using TSshield.
For safety precautions and instructions for use of the instrument and how to operate other modes, refer to the
instruction manual of the your instrument.

To use the service of TSshield, a web browser plug-in "Microsoft Silverlight" is necessary.
Confirm that the PC, OS and web browser in use are compatible with the system requirements for Silverlight.

Symbols
The signs/marks as shown below are used in the instruction manual.

[CNFG] : Indicates softkeys of the instrument and buttons on a PC.

Backing up data
Data should be backed up (transfered to an external device etc.) on a regular basis to prevent data loss.

1. TSshield OVERVIEW
TSshield is a cloud-based information management service. It collects various information from your
instrument and provides you with a range of support to ensure you can use the instrument safely.

This allows us to send update information to you when the software embedded in your instrument is not
up-to-date, and also allows you to see various information about your instrument purchased via your
dedicated web site.

1.1 Mode Settings
Following are mode settings and key operations for shifting between modes of TSshield for this instru-

2. USER REGISTRATION AND LOGIN
It is necessary for you to register your TSshield to use the instrument you have purchased.

2.1 New Registration


If you are using TSshield for the first time, register your information and the instrument information.

If you are already a registered user, you can put in the information of additional instruments.

1. Go to the web site


Connect to the following URL from your computer.

https://tsshield.tierraservice.com/

2. Start registration
Press [New Registration].

Language displayed during registration can be selected in "Language".
Read the disclaimer on the Login screen before using this web site.

Confirm the contents on the screen and press [Next].

3. Enter registration information
Enter your information and that of the instrument you have purchased.
The model, serial number (S/N) and ID code are displayed when the instrument is turned on.

Password should be at least 8 characters and can be up to 32 characters in length.
Password should include both characters (alphabetic letters and symbols) and numbers.
The same string of a whole e-mail address or former part of the address cannot be used for pass-
word.

4. Send registration information
When you have finished entering the information, press [NEXT].
A registration completion mail is sent to the email address you have registered.

The registration completion mail contains your customer code and the password for login. Securely
store it.
As an e-mail containing the verification code is sent from tsshield@tierraservice.com, if you have set
the restriction on receiving e-mails, change the restriction setting.

5. Obtain the unlock code


Enter on the web page your customer code provided in the registration completion mail, and press
[NEXT].

The unlock code is displayed on the screen, and an e-mail including the unlock code is sent to you.

6. Certify the license
Deactivate the demo mode.
Certifying the license can be done either by communicating the unlock code to the server through the
instrument or by entering the unlock code in the instrument.

If you are in a place with poor signal quality, enter the unlock code in the instrument to certify your
license.

2.2 Login

1. Access the web site


Access to the following URL via a PC.

https://tsshield.tierraservice.com/

2. Login
Enter the registered e-mail address and password, select the brand of the instrument for which you
wish to display information, and then press [Login].

To log in for the first time, user registration for TSshield is required. It is necessary to press [New
Registration] on the Login screen to register your information and product information.

Language displayed in the login screen can be selected in "Language".

2.2.1 If you forget your password

If you forget your password for login, you can change it with the following procedures.

1. Display <Password Recovery>


Press [Forgot your password?] on the Login screen.

2. Input registration information
Check either E-Mail or User code (Customer Code). Then enter the registration information of
checked item.

Pressing [OK] issues a verification code to the registered e-mail address. At the same time, the
<Password Reset> screen is displayed.

Your customer code is included in the registration confirmation mail sent to you after user registration.
As an e-mail containing the verification code is sent from tsshield@tierraservice.com, if you have set
the restriction on receiving e-mails, change the restriction setting.
If you already have a verification code, click the link "If you have verification code, please click this
link." to go to step 3.

3. Set the password


Enter the verification code contained in the e-mail, and enter a new password. Then enter the new
password once again, and press [OK].

Enter the new password to log in on the Login screen.

If you have got some verification codes, use the latest code.

2.3 Display and Change User Registration Information
Registered user information can be confirmed and changed through the following procedure.

1. Display MY WEB USER PROFILE


Select MY WEB USER PROFILE from Administration.
Then, your registered information is displayed.

2. Change the contents of registration


Make necessary changes to the information and press [Apply].
The information will be updated next time you log in.

Language displayed on TSshield can be changed in "Language".

3. DASHBOARD
When you log in TSshield, the Dashboard screen is displayed.
On the Dashboard screen, it is possible to display the location of and information on the instrument by
switching between the Map and List tabs.

