TOURISM ENTERPRENUERSHIP

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Entrepreneurship and innovation are important drivers for success in any


industry. This is particularly so in the dynamic and rapidly evolving
hospitality and tourism industries worldwide. This module deals with the key
issues of entrepreneurship, product development, innovation and creativity
in the Tourism and Hospitality sectors. It challenges students to think outside
the box in terms of how to develop new business/product ideas in Tourism
sector.

COURSE COMPETENCES

Students must be competent to

Have greater awareness of entrepreneurship and innovation amongst


students and to develop entrepreneurial competencies.
Understanding the role of entrepreneurship in new and existing
organizations.
Discusses the theory and principles of entrepreneurship and
Innovation.
Prepare of an actual opportunity assessment and/or business
proposal.
Develop a new service/product idea.
Investigate entrepreneurship opportunities in Tourism.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

At the end of this course the Students should be able to


Acquiring the entrepreneurial and innovation skills necessary to carry
out their own business

Analyzing principles and requirements for entrepreneurship and


innovation process

Developing the project proposal to carry out tourism related business.

Ability to create a fascinate business based on the strong


entrepreneurial skills

Assessing the prevailing and potentials opportunities available in


tourism entrepreneurial and innovation.

A combination of teaching/learning methodologies will be employed including

ASSESSMENT CRITERIA
Assessment of this course will include Coursework 40% and End of Semester
Examinations 60%. The grading criteria will be as follows:

Presentation 10%
Assignment 10%
Examination 60%