To display information on a specific date, select the date on the calendar, and press [Refresh] to update
the information. The currently selected date is displayed in [Current date].

Pressing [Dashboard] on any screen always returns to the Dashboard screen.

3.1 Display Map
View controller:
Click any of the direction buttons to move in the relevant direction on the map. You can zoom in/out the
location on the map using a slider.

Switch the display format between the road map (Road) and aerial photo (Aerial).

Overlaying the mouse cursor on an icon will display the detailed information on the instrument.

The position where the instrument conducted communication last on the selected day is indicated as
an icon.
Immediately after login, the information on the day before the login date is displayed.

3.2 D i s p l a y L i s ts
Display the list of information on the instrument.
Clicking an item sorts data using the item as a sort key.

3.3 Filter
Display the instrument selected based on the specified condition on the Dashboard.
It is possible to combine multiple conditions.

Search condition
The model and serial number of the instrument
Mode settings of the instrument

Set the conditions and press [OK].


Pressing [Clear] deletes all the set conditions.

4. MANAGEMENT OF INSTRUMENT
The <Instrument Info> screen displays the list for the registered instruments (products). You can get the
information of an instrument to confirm its conditions or change its instrument setting.

4.1 R e g i s t e r A d d i t i o n a l I n s t r u m e n ts
If you are already a registered user, you can put in the information of additional instruments.

1. Login to TSshield

Select Instrument Info from Administration.

3. Start registration
Press [New registration] to display the window shown below.

4. Enter registration information
Enter the information of the instrument you have purchased.
The model, serial number (S/N) and ID code are displayed when the instrument is turned on.

5. Send registration information


When you have finished entering the information, press [OK].
The unlock code is displayed on the screen, and an email containing the unlock code is sent to you.

6. Certify license
C See Step 6 in "2.1 New Registration"

4.2 Display Instrument Information

Log in to TSshield.
A list of registered instruments is displayed at the left side of the screen.

You can select any of the registered instruments to display its information.

Tick the checkbox for the instrument on which you wish to obtain information and press [Get info].
The instrument information is displayed as a list.

Pressing [Select All] ticks checkmarks for all the registered instruments. Pressing [Select None]
clears all the checkmarks.

Select any instrument from the Instrument Info List to display its detailed information.

4.3 C o n f i r m S o ft w a r e Ve r s i o n
The software version of the instrument selected in the Instrument Info List can be confirmed.

XConfirmation of version

Press [Current] to display the installed version and the latest version available for each software.

Press [History] to display the history of the version for each software installed in the instrument.

4.4 Confirm Instrument Settings


Instrument settings for the instrument selected in the Instrument Info List can be confirmed.

4.5 Display Settings for Registered Instrument List
You can designate the instruments to be displayed in the Registered Instrument List.
Search for an instrument meeting the conditions and add the instrument to the List. Also, you can
delete an instrument which is registered in the List.

1. Search instrument
Press [Instrument Selector] to display <Search Instrument> screen.

Enter search criteria in Search Parameters, and press [Search] to display a search result.

2. Add information to the Instrument Info List
Select an instrument to be added to the list from the search result and press [-->].
Pressing [Select All] selects all the instruments displayed in the search result. Pressing [Select
None] clears all the selections.

3. Delete information from the Instrument Info List


Select an instrument to be deleted from the list in Registered Instruments and press [<--].
Pressing [Select All] selects all the instruments displayed in the search result. Pressing [Select
None] clears all the selections.
Pressing [Delete All] deletes all the registered instruments from the list.

4. Confirm selection
Pressing [OK] on <Search Instrument> screen reflects the setting to the Registered Instrument List.

Pressing [Save as Default] specifies that the currently displayed instrument to be displayed immedi-
ately after login.
Press [Restore Default] to regain initial settings.

4.5.1 Searching instrument

Pressing [Search] without setting any parameters displays all the instruments registered by users in
Search results.

XSearch by limiting range of serial number

(1) Check S/N.


(2) Select Assign number to set the range of serial numbers.
Enter the starting number in the left field and the ending number in the right field.
(3) Press [Search] to display instruments with matching serial numbers in Search results.

XSearch by characters contained in serial number

(1) Check S/N.


(2) Select Search match and enter a search word in the field.
(3) Set the search criteria.
Forward match: Instrument with the serial number starting with the search word
Backward match: Instrument with the serial number ending with the search word
Partial match: Instrument with the serial number containing the search word
(4) Pushing [Search] displays instruments with matching serial numbers in Search results.

5 . S O FT W A R E U PD A T E
TSshield automatically connects to the network to check if any software in the total station needs updat-
ing and, when necessary, downloads programs to update the software.
When a new software is registered to the network, a message will be displayed when the total station is
turned on.

In order to update the software, you need to have Wireless LAN (WLAN) Internet access connected
by home broadband and have your total station set for Wireless LAN.
Forward port number 21 and number 7000, and set FTP to passive mode in advance.

manufacturer.
In case of restricting some access points on the network using filter etc., contact your local dealer.
Update may take 10 to 60 min depending on the number of files to update, reception condition and
Wireless LAN connection condition.
You can install the firmware of the instrument offline by downloading its installer from the web site.

5.1 N o t i c e a n d S e t t i n g o f U pd a t e I n f o r m a t i o n
When the total station is turned on, it checks if there is any software update information. When there is,
the following screen is displayed. Press [OK] to perform normal update.

6. Input a password

Move the cursor to each item and press [ENT] to display
the input screen. Enter setting contents and press
[ENT].
Some items may not be displayed depending on the
contents of settings.
For the contents of settings, refer to the instruction man-
ual of your Wireless LAN terminal.

7. Finish the settings


Press [OK] to finish Wireless LAN settings and return to
<TSshield>.

5.3 P e r f o r m U pd a t e

Make sure to use the provided battery and there is enough battery left before performing update.
The update should be done where wireless LAN connection is in good condition.
Do not remove the battery during the update. Do not also disconnect the wireless LAN. Installed pro-
gram will be damaged, and the total station might not operate collect. Disconnected wireless LAN
might need some time for reconnection.
Instrument Info on the TSshied web page is renewed after 24 hours.

XProcedure

1. Enter the TSshield menu


Select <TSshield> in the settings mode.

2. Select <Update>

It is possible to update the firmware offline by connecting a USB memory storing the firmware installer
to the total station. The installer can be downloaded from the TSshield web site.

When updating the firmware, attach a fully charged battery to the total station or use the exter-
nal power source adapter (special accessory).
When updating, use a blank USB memory.
Notice of update information, that is displayed turn on the total station, does not displayed the
day after the software update. Instrument Info of the TSshied is also renewed on the day after
the software update.

5.4.1 Download the update file

1. Download the update file


Download the update file (*.sbc) from the TSshield web site.

(1) Select the instrument to update in the Instrument Information.


Press [Download] in the Software Version.

(2) Click the link for the file to download in the window below.
Follow the instructions on the screen to download the file.

2. Save the update file to a USB memory


Save the downloaded update file in the root folder of a USB
memory.

5.4.2 Perform update (DCPU/EDM)

1. Boot up the total station in update mode


Press the following keys depending on the firmware to
update.
DCPU: Press the power switch pressing {F1} and {ENT}.
EDM: Press the power switch pressing {F3} and {ENT}.

(1) Confirm in the right screen that update is executed via

6. SECURITY FUNCTION
TSshield has security functions: lock mode and chasing mode.
In lock mode, it is possible to lock the instrument which is mislaid or lost by remote control on its
web site. It prevents the instrument to be used without the owner's permission.
In chasing mode, location information of the instrument on the Dashboard screen is renewed more
frequently and it helps the instrument to be found.

6.1 Set the Instrument to Lock Mode

1. Read in the instrument information


When you log in TSshield web site, the list of registered instruments is displayed.

Check the box of the instrument you want to lock in "Instrument Info", then press [Get info] to read in
the instrument information.

2. Display the detailed instrument information


Highlight the instrument to display it's detailed information.

3. Change the settings
Press [Set] in "Instruments Settings" in the screen of step 1 to display <Instruments Settings>.
Select "Lock" in "Settings" and select an item in "Reason". Press [OK] to complete the instrument
setting.

The following is a list of the error messages displayed by the instrument and the meaning of each mes-

A problem has occurred with TSshield and operation stops.
Power the instrument OFF then ON to reboot. The instrument can be operated temporarily with TSshield dis-

The instrument and TSshield server have not been connected for a long periods of time.
TSshield uses the same frequency band with that of cellular phones.
Set up the instrument where connection for cellular phones is in good condition, then leave it for 10 -15 min-
utes with power ON. Measurement can be performed even during connection.
If this error message appears frequently, contact your local dealer.
